Ana walked through the park slowly, trying to enjoy the nice day. She hadn't seen Marcus all day, but that didn't mean he wasn't watching her from the shadows. She did her best to ignore that thought and kept walking aimlessly along the paths. She was surprised to see Bain a little ways off. She thought he would still be sleeping, since it was obvious before that he wasn't getting enough sleep.

taking in his surrounding he smiled softly, he always enjoyed coming to the park and being out around nature though he'd never tell anyone that. he closed his eyes and took a calming breath when he opened his he noticed a familiar figure a little ways off. his eye's connected with hers and he was a little surprised that she was out in the park at this time, perhaps that meant she was ok with company again?

he made his way over toward her a friendly hey escaping his lips once he was close enough. his brooding thoughts seemed to melt now that he was around her again making him smile.

"so you feeling better?" it made her sound like she had been sick the night before but it was the first thing that came to mind so he went with it, after all she had seemed a little off last night.

Ana smiled when she saw him, making sure not to flash fang.

"I'm feeling much better, thank you," she said. "I think the time alone last night was just what I needed." She didn't add that the fresh, undiluted blood helped. No need to make him uncomfortable around her. "How was your evening after we parted ways?" Meaning she was asking if he ran into any trouble after she left on her hunt.

"it was... interesting" he felt a little uncomfortable telling her of the strange people that had approached him the night before, well it was more pride then anything. he was a male and telling a female, even if she was much stronger then him, that he had felt uncomfortable or a little leery of strangers was not something that seemed like a good idea to him.

he shoved his hands in his pockets as a nervous gesture and fingered the box that held the necklace. wanting to change the subject he quickly jumped into another conversation with her. "so how were classes today?"

"I didn't go to classes today, actually," Ana replied. She could tell something made him uneasy, but it didn't seem too important, so she didn't push the subject. "I overslept, and there was no use in trying to go to class when I was running so late." She still wasn't sure how she had overslept, but it was probably due to how uneasy she had been the day before. Once she was in her apartment, the place she saw as 'safe', the fatigue and anxiety got the better of her and made her sleep longer. "What about you? Were your classes alright?"

he gave her a surprised look. she of all people, the one that doesn’t really sleep, slept it? well that was unexpected. he almost stumbled over his words until he caught them before the came tumbling out of his mouth. clearing his through slightly and relaxing his body language he looked at her with one eyebrow raised.

"I didn’t go to classes today i decided to get some sleep.... you slept in?" he couldn’t help the surprise that filled his voice.

"I did," Ana comfirmed. "I'm not exactly sure why... I can only surmise that it is somehow Marcus's fault. I dined well last night, and I still slept late." Perhaps she needed to increase the amount of blood she took every night? It made sense... She was getting older, after all, though she was nowhere near turning four hundred yet. Then again, every vampire was different... "Then again, perhaps it is because of my age. Perhaps I may need to take more during my meals."

"ah..." was the only intelligible thing he could come up with. did she realize that she had said that out loud? what was he supposed to say to that! he was amazed that he was not at all disturbed by it more or less he was just surprised that she had said it so plainly, perhaps she was getting more comfortable with him? with that he smiled easily at her. it seemed he to was loosing whatever fear he had felt for her. now it was just a strong fondness that left him feeling more alive then he had in a while.

"come" he finally said holding out his hand to her. "lets go find some shade to sit under" he said still smiling.

Ana shrugged when he didn't reply.

"It's possible," she said. "More likely it was because I was so stressed out yesterday, but still. There are any number of possibilities." She smiled back at him and took his hand. "Sitting in the shade sounds wonderful," she said. He didn't seem unnerved by her anymore, which made her glad. She didn't like seeing him so afraid of her.

"well lets just hope that it was because you were stressed" he said as he lead her down to a large oak tree with plenty of shade to spare. taking a seat he looked at her and wondered if he should ask about that story she had eluded to. what made him hesitate was that he didn’t want to upset her... but she had asked him to ask her later...

