Hello Everyone!
My name is Sarah, but I decided to go by Sixes&Sevens here. I think it’s a little more fitting to the atmosphere, plus Sarah was sadly already taken. :)
I joined Menewsha literally a few minutes ago and I’m pretty excited to be here. The forums seem really active and everyone seems social and friendly. It’s a nice mix up from the summer months when it seems especially hard to get a hold of people to talk to. So being the smart cookie I am, I turned to the internet! (That’s really not as tragic as it sounds… really! xD)
So for a bit about me, because this after all is a fresh meat / get to know you type of place, I’m a rising sophomore in high school. Always a fun thing to be. xD And when I’m not stressing out over studying I love to read, write and draw. I have a bunch of hobbies, like sports (basketball is my favorite but I’m a pretty good soccer goalie) and learning new things (especially cultures and languages).
I’m kind of shy on and off line, and it normally takes me a while to work up the nerve to post, but I’m going to try and be active here. Mostly because lurking gets really boring after a while and it’s only been a few minutes but I’m dying for some of the adorable avatar clothes.
So internet, that’s me in three hundred words or less (sorry for the rambling, I guess I’m kind of wordy. xD) , would you like to be friends? :)

Welcome to menewsha Sarah!

Your first impression of the site is so happy. :) I love that! We really do have an awesome and friendly community, but I'm sure you'll figure that out on your own. What languages have you learned/do you hope to learn? I personally know Spanish and English. I tried Japanese for a while.. but it didn't stick very well. xD

Have fun here and feel free to ask questions!

LOL. Your intro post is so cute - I love it. :3 (I mean that in the friendly way, of course. XD )

We're pretty welcoming here - the staff posts around as much as users do, when we can. :) Anyone would be happy to help you out and answer questions. :) But if you read the rules and read the stickies at the tops of forums, you should be able to find the answers to many of your questions yourself. :)

Welcome to Menewsha!

Welcome to the site Sixes&Sevens! (would you rather be called Sarah though? xD Just out of curiosity)
I am glad that you think of the site as social and friendly, even if you have only been on the site for a little while. One thing I have personally loved about Menewsha is the community feel I get from it.
I myself have been on here for over two years, and have enjoyed pretty much every bit of it, and I am sure you will too. You will find that you will meet a lot of user's with similar interests as you. I myself love to read.
I really hope you post around often and join in discussion, since that is the main thing we do on here. Plus it is much more interesting than lurking. (and occasionally more amusing.)

And do not worry about rambling. xD I tend to do it often when I do not know exactly how to explain something or just over think it. I can be pretty wordy too.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them and I will try to respond.

Aww thanks you guys, I try to keep a positive attitude because it just makes everything so much more fun. :) It also helps that this site is amazing, and that I’m a little hyper this evening. (Shush, don’t tell. I don’t think it’s very noticeable ;D)
@ Fiarra – I’m entering my third year of Spanish this coming school year, and I’m passively (aka very infrequently xD) learning some French and Sign Language from my friends. :) I applaud your efforts of even attempting Japanese; I don’t think I would be able to remember a whole new alphabet let alone anything else I would try to cram into my head. xD
@ CK – That’s awesome that the staff is active, it says a lot about the quality of the site when those in charge even like to spend time on it. ^-^ Plus, they are likely more in tune with what the users need which is always a good thing. :) I have been learning a lot on my own but if I run into any issues I’m sure there will be helping hands right around the corner.
@ Winterwolfgoddess – Honestly I’m fine with either, whatever is easier for people to remember works with me, after all, it’s not really the name that’s important. Plus I picked Sixes&Sevens for myself so I think of it as my secret agent name, operation make some awesome friends on Menewsha. xD Wow two years? Now that is dedication. I’m even more excited now thanks to your glowing recommendation! :) I’m planning to join into every discussion I have something to add to, it’s my challenge for myself and I agree with you completely that it’s more interesting. Thank you for the offer, I will be sure to send any lost new user PMs your way. Aren’t you lucky? ;D
Once again, thank you so much for the kind welcomes everyone!

xD That is a cool way to think of a username:idea:
But Sarah is easier for me to remember and type.
Well, I came from Gaiaonline and this place reminded me of the old innocent gaia. And It has been my virtual home since.
And that's the spirit! You will meet a lot of new users that way. ^^

PMs are always nice to get, especially since I do not get them often, so I do not mind. ^^

Feel free to use that then, the last thing I want to do is tangle up any one's fingers trying to figure out my username. xD
I'm actually from Gaiaonline as well, I didn't mention it at first because I know that it's a site that has something of a reputation elsewhere on the Internet (even just glancing around at the announcements I could tell that it's something users here are worried about), and I just wanted people to meet me before the stereotype. :)
I already have one question I will be sending to you, assuming I can't find an answer in all the wonderful guides hidden around here. xD

xD Eh...well...That announcement is probably the result of something that happened a little over a year ago, but no biggie. xD I try not to stereotype people personally anyways. It is a bad thing to do, like judging a book by its cover. xD
I am guilty of doing it occasionally though xD

Hee. I came from Gaia originally too (most of our users did, as much as some of them like to forget it or not mention it), so I've experienced some of the straight-away :talk2hand: some users can have... But I've also seen the utter welcoming side of Menewsha too. Most times of the year you'll get the welcoming response, though. XD

@ Winterwolfgoddess - Oh okay, I feel a lot less like I showed up at the eye of a hurricane if it happened a while ago. xD It's actually something of a relief, everything is much better when we can all get along, plus people fighting always makes me nervous. ):
I think stereotyping is natural on some level, the majority of people don't listen to silly rumors and it's possible to overcome stuff like that, but it can be difficult.
On a happier note, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who judges books by their covers. xD I have a horrible weakness for pretty cover art, and it has gotten me in trouble more than once.
@CK - That's interesting, and I'm glad to know I'm not the only Gaia transfer. :) Taking the good with the bad and all that, c'est la vie. (You have now seen the one French phrase I know xD)
On an unrelated side note, I just realized that when I type out my posts in a word document and then post them here it doesn't register for gold. (I like to proof read and all that, I'm a little obsessive in some cases xD) It makes sense, I just wish I would have realized it sooner. I didn't say anything because I just assumed there was no prize for pushing your own threads.

