It actually depends on the fish. Koi can live 225 yrs old. Some other fish only live a year as "annuals" who naturally die when their rain puddle dries up.
When it comes to typical aquarium fish, goldfish, cichlids and catfish have longer lifespans, with goldfish being the longest lived. A few goldfish have turned 40+ yrs.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I'm a little surprised that it couldn't smell the treat though. I'm sure it will adjust more as time goes on.

I've lost four kitties in three years. Three of them to feline leukemia, which is contagious among cats, and the other got hit by a car. Sadly, getting hit by the car may have been more merciful, as she had the leukemia as well, so her death was inevitable. We didn't know until the first one got sick and I took her to the vet and found out. I was told that they didn't know if they could even try to bring her back to health, and even if we did, she would just get sick again and die soon enough, so I made painful decision to put her to sleep, and still haven't gotten over it because I felt I should have tried to give her more time. But then, I watched the next one go down. It was horrible. It was more my son's and he wasn't ready yet. By the time he was, she was so far gone it was pitiful. They had a hard time even finding a vein. Then Crybaby got hit. And then her sister went down about a month later. She went down so quickly within a matter of days-so quick that when we knew to take her in the next morning, she was gone.
~~~shudders~~~That was a horrible ordeal. And now I have four kitties AGAIN. Son has brought home two of them, one was not affected by the leukemia so she's still alive, and I got one from the shelter as a buddy for one son brought home before he brought the LAST one home. NO MORE, I told him-I'm at my limit!
Sorry for the sad novel.
I only have one mule, as per the rules of the site. But since I am helping Roachy run the raffle which still needs a few more people (*shameless plug*) because she can't be here and would have closed it otherwise, I've been logging into her extra mule.
See, she has her account, a mule, and then ARK, which she has permission from the mods to own since she uses it for a charity.
I thought it was extremely nice, how she made it. She won the referral contest, and asked Mr. Mayor if she could sell the Golden Clover Hairpin to start a charity. =) I'm so glad she was allowed, it was nice of her to give back to the community. ^^
Another one I can think of is Firefly. All they had was the pilot on Fox, and then nothing else until Serenity came out. =) Though, at least Firefly had at least one complete season. I'm not sure if they continued on or not.
It's like what they did for the stupid Tales of Symphonia OVA. They cut what should happen in 80-120 hours of gameplay and put it into four OVA episodes of 30 minutes each. =X
@Crazy: You'd just have to chat in the ARK thread, lol. Chat a substantial amount and I'll add you to the listeh~