"so" he finally said "you said something about a story last night... one that you wanted me to ask about later?"

"Ah, yes," Ana said as she sat down. "Well, keep in mind this is mostly secondhand... I don't remember it." She went quiet for a moment, gathering her thoughts. "It was about a hundred and fifty years ago. I had only recently become a daywalker, so I wasn't sure where my limits lay, and Marcus had long since set me out on my own, claiming that if I was stubborn enough to want my freedom, then I would have it without any further help from him.

"I don't remember what had prompted me to stop feeding for a while... Perhaps a passing fancy with a human boy or something like that, I'm not sure. I was still active mostly at night, having yet to have broken the habit of avoiding the sun. Everything gets a little fuzzy there... The next thing I remember, I was being dragged down from a pile of bloody bodies by Jacob, and being told to lie low for a while. Apparently, the bloodlust had hit me, and I just snapped. Because I was the oldest of my sire's fledglings, and I had been taking care of them, I had been able to avoid them long enough to slaughter most of the people on the block. Apparently, while I was lost in the bloodlust, my hypnosis ability manifested. Then the Hunters had been set on my trail. When the others told me what had happened, I was horrified and still somehow fascinated." She paused for a moment to let him absorb what she'd said. "It hasn't happened to me since, and the others of Marcus's brood have been careful not to let it happen to them."

He just stared at her. That was not what he had been expecting to here. It was strange really that she had wanted him to know that particular even in her past. Then again he had inquired about such a thing last night…

He took a few moments for himself to fully think about what she had told him. Was she trying to warn him? Or perhaps she just wanted him to know some of her past. Whatever the reason was he made certain to choose his next words carefully.

“so you haven’t felt the need to not feed since” he said slowly, it seemed weird that a vampire would stop feeding on blood but he supposed that if she stopped one time she could do it again. He didn’t wait for an answer already assuming that she hadn’t planed to stop feeding anytime soon.

“is that when you moved here?” there were so many things he wanted to comment on and to ask but he settled for the safest. The last thing he wanted to do was drag along more bad memories, as least he assumed it was a bad memory for her.

"I've made sure to keep myself fed ever since, yes," Ana replied. "That's why I feed every night, rather than every few days like others of my kind." Rolling up her sleeve gently, she checked on the healing burn on her arm absently. "I move to a new place every few years, actually. People tend to notice that I don't age, especially since I look so young. I arrived here last year, so I can stay for another year or two before I have to think about leaving again."

he wasn’t sure why but the thought of her leaving left an emptiness in him that he could not explain. wanting to change the subject he reached inside is pocket to pull out the box that was hidden there. the emptiness he felt was replaced with nervousness. he wasn’t sure what exactly she liked when it came to this sort of thing so really he was just throwing himself out there. but the necklace had called to him and when he had picked it up he knew that he was meant to give it to her.

"here" he said holding out the box to her. "I found this while browsing the small shops in town to day and it made me thing of you

Ana took the box curiously. It had been a long time since someone had given her a gift, outside of the occasional Christmas gift. Opening the little box, she gasped quietly and took the necklace out gently, not wanting to damage it. It was even made of gold instead of silver, so it wouldn't burn her.

"Bain, it's beautiful," she said. "Are you sure I can have it?"

"absolutely" he said without a thought. he had meant what he said. when he saw it, it had reminded him of her so he felt it only fitting to give it to her. besides it made him feel good to give her such an item. he smiled at her and he couldn’t remember a time when he had smiled so much.

Carefully, Ana took the necklace and put it on. The chain was cool against her skin, though it quickly warmed up the little bit it needed to to match her skin temperature. The pendant rested perfectly against her chest, the gold shining softly and the stone sparkling.

