I'm 15 and my wisdom teeth are grown in now ;-; The dentist says it's time to remove them VERY soon.
I'm deadly afraid of being put to sleep while people work on me. I've never had it done before so the concept frightens me.
I know it's like taking a nap and waking up and feeling soar, but I still don't like the idea of all that will go on when I'm sleeping.
Does anyone have ideas or suggestions to help me get over this fear?

I've had teeth removed before when I was younger because of adult teeth growing and milk teeth refusing to come out.
What I did was not think about it, just think of it as going for a check up with a nap involved. Thinking of it that way makes it seem alot better.

I felt the same and I was 26 when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I told my mom, and she looked at me like I was nuts, lol.
I don't know, I just looked at it as something that had to get done.
It's not really like sleeping though because there's no 'in between' time. You fade out and then you're getting alert again. You don't even feel like you've been asleep.

I wouldn't worry yourself too much, you usually don't have to change into hospital gowns or anything and a nurse will be present. Some dentists do it while you are awake and just numbed to the gills. I know where you're coming from though, I'm having surgery on the 13th, it's going to be done Laparoscopically and it's a bit more invasive. I am a bit weirded out by all the things they are going to do to me when I am out (air tub down throat and catheter).
There is little to no risk when getting wisdom teeth out and not having them out is far worse. My mom's weren't taken out and when they fully breached, they cracked all her front teeth, now she had dentures.

I've had two dental surgeries(bone graft and an implant) and I was kinda freaked out about it as well. I'm 15 too, and it is creepy thinking about what they're going to do to you while you're asleep. Try to remember that these people know what they're doing and they have a lot of practice, I'm a dental disaster and my dentist has come through for me every time :).
I don't know if they're going to do it differently for you, but in my experience they start by giving you laughing gas. (and let me state this; LAUGHING GAS IS AWESOME.) It makes everything feel like a dream so you're not afraid, then comes the anesthetic and you're out for the count. You can probably do it without the anesthetic, so ask whoever's doing it about that if it's the sleeping part that you're really worried about. Personally I'm more freaked out about the concept of being conscious of everything that they're doing rather then them poking around my mouth when I'm asleep.
It's really a minor, and very common procedure. Just trust your dentist or oral surgeon 'cause they've done it hundreds of times before and they're not going to do anything scary to you while you're out. :)

I've had two dental surgeries of my own. One removed 6 of my teeth ><;; Four babies and two adult underneath. The other was for my wisdom. The worst part for me was getting the shot. I hate needles. The surgery wasn't bad at all. And I got so much milkshake after that XD

I had my wisdom teeth out at 15. I was put under laughing gas, and it was fine. Bring your mp3 player to listen to as you fall asleep, it really helps. The only thing with me is that they gave me too much gas and I was loopy for the rest of the day.

Think about it this way: at least the dentist is putting you to sleep. That would hurt REALLY bad if they just yanked them out. I'd rather be put to sleep, you know? (Yeah, I'm more afraid of NOT being put to sleep!) Anywho, good luck with your teeth and all!
EDIT: I agree with Readera. I listened to my mom's iPod when I got my braces put on. helped to pass the time....

I'm deathly afraid of surgery too. But getting your wisdom teeth out isn't so bad.
I had to get all 4 of mine removed and it actually didn't take long.
The procedure went well and the only pain I felt was AFTER the surgery.
And if you think about it, they're only operating on the gums of your mouth. It's not like they're cutting your stomach open. It's a very minute procedure.
You'll be fine as long as you remain calm.
It'll be done before you know it.

well to be completely honest.. Getting put to sleep feels really good. They used to do it to me all the time as a child. You wake up dazed and confused. It's different. You shouldn't be afraid. Plus they'll give you pain killers for the soreness. Just trust me it won't be bad :] You'll be able to handle it no problem. I wish you the best of luck.
