Whenever I complained about my 5 minute walk to school in the below-freezing weather of Wisconsin, my mom would always remind me when my brother was in school, he walked 5 miles in the snow in New Mexico to get to school. And I always say, "Did he fall on his butt slipping on an un-salted sidewalk?!?! No!" and rant some more while trying to warm up in the stupid drafty haunted house we lived in. :stare: I hate Wisconsin weather in the Winter. ._. And I'm saying this as my teeth are chattering at 70 degrees xD

@Rawr:
Ahh, that's a long walk, but I didn't know it snowed in New Mexico. Isn't it usually really how down in the south west?
D'ahh, i love the cold! 70 degree weather is heaven for me. It's so hot in my house. It's about 80 degrees in here. blah =/

Actually, since its almost desert weather, New Mexico gets pretty darn cold in the winter. >.< I'm just not so used to the lovely cool air, I just recently got a new fan put in my AC at my apartment cause some stupid kids had been jumping on it. :stare:

I LOL'd when I read your rants about your dad's stories.
My parents don't do that to me. I'm lucky. =]
But then again, I hardly see them so it's kind of rare for me to talk to them, let alone for them to tell me a story about their childhood.

kids jumping on it?" oh I would've killed 'em D<

Aw, I'm sorry =/
They can be annoying, but for the most part, the stories are decent.
Although my dad's are just out of control and he always tells them when I'm in a bad mood D';

My parents aren't that bad, thank goodness.
I do get the "you have it so much easier with all your new fangle technology" speech a lot from them. A lot of the time they take it back when they need help using the computer.

It's funny but my parents like to brag about how smart they were when they were young. Like they would say "You know when I was young we had nothing to do but study because we were so poor. No video games, no computer, no piano, no paints, just studying. I used to solve math problems for seven hours straight! No wonder I only got As in school."
Kinda figures since they are Asian, but still (lol)

Haha, that's funny. My dad always ask me for help on his comp, and I say "Ask (my brother). He knows more about it than me." I get away with it alot xD
@az:
OMG!!!! XD That last part cracked me up lol. D'ahh, it's so funny.
My parents say that a lot too though. They always say "You need to go out more. You're gonna gain so much weight by playing games and being on the computer." and I'm like "Is that why your stomach is so big now?" XD

Both my parents were party animals in their day, so we mainly get stories about keggers, and parties... although by the time I was 10 I knew how to properly tab most fruits... not that I've tried yet... planning to on my next party. *giggles*
Also lots of stories about injuries. My moms favorite is when she was cutting something during a party... I forget what... the knife slipped and she cut through her finger (she was sober at this time). She ran around the house, bleeding, laughing saying "hey guys look at this, you can see the bone!". Several of the guys fainted or puked, until she showed it to my dad (her boyfriend at the time) and got her to the hospital... I love my mom.

lol my mom does those things with the fan and lights
its always turn off the fan and open the door so we dont waste electricity and my grandma says the same thing but when my friends come knocking on the door she says to close the door and turn the fan on.
Then at night they tell me to turn off the lights if we dont need them but we do and they turn them off anyway and then we turn them back on and we basically have a fight over the light switch xD
but with my dad if we leave anything on in the house and were not using it at the moment he sees it he turns it off and says why did we have it on and most of the time my response is i just went to get something to drink of water or something lol

My dad is exactly like that, it's so annoying. He's one of 8, so he has this weird obsessive thing about owning everything in the house.
'DON'T TOUCH THAT, IT'S MINE.'
'Uh... I bought it...?'
'WITH THE MONEY I GAVE YOU.'
'No.. with my paycheck.. That I earned....'
And if I don't say thank you for every thing he'll flip out at me and tell me I'm an ingrate. Like, he tripped me up, and he said sorry and yelled because I didn't say sorry back. D: I just don't get him.

But your mom sounds super cool :D
@.The.Yam.Thief:
Well, as long as your happy =]
Hmm, maybe ^^
@Inu:
D'ahh, my parents won't even lemme turn the ac on if my friends come over =/
and my fan in my room is broken so it sucks!
haha, that's a good excuse though =]
@Tilly:
Ahh, my dad used to be like that. Now he is only like that with food. If I have fries, he takes some and says he paid it so he can.
Though, he doesn't go as far as yours does. =/

Stories that they tell me to make me feel bad is that they don't have the things like i have and stuff like that. But i really don't think they tell me that for doing me feel bad. I think they just want me to see what much i have. Lol well im almost sure they do it for that. But oh well! And well your father some reason mabe he had for saying that things im almost sure of that, mabe im wrong but i don't think so. Lol.
Parents for me are like a mistery you will never know what they're thinking on, (well mine) and well they are some times nice, somethimes weird. I don't know but kinda, it's hard to explain i guess. =)

My dad does that all the time, it drives me INSANE. He repeats the same stories over and over again. so today when we were passing by his old apartment, and he was telling us about how PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE and all that other good stuff, I finished every single one of his stories and tangents. Not kidding. I even said, "I know, I know, you've told us over 9000 times" and he just ignored me and kept going. D:
Most of the time, he's just doing it to be an ass. :| He tells us how dedicated he was in school, how he cried when he couldn't enter school early, how he used to go to the store to buy food at 3, how he moved away at 15, learned how to cook on his own, etc. and it's all while he's trying to make us look like we're lazy girls who don't try at anything and are going nowhere with our lives, and so on. BAHHH.

@Luzzy:
I know! My dad is the same way. Instead of patience, he talks to me about life. He asks me "What's life all about son?" and I'm like "I don't know. Isn't it different between each person" and he's like "I'm going to tell you right now" and I'm like (in my head) "NOooooOOOoo"

SERIOUSLY. D:
If you show any signs on life, they will POUNCE ON YOU
with their life lessons and old sayings. TT______TT
The horrible thing about that is that I have 2 other sisters.
So when he starts talking, they always leave me to talk with him. =____=
My sisters either storm out ((youngest)) or sigh and leave ((middle))
As the oldest and most.. compassionate((?)) I guess...
I always have to stay and make conversation.
I sacrifice myself for them D:

My dad and I don't really talk a lot ever since he's very busy and ever since I learned English, I can't understand or speak Lao good anymore...; 3; </3333333
But he always have interesting stories when I learn more Lao I ask him about it and he tells me these stories. C:
When I cook, I get scared when he watches because I am afraid that I messed up on cooking but instead he asks me if he wants him to do it and I said I am ok but sometimes when he helps, he actually just does it for me and I feel guilty...; 3; but I am glad that he helps me out. ^ U^

Whenever I complained and said things about school being too hard, they -not just my mom but my sisters too!- would rattle on how hard school was for them too. Heck even harder they say. They didn't have the benefits of their own chairs and had to bring their own and technology too. Here we are, slobs and sloths, unable to appreciate what we already have.
But you still see them rattle on as well as to how stupid the educational system has become, focusing and adding so many useless subjects when back in their day----
SIGH.
I'm confused. XD
One thing's for sure though: There is an obvious generation gap. Please. No need to mipose your values on today all the time. It's not always applicable. -_-

@Luzzy:
I know. I must by a mask to hid my facial expressions so he won't know D; I doubt that'll work though =/
Ahh really? My older brothers just get yelled at, I get the lectures about life. It sucks D;
@Bunnie:
D'ahh, that sounds like a good relationship :D
When i was making these potatoes that I learned off at a camp, I left it on the stove and went to the restroom. My dad was sleeping so I was like "It's on low it won't mess up". Then when I get back, my dad is hovering over the stuff pouring endless amount of cooking wine in it. I was like "YOUR MESSING IT UP! D<" and I couldn't eat it at all because it tasted nothing else but Wine =[
@Whitebeast:
My parents don't really argue much with me on education. But just on picking me up from school. My mom says just pick them up and my dad says no they can walk. Then my mom's mom get's into this and gets mad at him, but oh well. Alls well that ends well I suppose.
I know. They shouldn't be trying to push their values on us if we don't necessarily believe in the exact ones, but they'll still do it anyways ^^