"Thank you," she said softly. She would have blushed, if she could. "It's beautiful. It's been such a long time since anyone has given me a gift..." She smiled at him and hugged him gently before letting him go.

it looked good on her he decided. his anxiety of her not likening it ebbed away as happiness took its place soon followed by surprise. he hadn’t expected the hug but it was defiantly welcomed. he hugged her back finding that he like physical contact with her even if her body temperature was colder.

"I'm glad that you like it." he said once she moved away from him. then he wondered if she would enjoy the shop that he had bought it from. but perhaps he would save that for another day for now he was just content to sit in companionable silence with her.

that is until an uneasy feeling over came him. he wasn’t sure why but he felt like he was being watched. quickly he scanned his surroundings but he didn’t see anyone. that’s when he realized that they were the only two in the area. when had the rest of the people left?

Ana glanced around as well, having realized that everyone else had left. That usually didn't happen when only one or two of her kind were around. The human survival instinct usually only kicked in when there were more than a few of her kind within a small area.

"Interesting..." she murmured. She couldn't see or smell anyone, but that didn't mean they weren't there.

Bain glanced at her from the corner of his eye before looking back around at the disserted park. "yea..." was his response "i wonder where everyone skipped off to?" and more importantly how long had they been gone? why hadn’t he noticed the change in the atmosphere sooner? the only thing that made sense was that he had been so focused on Ana he hadn’t even noticed the change. he stayed seated not sure if he should bring attention to himself by standing up. that and he didn’t know what Ana wanted to do. perhaps she knew what was going on?

"I don't think anyone is around here," Ana said, referring to others of her kind. "Though it's possible I'm wrong. They won't touch you, since it's clear that you belong to me, but I don't know what anyone would want around here. It's a small enough place that a lot of people vanishing or coming down with amnesia will be noticed, and it's not like this town has an underground community like the bigger cities..." She stood up to get a better look around. She still didn't see anyone, but she didn't feel like taking the chance. "Perhaps we could return to campus for the evening. It may not be entirely safe out on the streets tonight." She smiled a bit. "Dinner is on me, if you like, as an apology for ending your day out early."

He wasn’t sure why but he felt pleasure and irritation all wrapped up into one when she had said he belonged to her. Pleasure because it sounded nice coming from her lips and irritation because as the male he should be saying that of her. Maybe later down the line he would make that clear... for now though he had more important things to occupy his mind.

"Good" he said standing up. "I feel like someone’s watching me" he said a little bit lowly "I had assumed it was another vampire but if you don’t sense anything... maybe it’s just in my head" he shrugged off the feeling and focused fully on her. "No need to apologies it wasn’t you who caused everyone to vanish" he put a little joke in his voice before extending his hand out to her. "Besides I’ve already decided that dinner is on me"

"Well, then," Ana said as they started walking, "do you mind if we make a quick stop? I want to pick up a few things for myself, so that I don't have to go out tonight." She glanced around as they walked, and actually relaxed a bit when she saw a few of her kind lingering in the shadows. "You're not crazy," she said. "There are others here, but I don't know who they are. I'm not even sure how old they are, I would have to get closer, but you should be safe enough if you stay close to me." Gently, she took his hand, using it as a subtle signal that Bain was hers.

he was about to respond to her until she spoke again causing him to look around. "you don’t know any of them?" that seemed a little odd hadn’t she said she knew most of the vampires in town? "alright" he said cautiously, so he was being watched why he wasn’t sure, maybe because he was the only human left in the vicinity?

"alright" he said wrapping his fingers around her's "does that mean you'll be staying with me tonight" he joked slightly. he'd feel better if she were near him especially if she didn’t know who these new vampires were. that and being around her always pleased him.

"They may not have been watching you, you know," Ana reminded him. "I'm technically a local, so they might have been keeping an eye on me. Chances are, they're just passing through." Still holding his hand, she walked with him until they came to a nondescript little building wedged between two larger businesses. "Once I get what I need here, we can head back to campus, alright?" she said. "You can crash in my room, if you'd like, since I don't have a roommate to deal with. Veronica may pop in and out, but you can ignore her."
