My friends, family, and I often have debates on correct pronunciation. My sister and I have always pronounced "Bag" like "Beg" and apparently that's weird. Same with "Flag" we say "Fleg".

Also, I also find myself (being a loser) in debates with friends about the pronunciation of certain websites. Gaia for an example, I've always pronounced it "Guy-uh" while some people I know call it "Gee-uh".

The current debate: How to Pronounce "Menewsha"
I think this would be less confusing if we didn't all say different things. >.<

One of us pronounces it: "Men-oo-sha"
One of us pronounces it: "Men-way-sha"
One of us pronounces it: "Men-wi-sha"

Any of us correct? o.0

Discuss:
-How you pronounce different words
-Website names
-Whatever else you feel like. :]

I pronounce it Men-oo-sha, mostly because that's the only way that makes sense to me by how it's spelled. xD;

I used to be not able to say "Decision". I used to say something like, "de-shisin" x3;
And I pronounce Gaia like, "gay-uh" even though I know for sure you're supposed to pronounce it "Guy-uh"
|D

Didn't someone say that the original owner of Menewsha intended it to sound like "minutia"? So I guess it's supposed to be pronounced exactly that way.

Same with Gaia - the name originates from the Greek Goddess, so I pronounce it exactly like I would Her name (the original pronunciation, not the Latin's-to-difficult-to-pronounce-for-English-speaking-people one :D).

I've been told I say the word "gibberish" wrong. I think the proper pronunciation is "jibberish", but I use the "g" sound. I also say the word "compromise" like "com-promise" instead of "com-pro-mize". I'm stubborn though, and enjoy arguing about my grossly erroneous speech patterns. xD

Oh my goodness, I'm a stickler for correct pronunciation. I guess it's because I struggled with an accent for years that I was embarrassed and ashamed of! I will constantly harangue others about mispronunciations until they get it right! Mom and I just had a discussion about the word "squirrel" the other day. Seems none of us (mom, me or my daughter) can pronounce the word as it's supposed to be pronounced!

I personally pronounce Gaia as "Guy-uh" and Menewsha as "Men-oo-sha." My ex-boyfriend though was from Canada and he pronounced a lot of things weird. Like Bagel is pronounced "Bay-gull" but he pronounced it "Bag-el." Other than that I pronounce things as I see them spelled or how the dictionary says to pronounce it. Lol. I sometimes have a problem with names of thing like, the names of the pets on Neopets I always (way back in the day) pronounced them differently than my friends and family.

I try my hardest to always use correct pronunciation on things.
It bugs me though, that since I'm also a Spanish-speaker, a little of ma Latin flavour~~ :sarcasm: always slips out, and I end up sounding kinda like those whores do on shows like Cops. xD

My friends are worse though. D:< UGH. One of them pronounces EVERYTHING wrong, despite being a college student now :gonk: and spells "chic" like "sheek" or "sheik" when she claims to be a wooonderful fashionista. :|
Another one gets her sayings and phrases wrong. Instead of saying "out of the blue" she says "out of the random." o~o;;
And don't even get me started on my sister. D:< She gets spelling, grammar, reading AND pronunciation wrong. T____T

I try to correct them but they never ever listen to me. ;____;
Booooooo.

Out of the [email protected] Dictionary. English's not my mother tongue, so I'm not sure about how slangy this is, but it seems like this is a viable variant on the original phrase.

(But maybe it's just like "I could care less" <--- Really hate that one, for it completely defeats the original saying's meaning! :o )

My teacher was so anal about-if you dare to say clique as "clee-ic" she'd kill you. It was "click" not "clee-ic." I can't remember what else she was a stickler about but she would seriously snarl if you didn't pronounce something right because she expected all her pre-AP students to know better-than-average English walking into that class.

Being an anime fan and manga reader, I HATE it when people pronounce Japanese names and words wrong... Especially when people pronounce manga as 'mayn-ga'... It's pronounced mahn-ga!!! GRAH!!! Sorry.

Err, I pronounce it meh-noo-sha...XD they need a pronunciation guide for all websites to prevent arguments. Though I have no room to talk, my speaking skills can be less than perfect practically all the time. XD

I've been calling it Meh-new-sha myself.

Another lil bit is my mom. When she says 'birthday' she says 'birfday'. I keep correcting her everytime. XD

I generally pronounce words how they are meant to be, but some words I just can't pronounce O_O
Like 'taxonomy' I say 'taxomomy" and when I try to say 'garage' I say 'garash' @[email protected]
Gaia I said "Guy-a"
and for Menewsha I say "Men ew sha" XDDD

EDIT :: I forgot to add this by my boyfriend has an almost perfect pronunciation for English words (he's natively russian) but some words..
Like 'road' he says 'roed' and for stuff like 'door' and 'floor' theres an ae sound in it..
