MALE BOX
What to do when all your father does is engage you to strange men?
All Cho wanted to do was to follow in her Mother's footsteps of being a priestess. Training her mind and her magic in aiding others gave her enough to do without her foolishly and strangly overprotective father throwing males at her. His idea was if he had enough capable young men looking after her, then his role in a parent would be acomplished. He was a bit over the top since her mother had died. Now her and her little sister were left to defend themselfs against this strangly paternal instinct that seemed to get them into more trouble then out.

The soft pitter patter of rain sang around her like tiny magical drums. It was soothing, this weather, all the better for meditation and relaxation. Her father had left some days ago for his trip to the city, catching up on gossip, picking up supplies one couldn’t get in this small town. He was due back a few days ago and was a bit late. But that was quite typical of her father, such a frivolous man. Til he returned though, it was up to Utacho and her little sister to maintain their father’s home and their mother’s temple. Ryuji came by every so often to check up on them and wreak a little havoc, but it made things all the more fun.
Utacho, finished tying the braid in her hair and stood up. Rain or no rain, she still had chores to do, rituals to perform. She tightened her clothing ties, her traditional Shinto priestess garb and left her room. She quickly swapped her house slippers for her shoes and grabbed an umbrella before making her way out along the tiny stone path that lead up the hill toward the well kept little Shinto temple. Utacho felt a great deal of pride knowing that her own mother, slayer of demons walked these very steps when she lived, and in spirit still watched over the beautiful sanctuary.
As she reached the top, her feline tail swooping back and forth, she headed strait to her duties, lighting the incense and checking the seals that guarded this sacred place. If the rain weren’t peaceful enough, this temple, was a tiny slice of Heaven on Earth. So quiet, so calm, she was perfectly contented to spend the rest of her days here in this peaceful place.
She moved into the inner area of the temple then. Magic was something that needed to be practiced daily; hand symbols, recitations, the use of seals, knowing and learning them all was her duty and so she began her studies.

Mari ran around the temple grounds in search of another day's adventure. She had found a sturdy stick earlier and she was weilding it as a sword. She walked around trying to imitate a true warrior guarding his castle. In truth this was her castle. A home she loved and cherished. Sh held her 'sword' before her upright as she marched about the grounds. She watched the grounds before her and she though she caught the corner of her sister's robes go around a corner.
She ran off after where she last saw her sister.
"Chooooo! Cho!!! Neesan!" she cried her feet pattering amongst the graveled walkway. she ran around the corner to see her sister already amongst her chores. She Walked behind her at a little distance. she put on a gruff face again brandishing her stick to defend her sister as she did her duties.

Utacho giggled slightly at her sister's musing, Mari was young and so energetic. She loved her sister dearly, but she still had to complete her duties, she moved into a blocked off room and closed the door behind her. There were some rituals others were not meant to see, and little a Mari knew it.
Utacho did as she needed to do until she had completed all of her morning chores and rituals, finally emerging to smile at her stick-weilding little sister. Her sister had bocome her little shadow after thier mother's death. Cho thought it may have been in part due to the fact that, like her mother, one day, she'd be fighting demons too and perhaps the little one had become overprotective. But Cho couldn't know for certain, she couldn't exactly read minds.
"Do you want to do your Kendo lessons earlier nee-chan?" Utacho said in her usual calm voice, "I would race you today, but it's far too wet, why don't we walk together?" She held her hand out to the younger girl with a smile.

She swung her stick around and paced back and forth in front of the door her sister was cloistered off in. March march march... Watch...look, wait what was that sound? Ah an evil grasshopper! She went off to chase the offending insect before returning to her post.
When her sister came out she went up to her a big grin on her face.
"Hai!" (yes) She said excitedly jumping up and down, her tail whipped back and forth and her ears stood upright in her excitement. She loved her kendo lessons. She always felt stronger after a lesson. She stood next to her sister and walked with her.
"how was the ritual this morning Ne-san? I say an evil creature, but I chased it off for you."

Utacho giggled, "I see, well thank you. It's good to know I have such a brave sister to look after me." She ruffled the younger girl's hair a bit. "Ryuji promised he'd come by for dinner, and he promised a surprise. Maybe he'll bring sweets."
She sighed, Cho would never admit it aloud, but she was pretty sure she looked forward to treats as much, if not, more than her sister did. It was such a rare thing to get in such a small town. And honestly, she had no idea where Ryuji got these things from, the crazy Monk was so confusing to her sometimes. But they were best friends, so it made it all worth the while.
As they neared the house, the rain began to lessen. "Okay, Mari, let's go get into our training clothes then we'll head to the Dojo."
Cho moved in the foyer then, slipping off her shoes and getting back on her slippers before heading back to her room. Cho liked Kendo lesson's almost as much as Mari did. Though she prefered the temple to fighting, since her mother's death, father had insisted she learn real fighting on top of the typical priestess magic. She was surprisingly good at it, had a"natural hand" the teacher had said. Though Mari was even beter than she was, it was almost scary, but at the same time, nice to know that her sister could beat up any boy who ever tried to hurt her.
After she had changed she moved back into the foyer to wait for her sister, sitting down on the small step at the entrance.

