Leane didn't even notice Matt scurry past her and into the school building, she was too absorbed in her drawing - the one thing that gave her an opportunity to clear her head and manage her thoughts - not to mention it was a great stress reliever.
When the period was finished, Leane had nearly shaded her entire drawing with color. Closing her book, Leane headed inside to her locker to put her things away.
As she grabbed her history things, Leane was met by Jenny and Joanna.
Jenny frowned when she saw Matt at his locker. Turning away from him after giving him a harsh glare, she looked at Leane with a sympathetic frown on her face, "It was totally unfair that Matt didn't get any detention time! He was surely in the wrong as well! Why was it only you were punished? And on the day of the Halloween Ball at that!"
Joanna nodded in a agreement as they walked to class, "Honestly, the least Sommers could have done was to make it so you got off the hook and he got in trouble, he was the one who started it after all."
Leane simply shook her head with a sigh as she headed to her seat in History, letting the girls ramble on as they waited for class to begin. Although Leane didn't agree with what the girls were saying, she didn't want to contradict them for fear they, and Matt, would get the wrong idea.
I mean, she didn't even like the guy, so why did she take full blame and get her Saturday morning taken away? She must be losing her mind.

Matthew overheard a glimpse of Leane's friends' conversation. Of course it was all his fault. That was Leane for you... He thought as he moved to the back seat and listened as the teacher droned on.
Lunch was next and Matt felt a strange twisted feeling in his stomach. Nerves. My God... He thought to himself. I'm losing my mind...

Leane couldn't concentrate as the period slowly progressed, the fear of the drawing the next period swelling inside her.
When the bell finally rang, Joanna and Jenny ran off to get the hat filled with only Matt's name. Leane sighed as she gathered her books, biting her lower lip as she slipped from the classroom and headed to her locker.
When she reached the lunchroom, she saw that Joanna and Jenny had already called the students around and were waiting on her. Sighing, Leane took her place on the chair and drew a name from the hat.
Reading the name, Leane's eyes grew wide as she blurted, "Matthew Sommers?! Is this some kind of sick joke?! Did you guys rig this?!"
Leane looked at Jenny and Joanna, who both shook their heads - both equally stunned due to the hat not being the rigged one, but in fact the real one.
When Jenny grabbed the hat from her locker, she was in such a hurry that she didn't check to see which hat she had grabbed and had actually grabbed the original hat by mistake.

Matthew's eyes shot open at the sound of his name. "Congratulations, Leane." He said slowly, stung by her insult. "You've made my worst nightmare come true. That's what you wanted all along, right?" He asked bitterly. How dare she act insulted to be going with him. He had even been trying to be nice to her lately, out of the kindness of his heart for that matter.
Without another word, Matthew turned on his heel and stormed out of the lunchroom. Both angered and slightly...elated? after having his name drawn.

There were a lot of groans from the jocks who really wanted to go with Leane, as well as a few congratulations as Matt stormed out the door.
Leane shoved the paper back into the hat and stormed out of the cafeteria, giving the hat to Joanna on the way out as Jenny took care of the crowd, most of which were hoping for a redrawing in hopes of Matt not attending the Ball.
Catching up to Matt at the end of the hallway leading away from the cafeteria, Leane took his arm and pulled him to a stop, "If it's really that much of a torture to take me to the Ball, then you don't have to. I won't make you do something you don't want to do.. I'm sure I can find someone to take me.. I mean, Kenny probably would.. he seems sweet enough.. I guess.. It wouldn't be the same, but it'd get you off the hook if you don't want to take me that badly," Leane added with a blush.
Continuing her rambling, Leane's blush only deepened, "I mean, why would you want to take me? I'm obviously the person you hate the most.. there's no way you'd want to take me. So.. I'll.. I'll just draw another name from the hat, don't worry. I understand, I promise I'll see to it," she finished before turning back towards the cafeteria.

"Leane, you are the most fustrating person I've ever met." Matthew sighed, stepping in her path. "If I didn't want to go with you then my name wouldn't have even been in that hat. Its you I'm concerned about." He admitted. "Considering your scene in the cafeteria its obvious you didn't want to draw my name. So I guess there's only one solution." He said simply. "I never thought I'd say this but here it goes. Leane Supton, will you go the Ball with me?"

Taken aback, Leane eyed him, "Are you serious? But I.. I thought you hated Jack and Ben for putting your name into the hat? I thought you hated the whole idea of the competition? I thought you hated me for that matter? I was only shocked in the cafeteria.. I didn't think you'd want to go with me.. I was afraid you'd reject me flat out, I was afraid you wouldn't go. I.. I didn't want to be disappointed.. I.. I was actually hoping I'd pick you out of that hat.. It just surprised me because I had been thinking of you.. and then when it came time for the drawing, there was your name.. I.. I just.. I wasn't expecting it.. It seems that no matter how hard I try, you seem to always end up in my thoughts one way or another," she admitted with a blush.
Mentally chastising herself, Leane blushed even deeper, "I think I've made a fool of myself enough for one day.. I think I'll go now," she hurriedly said before turning and walking in the opposite direction of the cafeteria, not really sure where she was going.

