Just a small correction: it's not a Japanese-style animated movie; it *is* a Japanese animated movie.

Earlier today I watched it with subtitles, and it's quite beautiful. I confess it's not my favorite Miyazaki movie, but I'll enjoy watching it a few times more, I'm sure. I dread the dub, though, even if Miyazaki dubs usually aren't that bad (with the exception of Kiki's Delivery Service). I'll be buying this as soon as it comes out on DVD, for sure!

Miyazaki movies are always so well animated, I would really like to see it, but I think I would like to find the original Japanese version somewhere though <3

I want to watch Ponyo. But I don't think it came out in any theaters near me yet.

Was the creator for Ponyo the same for Spirited Away? I love that movie. Even though No Face stil scares the crap out of me xD

Miyazaki is amazing! I'm deffinately going to see it. I'll probably wait until it comes out for rent because it didn't actually capture my interest. I loved his other films, which is why I'm giving it a chance at all. What I'm afraud of is it being directed at an age group so much lower then mine... D:

Personally, while it still had that entrancing feeling that all of his films have, this has been my least favorite so far. It was adorable and wonderful, but it felt rather rushed at some parts, especially near the end (I won't go into details since I don't want to post any spoilers.)

I think I agree completely with this: it lacks the coherence of other Ghibli movies. The ending *was* rushed; a lot of people want more background for the man.

But I really love the mother figure, so capable and self-reliant. The light signals! BA-KA-BA-KA-BA-KA....

It seems cute, but to me Miazaki has had previous films I found more captivating.

I haven't seen but I sure want to . Spirited Away is like my favorite movie ever!! I'll hopefully see it in the theaters, but if not I'll defiantly rent it. I think it looks really original. I've never heard of a fish becoming a human before. It's kind of weird to think about.

I wanted to see it, but only 2 theaters near me were playing it and by the time I had a chance to be able to go it was out of theaters (it was like only in there for 2 weeks D: ) I remember seeing the Japanese trailer for it in the beginning of the year and it looked super adorable. I'm going to wait until it comes out on DVD now T___T

Yes, I have seen Ponyo, twice in the theatre. I felt so lucky ^^. Personally, my favorite character in the film ended up being Fujimoto. He was just such a little spaz, but he really did love his daughter. I almost squealed when my friend pointed out that he was signaling to Ponyo's new family with a spotlight on his submarine during the credits, apparently.

Ponyo....hamu....sukiiiiiiii! I saw Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea while I was in Tokyo. The movie is adorable (as is expected of Hayao Miyazaki). If you haven't seen it yet, check it out for sure.

It was so awesome, while I was in Tokyo Ponyo was all the rage. An aquarium I went to at the Shingawa Prince hotel was full of Ponyo exhibits, and they even sang the ending Ponyo song after the aquarium show. It was adorable. There was Ponyo stuff everywhere! Of course, I picked up some souvenirs. :)

My brother burned me a copy after renting it. He lives in Japan now so I get lots of goodies now :D It took a little bit to navigate the dvd menues though. Instead of turning the subtitles on I had turned the sounds off! Woops well I figured that out soon enough and was able to enjoy it ok. Though I found Ponyo's dad to be incrediably weird and creepy.

Love the Japanese voices as aposed to the ones I heard in the American previews. I don't like that Disney always picks the latest popular kids who are often Disney brats.
