Good luck with packing, Sky!

It's okay, sometimes I have a hard time with acronyms too.

Ages ago when I was in the Navy, we used acronyms constantly. Now, I'm having to ask people to define chatspeak for me - I get pretty interesting looks from people like I'm asking them to describe what air is.

Goodbye Sky. Come back around to the regular Tea Room after the event.
(The link is in my signature).

Hello and goodbye then,flugel!

I understand the entire thing about the acronyms, Elmira. Most times I'm in quite a bit of a fog.

I still have a hard time with acronyms and terms. The internet is just full of them and I can't always keep up.

It just seems that there are always new ones to learn! The husband of a friend of mine taught English at our university. During his first year as an instructor, he discovered that several students would include chat or textspeak in their essays. Makes me wonder if or when some of those acronyms and abbreviations will make it into a standard dictionary.

Acronyms, huh? While I was in the waiting room at the hospital today, the newspaper was talking about the new annex for the university going up. The newspaper headlined, "The U of W ANX" Tell me you see what I see!

They... they included it in their essays! Don't those little brats know when to be serious?! I hope they NEVER make it into the dictionary, we abuse the poor language enough as it is! I don't know why that makes me so angry because I'm not an English major or anything but for some reason... I sure hope he marked each and every one of them down. >:C

I suppose that most of the youngsters in here don't understand that you get more gold if your post is longer. Therefore, by using acronyms, you shorten your post, meaning you get less gold.

It's the texting craze. I want to grab their cellphones out of their hands and smash them. I usually own a cellphone when I'm working because it's really handy when you don't have a car. Sometimes bus routes change, you need to call because you'll be late, etc. I just hate how kids use them to text all the time now. My younger cousins spent all of Christmas day on their cellphones instead of spending time with us, their family.

You make a good point granny but sometimes they topic you reply to may not have much to be said. Therefore your post is much shorter than you would like it to be. >.> But alas I try to get as many words out of it as possible, like this for example, I am just rambling on for no reason at this point, but more words means more money :D

My boss spends all day texting instead of working, kids aren't the only ones. -_- That's why I don't allow texts on my phone, it's totally pointless and I don't need to be spammed with texts and stupid videos or pictures all day.

The worst is texting while driving. It is now illegal to drive and use your cellphone at the same time, but it's not going to be enforced with punishment until next year. My friend always texts while trying to drive, it's SCARY.

Am I weird for not caring how much gold I get for a post? I still use contractions and try to keep the babbling to a minimum, everything's so cheap here compared to what I'm used to that taking a little extra to quest for something seems... immaterial.

Depends how fast you type. I can type upwards of 93 wpm so a few extra letters for proper grammer is no real difference to me. I just type properly because it's... proper and really easy to do.

Hello everyone ^_^

Rampage-- if I was in the vehicle with someone that started to text while driving, I would have taken the phone from right out of their hand. Texting while driving wfould be more dangerous than just talking on the phone since you have to look down at the phone.

There has been a lot of rediculous "words" put into the dictionary recently because they are used often enough in casual speech.

I don't think I type near that fast, but I can type without looking at my fingers and am almost always accurate so I can quickly get out something relevant. I think I was around 65 WPM last I checked.

The students were actually surprised that he marked off for text/chatspeak.

I'm in cosmetology school right now and it shocks me that people will sit in my chair - when I have either color, bleach or scissors in hand - and text all sorts of things to people. Some people tend to communicate more effectively that way than verbally. So odd.

I don't understand doing that... it used to be that people would TALK to their barber/beautician while getting their hair done. I chat with mine whenever I go in (not very often recently, I'm trying to grow my hair out) and we usually have nice little chats. Then again, I have to take my glasses off and I can barely see without them.

I agree with you and everybody else. This is a terrible thing to do.
There are also other non-tech things that are bad. I knew somebody who actually put her makeup on while driving to work. I rode with her once (just once). It was terrifying.

Hello Daria! Are you too busy now to stay around and talk with us?
(I'm just kidding dear. Thank you for stopping by).

I also always chat with my beautician. (What are we supposed to call you now, Elmira?) It's a wonderful way to connect with others.