Matthew smiled, a little smug from her confession. "Leane." He said, his eyes playful, as he ran to step in front of her again. "You never answered my question." He teased. "It sounded like a yes but I'd rather hear you say yes flat out." He smiled, his mood calm.

Leane blushed as she stammered, "Y-yes." Biting her lower lip, Leane looked down at her hands as she picked at her nails - a nervous habit she formed when she was younger. "But what do you want to go with me for anyhow? You don't even like me.. Besides, what would your girlfriend think? Won't you be missing a chance to make up with Gina and ask her to the Ball? Surely you'd rather kiss and make up with her than take me to the Ball, I mean.. you do hate me after all.. and you did say it was your worst nightmare coming true.."

"Yeah, I might have said that. But you asked the cafeteria if it was a sick joke that you had drawn my name." Matthew shrugged. "I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings." He apologized. "And I've told you before. Gena isn't my girlfriend." He smiled.

"Correction, I asked Joanna and Jenny that question. They'd been bugging me about you ever since Jack wrote your name on that paper. I... I thought they had planned to make me draw your name.. I was a bit unnerved that I drew your name when I've tried very hard today to put you out of my mind and forget about you.." Leane explained, a blush creeping into her cheeks as she spoke - not to mention the fact that Gena wasn't actually his girlfriend like she thought, a part of her ecstatic at hearing such news.
Putting the thought from her mind, Leane poked Matt's chest with her pointer finger, "And besides, you started this whole mess when you tried to commit suicide behind my car. If you hadn't ticked me off yesterday, we would never have been in such an argument! So really, it's all your fault I said such things."

Matthew laughed despite himself. "Its not my fault you didn't check your mirror before trying to back up. Technically this is your fault." He tesed before looking towards the cafeteria. "Should we go back in there?" He asked. "If your going with me then you're going to have to break the football teams' hearts." He smiled, his mood considerably lightened.

Leane blushed, "It's not like I like any of them anyways.. I'm sure they'll get over it.. But.. where does that leave us? I mean, we go from loathing each other completely, to going to the Ball together? It's quite confusing, don't you think?"
Grinning, Leane poked his chest again as she teased, "That must mean that you like me doesn't it! So much for being an outcast, you fell right in with the rest of the school in falling for me! That's so cute," she teased, "I hope you're not expecting me to fall head over heels in love with you now!"

"Its a good thing you're pretty because that whole full of yourself thing isn't very attractive." He laughed, giving her a wink before heading back into the cafeteria.

Laughing, Leane followed him into the Cafeteria as she teased, "You do realize you just admitted that you think I'm pretty, right? Imagine if someone overheard you, there's no telling what rumors would circulate, you really sure you're prepared to admit you're crazy about me?"

And I'm sure that any rumor that starts with 'He said she was pretty' and ends with 'He loves her' is not going to go very far." He laughed. "Do you really think that you'd be this popular if you weren't?" He asked.

"Ha ha, very funny," she said as she rolled her eyes and poked him in the back, "Did you ever think that I'm popular because people actually like me? You know, not everyone thinks of me as a gorgeous, snobby little rich girl who has her Daddy wrapped around her finger like you do. Some people actually see me for who I am, as hard as it is for you to believe," Leane added as she brushed past him and began heading towards the doors leading outside where Joanna and Jenny were waiting for her.

"Yeah I'm sure the football team sees you for what you really are." Matthew laughed as she walked away. "I'm sure it has nothing to do with getting into your pants or your daddy's money." He rolled his eyes before re-entering the cafeteria and taking his seat beside Ben.
"How'd it go?" Ben asked quickly. "Does someone owe us an apology?" He laughed.
"Yeah, I should apologize." Matthew said reaching for a fry. "But I don't really see it happeneing."
"That's not the way we raised you young man." Ben said, feigning disapproval as he stole the fry out of Matthew's hand and popped it into his mouth.

