@ Miro: Absolutely not.
....
okay, I suppose it's a bit subjective. But, in general, if he's not perfect to begin with, what use is he to me?
Women too, for that matter.

... o_O That sounds a little.. strange.
If a person is willing to change themself they're of no use?

@ Yume:
So, the way I see it, if someone's willing to change, they haven't yet done it, but they see a reason they should. Like "I know I shouldn't smoke, so I'm willing to quit. Buuuuut I'm going to light up anyway."
I'd have to say such a person diminishes their character by seeing something they should be, being willing to become it, but not doing it.
If that person stopped smoking, that's different. They saw a flaw and changed it, and now they have no need to change (as far as that attribute anyway). If they are unwilling to change, then they see no flaw.
I guess it's important to be able to admit you're wrong, but if you're wrong, why continue being wrong and just admit you should change your mind?

Well if a person says they are willing to quit, maybe they just need some help?
Same with change. People can't always do it on their own, they need a little boost or nudge to keep them going.

@ Yume: I can't think of an example of something a person would need help to change about themselves. If they truly believe they should be different than they are, then, I believe, they'll succeed on their own. And I would argue that people who fail to change on their own lack the conviction to do it and are trying for ingenuine reasons.
But if you have an illustration I'd be happy to hear it.

Such as with a drug, they are powerful and can be addicting. If a person is willing to quit, they might not be able to do it by themself, no matter how willing they are.
They may need counseling, someone to talk to, whatever, to help them get through that addiction and to finally rid themself of the drug.
Sometimes you just need the support.

@ Yume: Okay, I guess that's possible. I would have said they should check into rehab or something, because I hadn't thought of that as relying on others to help. But, this is still someone who's actively seeking to change. Not just willing to do it.
And what I meant when I originally said it was that I have no interest in a person who's willing to change for me. If House, addicted to vicodin, is willing to get clean just because I told him to, I would think less of his dreamy self. If he truly doesn't want to be a slave to the drug, he should give it up regardless of what I want. And if he truly would rather have the drug, then my preferences shouldn't change his mind.
Same goes for people who are controlling, or violent, or who chew with their mouth open. If they feel something's wrong, they should change it, with or without someone else's prodding.
But if, as you say, they need help to do it, I would count it as a separate issue. I would say it's the difference between asking someone to help you break a habit, and asking someone to break it for you.

Ooh, I get what you mean I think.
So if they aren't willing to do it for themself or on their own, it's not worth the trouble?
That I can agree with.

I thought of adding the other characters. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I need to decide whether or not I hate Hyde's duds yet before I go making up more Menewsha non-existent 70s clothing. Besides, Hyde's so hot. ^-^