she pranced a bit as she followed her sister, laughing along with her. She ran off to go get changed herself. Cloths went flying as she looked for what she wanted. As she dug through she realized it was already out.. Blushing sheepishly she re shoved the clothes back into her basket and grabbed the already layed out uniform. She threw it on and then raced back out to her sister. She wasn't even winded. She had more energy then a snowstorm in full force.
"Okay! I'm ready." She declared and stood before her for any inspection she may have wanted. she was excited to go. The teacher was well suited to the martial arts, and he knew all sorts techniques. He was good too... not overly strict, but not softhearted to the point were he wouldn't give his best to his students. She was to learn a new move today, so she really wanted to get going.
"Can we go? Like right now?" She asked anxiously.

Utacho laughed at her sister’s question and moved over to her to check her clothes, tightening ties and straightening her up properly before standing back up. “Okay, that’s better. Let’s go sweety.”
She turned then, getting her shoes on and stepping out into the cool after rain air. The ground was still wet, but tiny streams of light were breaking through the clouds and dotting the ground with their shimmering light. Cho lead her sister up the path and out of their home’s front gate’s. A cobble stone road lead them up to the small town perched on the hill beyond. Two midsized wooden gates were kept open as people came and went. Several people bowed and said hello to the two as they passed.
“But she has such a temper. How can she hope to be a good Priestess,” A town folk’s voice caught Cho’s ear and she slowly turned to see who was speaking. It turned out to be a young man and Cho seemed to glow a violent red and she marched over to him.
“What was that?” She asked with a twitch through her teeth.
The guy almost seemed to wet himself, “Um…nothing, I mean. You’ll make a wonderful High Priestess.”
Immediately the flame disappeared and Cho beamed brightly, her voice returning to her usual sweetness, “Thanks! I’ll do my best!”
She turned then, taking up her sister’s hand and almost forcefully began pulling her toward a building at the other end of town. As they finally approached she smiled and let go of her sister, turning and sighing.
“Now that that’s over,” She turned and headed toward the practice area of the Dojo where students had already begun to gather.

She paced from foot to foot anxiously as her sister fussed over her....then they were off. she tred happily down the path. that is until her sister overheard some villagers. she winced as he sister stormed in their direction. She may be a better fighter, but her sister seemed to get into more fights then as needed for a priestess.
She sighed in relief as nothing much happened and her sister returned. She looked up at her a little worried, but as soon as they were at the dojo she couldn't hold her excitement in anymore.
"Wooo!" she cried and ran into the building. She saw several other students of various sizes and ages practicing the morning drills. she waved at them and spotted a particularly monk.
"Ryuji!" she cried and tackled the boy.
Ryuji was out helping out some of the newer students at the dojo. People always remarked about how he knew just about everything and would appear where an extra hand was needed. He always passed it off as luck to those who wondered with a wink. He heard the familiar scampering and braced himself for the pounce that was to come. He pretended to be shocked and even fell backward, although with a practiced and carefully planned fall.
"ooof! Are you hiding more muscles under that ourfit little miss mischeif?" he asked his eyes sparkling.
"Yeah I'm strong!" She held out an arm for him to inspect.
He intently examined the little arm tsking and making speculative noises.
Mari grew impatient and shook her arm in front of his nose.
"alright, yes! you are doing wonderful. wanna practice together?" He smiled and pushed the girl off and got into the first stance. Mari rolled off him and came up in the same position grinning.
"Hey Cho! come and practice with us." He waved his favorite tease over.

Cho smiled as her sister rushed off to tackle Ryuji and slowly walked over arms folded as Mari showed their friend her muscles. As the two turned to her and asked her to practice with them, she nodded.
“Of coarse, lets do some warm up’s first. Afterward Ryuji and I can spar, and you can spar the winner.” She moved over to an empty space, no weapon in hand and began to slowly do the typical Kendo moves. Her movements were fluid and graceful, her long black hair bouncing lightly. In due time she finished and moved over to the weapon’s rack, grabbing a wooden sword and moving to the center of a large circle.
“Ready when you are Ryuji.” She smirked, a devilish glint growing in her eyes.

