@Thulhu: I wouldn't say it's entirely irrelevant, since Canada played a role in the Civil War and the slave trade at various points, but it's pretty much irrelevant to the every day Canadian, yes.

Bah, we cover canadian history in grades 3 through 6 there's just way too much info to add concurrent American history. And in highschool we're learning about the rest of the world and the world wars. Basically at the age I learned that there was an american civil war, I couldn't have read the book.
