Shortest anime I've ever seen was Animation Runner Kuromi which was one episode long and had a sequel: Animation Runner Kuromi 2. *ponders* Though maybe it is an OVA.
If so, then the shortest anime I've seen is Puri Puri Poemi which is two episodes long.

Well, FLCL was only 6 episodes because it was entirely experimental. In every episode the creators did something completely different as far as styles of animation and whatnot went. It was simply an experiment to see what worked and what didn't (learned this in my comic's class at school, we spent a day discussing manga & anime. It was the first time I had seen the anime, though not the first that I had heard of it (I actually knew exactly what it was when he started playing it because of all the wackiness going on XD )

@vercingetorix: it sounds like you're thinking of kakurenbo. it's an excellent movie. it's visually rich and detailed, and the story is told so well.
i think the shortest anime series i've seen is platonic chain. even though it has twenty four episodes, each episode is only about five minutes. it's a really fun series. each episode is a vignette about this new social networking service that makes use of cell phones and the internet. most of them are mostly just amusing, but a couple are actually really interesting. in one episode, we meet a girl who can't go into a store because of a headband connected to the internet, that measures the respectability of people in the surrounding area - the headband wouldn't let the girl into the store, because unsavory people were in there.

Holy cow I remember that! It was in 3D and everyone in it wore masks if I remember correctly ^^'

I particularily enjoyed what the animators did with FLCL. I got alot of good ideas about perspective drawing just by watching a few episodes X3
As to the topic, yesh I believe FLCL was one of the shortest anime's I'd ever watched without being *too* dissapointed at the ending.

the shortest anime i ever saw was Tokko, w/ only 13 episodes, altho i heard there's going to be a sequel. all i have to say about this anime is, if you don't like blood DO NOT watch. it's blood level rivals that of the Kill Bill movies.

FLCL is the shortest I've seen, followed by Steel Angel Kurumi which is still a good length but not huge like many others.

The shortest anime I've watched was FLCL, like mostly everyone else
That was back when Adult Swim had a marathon of it and showed all six episodes.

I have no idea I have an account on anime-planet.com so I guess I could go through my list and check the length of some of them. Because off hand I clearly don't have a clue and am now racking my brain over it :?
um I guess it was Final Fantasy: Legend Of The Crystals, which had 4 episodes. Though I barely remember this anime and could hardly count it.

Now and Then, Here and There. It was only 13 episodes long - but it was tight, with no filler. Every episode built up suspense and character. It was spectacular.

I found Gestalt far too short for my liking.
3 OVAs. Same for Petshop of Horrors.
Gestalt had a HANGING ending and seemed like a teaser for the mange. I don't think it ever got translated though. Then Petshop of Horrors wasn't that bad but it also felt... lacking.
It dwelt too much on the darker side of the Count.
But the voice acting, the animation and everything was top notch.
I still wish they made more though.
I like Fireball. xD Very short! 12 episodes and they're all under 2 minutes.
I don't like spoiled rich brats in real life but if they're portrayed in anime/manga/whatever, they seem so...lovable? Drossel's like that. He he he.

Uh... Kogepan?
I mean seriously, the entire series is like 45 minutes long. It's so cute though.
Following that I think would either be Fruits Basket, or Devil May Cry or something. Both has like 12 episodes. I think The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya had like 12 episodes as well. Fruits Basket had a horrible ending though. Read the manga instead. I vaguely remember Wolf's Rain to be fairly short as well. I really can't remember anymore. xD

Hm....I think it was Tales of Symphonia which was only three episodes...but it was still good! I dislike short animes, they rush into the relationships and plots way too quickly and leave the view for more. They should add to them later.
