Agreed.
In its strictest sense, Lolita fashion is supposed to be very modest; knee-length skirts, high neck-lines, covered shoulders... even a Mormon could wear it.

I think some people here are confusing Lolita with Babydoll Fetish wear.

Well, I sent a link previously in this thread that there is a type of Lolita that is always mistaken as "slutty", which is the "EroLoli" or the "Erotic Lolita" which is actually just a SLIGHTLY less conservative type because the top is almost showing the chest area and the bottom bares more legs. It's the "fetish" type of Lolita, but it's not advisable to be practiced often.

Yeah, but (as the link also mentioned) EroLoli is really more supposed to be worn for going to clubs and places like that.
And let's face it- if you're at a club night, an EroLoli outfit is definitely not going to be the "sluttiest" one there! Gothic clubnights in particular tend to attract some extremely sexual/fetish outfits.

I wonder if anyone could post suggestions of a male version of lolita that could pass as everyday wear.

@ Alex; Kodana, Boystyle, Oujistyle = Male Lolita. Generally I think they're called Dandies, not Lolitas. :3

tsu_ on the egl community at livejournal has this post which has some pretty good and some casual examples of Kodana, you can do a little reading and click on the links to see. :3

I'm not sure what the images are dated but it seems like earlier days of Lolita. Snap three is a classic Lolita and snaps one and two have both a guy and a girl. For some reason they're wearing pretty light petticoats...

I enjoy lolita fashion on other people. I like it though.
I'm just too lazy and too poor to really get into lolita fashion. XD

@ Kid: TY. I might get a few outfits tailored for me and Elsa. Maybe we can jumpstart the Casual Victorian fashion trend in the Philippines.

@Alex: Dude. Quiapo is like, a thousand-people-place on a regular basis. Fine. We'll be freaks and walk around in Victorian goth clothing (preferably mourning garb) under the scorching sun. XD

I'll design a white spider based Kodona outfit and get it taylored.

I have never bought or worn Lolita-style clothing, although I'm tempted by a skirt/legwarmer set I saw on ebay the other day.

Some of the 'grungier' styles are nice, in my opinion, but some of the others seem a little too... pedophilic? The fetishism of doll/child-like women is a little disturbing to me.

I am personally in love with the lolita fashion.
I can't afford it at the moment but I would love to own/ dress in all of the lolita fashions.

I like the lolita fashion. I much prefer the elegant styles to the gothic or "Alice in Wonderland" types. It coincides with my love of corsetry, stockings, and ruffles/lace.

And I always end up admiring some of the hairstyles.

I love the different types of lolita styles. I own one dress that I got as a birthday gift but never wore it because I'm too shy.. plus it wasn't the dress I wanted XD and I wish I could afford the expensive brands

I think the fashion and life style is very pretty. I love the clothes, and I would so dress that way once a week like in this manga I read if I lived in japan. but unfortunately no one here dresses like that where I live, unless they do it everyday.

But at the same time.. the other part of lolita..the loli part I don't appreciate as much. This is because I myself look very young, and well I've dated a pervert her only liked me for the fact that I looked like I was 15 or younger or whatever... gross..

I love the style, personally... but all I really have to say on the subject is this:

Mana.

If you don't know who that is, look him up. Yes, him.

Mana is okay, but he certainly does not define lolita. I recommend this site, here

To answer the topic question, I do like certain styles. My favorite is the wa style. I don't have any clothing yet. Hopefully, in the future. :3

He's only focused on ONE style on lolita too.

And that be the style he invented.

Though it's really just a variation of the classic and goth style lolita. xD

Elegant Gothic Lolita/Aristocrat.

...But for some reason, that EGL label has become a stand alone variety in itself already and it even being used as a sum and total description of what lolita is.

Define it? Maybe not. But do it incredibly well? In my opinion, he pulls it off better than anyone else I've ever seen.

Which is actually kinda sad, but hey...

His style is more of an offshoot of lolita.
Quote:
The term 'Gothic Lolita' is often confused with the term 'Elegant Gothic Lolita,' which was coined by the Japanese musician Mana to describe the clothes of his brand Moi-Meme-Moitie.
Mana has made his own style/version based on his personal taste.

Heh. Mana isn't the only good model for Lolita fashion out there.

Srsly. I've seen other non celebrities do it well too.

There are MANY styles. It's like an umbrella term for whatever possible combination and feel that embodies the ideal of youthfulness of a young lady. : /

And because of that loose meaning about it, many people are taking it to possible interpretations like goth, punk, sweet and even wa loli.

They're all varied interpretations. But the ones we call styles are the ones that are mostly recognized and followed by many.

...Though not all interpretations are met with love and acceptance. xD;

There are still some people who think if they were cheap lacy dresses or something short skirted with cute whatevers, it's loli. XD;

When in fact, it's rather passable for something... from a sexy costume website catalog.

My only problem with Lolita fashion is that it gets miscontrued so much to the point that when you see it's final product you will go 'WTF that's not loli' and get called names for being too strict about things.

But seriously.

You're in black and in boots.

Then your socks are STRIPES.

And they happen to be...fuchsia or something like that.

You expect me to sit out from having to tell you that something's wrong? D;

^&*&*&*%^&%[email protected]$!#!*^&(*(@!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dress is lovely. So classic. What company?

I'm too cheap to order things. And since I'm a bit of a designer myself, I'm more likely to design for myself and then decorate them. xD

Or adapt from designs and twist them to my liking. ;3

Though I need a job first. SRSLY. D:
