Hi everyone! Ah...I'm new, obviously. I found my way here by following the shiny blinking banner on a webcomic, and it looks like a fairly cool site.

About me? Well, I'm an anime nut, I cosplay on a regular basis at conventions, and know a medium amount about sci-fi fantasty stuff. I've roleplayed a good bit before, though usually over e-mail. I'm in college right now working towards an education major and learning Japanese, hoping to one day expose High School students to the wonders of learning another language.

At this particular moment I'm procrastinating studying for finals though, so I suppose my studious serious nature towards school is easily debated. Summer is so close procrastinating is easy and tempting....it has the sweetness of eating ice cream on a blazing hot day, at least until it's midnight and you're buzzed on caffeine and desperately reading.

So yeah. Hello, good afternoon, etc. :)

I came here through a website banner too, despite the fact that I signed up at Momocon and recieved a reminder email...

And finals are totally a drag, fortunately mine shouldn't be too bad this semester. I won't get to goof off much this summer though since I plan to take a couple more classes >_<

And your topic title reminds me of a book I almost bought, by John Ringo I think and another author whom I forget.

You were at Momocon! So was I, coincidentally. That area is where I con around, Momocon, MTAC, AWA, etc. Sadly there's not that many absolutely huge events in the Southeast, we need more geeky enthusiasts....

Ah, the joys of summer classes. Good luck with them, don't lose all your vacation freedom :).

I don't really know where I pulled it from, it's one of those well known generic fantasy phrases that's origin is blurred and lost in the span of books and time. It would be cool if they still made maps that had "Here There be Dragons" labeled on them though, perhaps one day when space maps are needed because of interstellar travel it will actually apply.

Umm....actually, I got referred here from Misfile as well. I don't know what other webcomics have advertisements for Menewsha, but that's the only one I've seen.

Yeah, I was reading Misfile.

You go to AWA too? I've gone with my friends for the last five years :)
Haven't heard of MTAC, but you should look into JAMPcon in Chattanooga, TN. I went to it's premiere last year and I wanna go again.

I've been going to AWA since 2004, if you've cosplayed I'm sure I've seen you at least once or twice...probably asked for your picture too.
MTAC is the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention, it's in Nashville. It's still fairly small right now, which is a shame. But it's trying to grow, so I give it credit. And I will definitely look into JAMPcon. One can never have too much anime fun.

I haven't cosplayed yet, but I really want to, and I'm going to try to cosplay as Yuko from xxxHOLiC for JAMPcon and AWA. I'm even planning on dyeing and straightening my hair instead of wearing a wig :3

Honestly, after going to AWA X-XIV, Kunicon, JAMPcon, and two years ('07 and '09) of Momocon, I'm worried I'll lose interest if I don't do something new! That's why I want to cosplay, so I can interact with people more instead of just walking around and basically people watching between visits to the dealer rooms...

Ah! You should do it! It's so hard to find a good Yuuko there. Have you picked a particular dress of hers? She has so many....

And that makes sense, people are more willing to be friendly and talk to you if you're dressed up. You also get stalked and molested more, but...that's a side effect that can be taken care of by several friends who happen to be threatening in nature. I think I'm going as Sailor Mars or Jupiter and Sei from Maria-sama ga Miteru.

I have the advantage of being rather intimidating in stature, though I don't generally consider it a good thing -_-; but I do also hang out with several guys when I'm there, and the one I stick around most is a little shorter than me but pretty well built- and he's got this no-nonsense afro thing going... :P

I always try to get pics with different Sailor Scouts at conventions, but I didn't last AWA or at Momocon. Just losing the enthusiasm.

Oh, I haven't picked a dress yet, but I've been going through the books (I've got through volume 11) and one of my friends is going to help me out. It was her idea for me to cosplay as Yuko because of my height and because my hair's so long.

Have you ever gone to Dragoncon? Maybe going to something more scifi/fantasty and less anime would help you perk back up and be very "Yatta~~" about it again. Plus it's bigger then AWA, though you have to be able to put up with a whole whole whole lotta Star Wars.
Hehehe, no-nonsense afros...those are always fun. Warning when you get to the end of 13...you'll hate that 14 isn't out yet, the cliff hanger and the waiting is so horrible, and it doesn't come out until November.
I'm just excited because Renaissance festival season is finally coming again, spring is in the air and the jousting is soon to be as well.

I haven't been to DragonCon, but I'd like to go. It really depends on if at least one of my friends can manage the time and money to go. I do like Star Wars, though... just not sure if I can put up with four days around people who live and breath it...

I'd really like to go to Renaissance, too. Never have before.

Welcome to Menewsha Asake!!

First. omg I haven't read vol 13 of xxxHolic yet and now that I know it's a cliffhanger and that I will have to wait until November... *eyes book* Waah.. maybe I won't read it yet then.

I would love a map that labeled "here be dragons" because then I would go there! And probably get eaten

What have to cosplayed in the past? I'm kind-of a cosplayer myself and con season is rapidly approaching for me.. so it's back to a whirl of sewing for me!

Have fun on Menewsha and feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Hey Fiarra! Lol, I almost wish I hadn't read volume 13 yet except that so much is revealed....November is too far away though. I'm tempted to try and find the Japanese version and translate it myself with my horrible amateur language skills.

You wouldn't get eaten unless they had ketchup handy, in which case you would be well fried and served in strips to young elementary school dragonets.

Ah...I've cosplayed Sango (huge boomerang included, which was some serious fun to make. So many angle and size adjustments as I'm shorter then her..), Itachi, Edward Elric (I know, one of millions), Luffy, and V from V for Vendetta. Right now I'm something of an apprentice to a prop maker so hopefully my repertoire will expand shortly.

Hello there Asake

You're already fitting in pretty well! Your topic title reminded me of another newbie here because of her love for dragons though I can exactly relate your title to an actual liking for dragons or its a reference to something else? Not sure ^^'' But you seem like a serious con goer! Lots of people joined the site after Menewsha promoted itself during Momocon so that con must have been really successful. I have never really been to a con outside my own country, Malaysia but the cons in the states look like a lot of fun with loads of people attending! O.O Taking pictures with people cosplaying must be fun! Well, I like doing that when attending cons. Its amazing to see how some people put so much effort into a costume that you just have to stare and marvel at it :P

Anyways, I hope that you are already liking it here, seems like people are posting lots in your thread and you are really quick to reply to them. Active posting is never a bad thing here in Menewsha unless its spammy ^^'' Well, I do hope that you enjoy yourself more here and I wish you lots of luck with making your avatar look spiffy with the cool items we have in the shops here! Welcome to the community and have fun here! See you around the boards!

Ah, thank you! Umm....it's both. I do have a fascination with dragons, up to and including having tattoos of them. They have such a vivid and intriguing history of stories and roles within human civilization.
Malaysia? Whoa, cool. Amazing how one person I randomly meet online goes to events in the same region of the country as me, and then another is halfway across the globe. Whaa~~ the wonders of the internet. And I will avoid the whole 'mystery meat' thing, spam has just never been appealing to me as far as food goes. If you're going to eat something at least be sure that it's from something organic and not perhaps a variety of plastics and metals.

But if you eat enough food-like consumables with high plastic and metal content, you can become a cyborg!

...in theory, anyway...

...and I can't back that up.

...Being a cyborg would rock! Having shiny metal skin and lasers on your shoulders and be able to see through walls with super mystical mechanical vision. Yes, eating spam could definitely do that to a person. If you try this and works on you be sure and tell me, you'll soon find a cult following your spamish ways.

*woe* I know I'm going to read it sometime in th enext few weeks and then I will just sit and be sad.

T_T I don't want to be served with ketchup and a side of fries!

Ah! I have a friend who cosplayed Sango. She is also quite short so she had fun figuring out the boomerang. And no shame in being one among many Edwards? (lol that sounds so odd!). I actually have the fabric and pattern to make a modified version of his jacket to wear around normally.. because I am stupid like that. And that prop maker's apprentice thing... sounds so cool. Props are definitely my weak-point.

Hello, and welcome to Menewsha. I am new too, but whats wrong with saying welcome? ^-^
Anyways Menewsha is a great site and fun. They have great bases of avatars and a plethora of clothes; Which are acctually very pretty and fun to mix and match, unlike Gaia.
Anywho, if you need another friend just PM me. I probably can't answer many of your questions because I am also new, but I can probably answer a few.