Leane threw a glare over her shoulder at Matt before she walked out the door and headed over to Jenny and Joanna, who were whispering amongst themselves and giggling.
Leane smirked as she sat on the edge of the table between them, "Did I miss something?"
"Just the whole cafeteria wondering if there's something between you and Sommers. Is there? Anything going on, I mean.." Jenny asked hurriedly with a blush.
Joanna grinned at Leane as she drank her 'meal', "Spill, Lee! When did you start crushing on the outcast? We all know you weren't totally heartbroken when you picked his name."
Leane rolled her eyes as she took the orange from Jenny's tray and peeled it, "I'm not crushing. I'm simply glad I drew his name because he doesn't expect anything, and he won't expect me to run off and have sex or suddenly be in love and date him simply because we're going like the rest of the school would - well, aside from Jack and Ben of course. But they didn't enter so I couldn't exactly go with them."
Joanna laughed, "So it's more a date of convenience than an actual date. Did you even tell him the details of when to meet and where to meet you? Is he walking you down the staircase after Jenny and I walk down with our dates?"
Leane blushed as she stammered, "I.. I-I hadn't really th-thought about that yet.. Besides, how am I supposed to ask him?"
Jenny laughed, "Simple! Walk over, sit down, and talk to him about it!"
Leane rolled her eyes as she put her orange peel onto the tray and began breaking apart her orange, "Yeah, but Jack, Ben, and Gena are there."
"So? Lee, what happened to the girl who does what she wants and doesn't care what others think?"
Leane blushed, "Yeah, you're right I guess.. I just.."
"It's new territory, we get it. Now go on before we have to drag you over there!" Jenny added with a laugh.
Leane rolled her eyes as she hopped down from the table and popped an orange slice into her mouth. Heading through the doors, Leane walked over towards Matt. Sitting down opposite him, Leane ignored the looked from the entire cafeteria as she stated softly, "We need to talk about the Ball."

"Problems in paradise?" Gena mutter bitterly to herself, choosing to ignore Leane.
"What about the Ball?" Matthew asked, confused.
"Did you have a change of heart?" Ben asked, his face filled with fake sadness. "Not in front of the entire school." He pleaded gently. "I don't know if our boy could take it." He said, putting a hand on Matthew's shoulder.
"You're an idiot." Matthew laughed before turning back to Leane. "Ignore him." He advised, though his nerves did pick up a bit as he considered the possiblities. Maybe she did have a change of heart.

Laughing at Ben's theatrics, Leane almost choked on her orange slice. After chewing and swallowing it, Leane waved a hand at Ben as she spoke, "Of course not, you dolt. Besides, if that were the case, I'd simply make an announcement as I redrew a name from the hat. That would have been much more fun for me, you realize," she teased with a wink at Ben and Matt, "But no, I haven't changed my mind. There's just a minor detail we have to discuss. I'm sure you know the Ball is being thrown in the Ball Room of my house. Well, since we're going together, and I'm getting ready at my house with Georjiano and Paolo, there's the minor detail of how I'll be entering and how I'll be meeting you. You see, Jenny and Joanna will descend the staircase just before I do with their dates because we're all getting ready together. My question is, do you wish to get ready with us and descend the staircase into the ball with me, or do you want to meet me there and get ready with your friends? It's alright if you wish to simply meet me there, I'd just like to have an idea of what will go on at the Ball before hand."

"I'd prefer just to meet you at the bottom of the staircase." Matthew said. "I'm not one for grand entrances."
"And yet you're amazing at grand exits. Running out of the cafeteria like that. Golden." Ben said, earning another smack from Matthew.
"I have to go." Gena said abruptly before rushing out of the cafeteria.
"What was that about?" Matthew asked Jack and Ben.
"We'll fill you in later." Jack said as he motioned, not so subtly, to Leane.

Leane rolled her eyes as she noticed Jack's hand gesture and retorted, annoyance dripping from her voice, "If she has a problem with me going with Matt to the ball, she's just going to have to get over it. She had her chance and she lost it the minute she agreed to go with or asked, whichever was the case, someone else, Matt's name was drawn, and he asked me to go with him. So she's just going to just have to deal. Anyway," she added, her tone not as annoyed as she looked over at Matt, "Meeting me at the bottom is fine. The Ball starts at eight, I'll probably attend shortly after. Saturday morning detention has kind of cut into my schedule and will end up making me late for the Ball."

"You should've skipped the office. I would've taken the blame." Matthew said.
"You're so noble." Jack murmured under his breath, not really seeing the point in standing up for Leane. She didn't even know Gena and she wasn't in the greatest place to judge.
"If you're not going to say anything nice you can leave." Matthew warned. Jack and Ben immediately got up from the table to leave, Ben throwing a quick wink over his shoulder to Leane to let her know that he was simply leaving the two to themselves. "Don't feel bad." Matthew added when they'd left. "Jack's kind of protective of Gena."

Putting on a smile, Leane stood from the table, "Lunch is almost over, so I'd better let you go and make up with Gena and Jack. It's not worth it to be upset with them over me and things I've said. Tell them I'm sorry, okay?"
Turning, Leane began making her way out of the cafeteria and back to Joanna and Jenny.