Same here with books. xD I have actually done it once, started to read the book...then immediately wanted to burn the book.xD It was so horrible. xD

Oh gosh I can't stand it when that happens.
When I was younger I had a third grade teacher I couldn't stand, but she gave us one awesome piece of advice. It's the "Three Chapter Rule", kind of a self explanatory title, but what can I say? We were fairly young. xD
It has forced me to give some books a chance that I would have otherwise quit on, but then came to love. :) But then you get the problem where after putting in three chapters you start to think to yourself "Well... might as well finish." and that has ended in some horrible wants to book burn.

Wow - really? It doesn't register if you use Word? I'm going to have to test that. D: I have a spellcheck feature installed for my Firefox browser, which helps me with my semi-OCD wish to have good spelling. (Grammar I'm a little less worried about as Word likes to add green squigglies a lot. >_>; )

If you're using QuickPost, though, it won't register the new gold right away. The gold next to your avatar in your new post and the gold registered at the top of the screen will be different...

Need to test the Word thing, though, as that would be awful for those who weren't able to use a spellcheck in their browser. D:

(Psst... I own to getting a book for its cover sometimes too. >_> )

My AP teacher said that too us a lot. xD Though two of the books I won't forgive him for making us read because I hated them so much. xD

Haha that's kind of funny, I use it mostly for the grammar help. My spelling is a mess as well, but for some reason I always fixate on my own grammar mistakes. The upside of that is I'm too involved with my own to notice anyone else's, unlike certain friends of mine. xD
I think the need for it mostly comes from the fact that the words are the only way to express yourself, and you want to make the best impression possible while keeping the conversation moving and understandable. :)
The Word thing could just be me overestimating the gold worth of my posts. xD
Although the clearest was when I first posted the thread and I didn't receive any, but the system could just be busy.
(Silly books, imagine if they all had the same cover... I bet it would be a horrible off white and just have the title in Times New Roman size 18 font.)

The more I think about it the more soul crushing the idea becomes, I'm pretty sure I would have to make my own covers for personal favorites.
I also have immense trouble with names, so covers help me out a bunch. It makes remembering titles horrible, and names of authors even worse.

I realize now that Word doesn't work on this computer. Poo! I'm asking some of the other staff to test it for me. >_>;

It's very possible that you're overestimating how much gold you should have got from a post. XD But it's no secret what the earning rate is. ;) You earn 0.02 gold per character that is not between brackets and is not punctuation.

So, "****" wouldn't give you any gold but "cat" should earn you 0.06 gold. ;) Which is why those who make really short posts feel like they're not earning anything, but it racks up quickly if you write more than a sentence or two. :0

And now that I've finished writing, staff members have reported back that they've copy and pasted from Word documents and earned their gold, so it's probably just expecting a bit more than you're actually earning. :3

ck- xD That is kind of hilarious. And something I would never have thought to do.

Sarah- same here. most authors have a particular style they use for covers of their books. xD

-slaps forehead-
Sorry for all the trouble, I guess I'm just a little greedy for pretty pixels.
-makes grabby hands-
I'm not even braving shops until I have at least a hundred or so under my belt because I know otherwise the pain will be too great. xD
And I think my avatar is enjoying prancing about in her undies for the time being, it is after all one of the few places in the whole world where that won't get you in serious trouble.
I'm loving the "bribe" to post long rambley discussions, as if I needed another incentive to try and make friends. xD

No worries. XD I'm greedy too. LOL. I rather dislike having conversations through PMs or profiles because you don't earn gold. :insane: I'd much rather chat it out in the forums. :3 And since we have loads and loads of items now, with more coming every month, it's super-easy to get addicted to getting the almighty MOAR.

Speaking of! I should let you know about events. XD Events are only the most awesome thing to stick around the site for. I've already forgotten (having responded to over a dozen Fresh Meat threads over the last few hours. D: ) if you've been to other avatar sites before - but most people have so I'm going to assume the answer is 'yes'. :B Our events here work a little differently than most sites I'm aware of.

I mean, we still have the usual "we give you free gifts for participating in the event" thing. But activity brings rewards. Usually, you earn 'event currency' for posting around the site during the event and you use that currency to buy the "free" gifts. We have staff-sponsored games where you can earn prizes and an entire event forum for chatting. The site really comes together and comes alive during events.

Even better, we have a commons update during that time. And during the event, those new commons are half-price. It would be well worth your while to save your gold until then. ;) Our event commons are usually some of the most loved new items on the site. And it's basically a two-for-one system at half-price. ;)

We're having our next event (called "Celes Paradi") next month, in early August. ;) So I hope you stick around until then!

Welcome to Menewsha, Sarah! I like your username. C: I see you like cultures and languages~ Have you been to other countries? C: I'm a fan of culture and language myself, I speak Chinese and I used to speak Spanish (but I forgot xD) and I want to learn Italian. I lived in China for two months last September and I hope to either major or minor in Chinese language or Asian studies. C: I hope to see you around here~