Ryuji and Mari Raced through their warm ups, trying to outdo each other. Mari would win on most of the really flexible ones, but Ryuji definitely won the ones that took more strength and practice. He ruffled Mari's head when they had finished, only to turn and see Cho waiting and ready for him.
"Alright... I think I'll try fighting you barehanded today." He grinned wickedly at her, a sparkle in his eye in response to her devilish glint. he joined her in the middle of the circle and stood straight to give her the formal bow.
Mari wasn't sure who to root for so she walked around the circle cheering both.
"WOOO! Go get em Cho! Ryuji Do your best!"
Inwardly Ryuji thought if he did give his best, their would be dire consequences. besides like this, he shouldn't have any trouble.

Cho glared at Ryuji as he said that, “What you think I’m that weak that you can take me on like that.” She readied her sword, “Fine, you’re the one that’s gonna get hurt.”
She smirked slightly, she knew Ryuji knew she’d never actually hurt him on purpose, though she was prone to accidental injuries to others on occasion. Well, it was a chance Ryuji seemed willing to take.
Cho gave him the traditional bow before standing at the ready, beginning to slowly move around her friend. With a good amount of speed she bolted forward, trying to slash downward across her friend’s chest with her wooden sword.

He leaned back as the sword came out him, exerting just enough energy to get out of the way, he could almost feel the air movement and a few splinters of the wood as it sliced over him. he in return shot a hand forward like a hand blade to jab her in the neck. his movements were quick and powerful like a snake strike. It was about precision and patience. He was sure she would be able to block him for a while, but eventually he would find a mark and strike.
Mari continued to cheer along the sidelines.
"OOO watch out! Nice speed!" she jumped up and down as she watched them, her tail flicking back and forth. A few other students had gathered to watch. They murmured back and forth about the outcome of the match.

Cho brought her sword up to block the incoming hit, her tail lashing around to bonk him on the head. “Oh, think you’re clever do ya?”
She Moved to try for a lunge but overstepped, slipping over her own feet and falling head first into her friends gut with a loud oomph. The wooden sword went flying somewhere and those watching began laughing.
“And that’s gonna be out high priestess?” One of the older boys laughed.
“Stick to prayers, and cooking!” Another laughed.
Cho jump up from the ground so fast the boy hadn’t had time to react when the wooden shoe that had once been on Cho’s foot can flying at him, hitting him square in the face. “You wanna say that again!?”
“What’s wrong with you? You freak!?” The first boy shouted, ending up getting him tackled rather violently by Cho causing the two to disappear in a cloud of smoke as Cho began pummeling him and he tried to fend her off.

Ryuji didn't have time to prepare for the unexpected head butt, and he had to take several steps back before he grabbed her shoulders to help steady her. When the teasing began he knew where it was headed before it happened. he rolled his eyes and grinned toward Mari. She did likewise, and they stood back just long enough to let the boy get a few well deserved bruises. Ryuji fished into the dueling duo and pulled out a rather steamy Cho.
Meanwhile Mari tackled and pinned the boy's feet to the ground. It wasn't there first, and definitely not their last fight they had to break up. Mari did a little tickle torture on the boy who had insulted his sister. She may have helped topped the fight, but she did take sides as a sister.
"Alright, I think he got the point my fiery priestess...." Ryuji chuckled. How about we go practice some of your protective spells and let Mari finish the boys off? She's got too much energy anyway...."
Mari indeed looked like she wanted to fight all of them....all at once even. While she was good at not going off, she was just as mad as her sister.

Cho flailed, her arms and legs desperately trying to go for the guy who had angered her, a non-understandable string of words poured from her mouth, the occasional Baka and Kurusai appearing every so often. She continued flailing until she seemed to finally realized she was not breaking loose form her friends grasp.
Finally, she calmed, or more, got to tired to fight, going limp in her friends arms. “Fine. Let’s go back to the temple.” She looked up at her friend, looking much like a big cat being held by a little kid, her tail flickering underneath her, “You’re still bringing sweets tonight right?”

He chuckled at his feisty kitty and ruffled her hair between her ears.
"you bet! I'll even bring your favorite Dango..." He took her by the arm, all gentleman like and escorted her out of the building toward the temple.
"So what are you practicing magic wise at the temple?" He asked curiously.
Mari grinned at the boys now facing her.
"Alright ya bamboo saps! Let's get some real fighting going on." She gestured to some of the particularly offending boys and got into a particularly hard fighting stance. The boy's gulped and looked toward the sensei.
The sensei by now had given up and over to Mari, who needed some good dummies, er practice anyway. He gave a quick point to Mari, indicating for them to fight with her. The boy's groaned and ran at her screaming.
She quickly dropped into a crouch, kicking one out and tripping him on his face. The other she put out her arms to grab his sash and spin him flailing past her. She then jumped up to parry the first boy who was recovering from his fall to launch a fist at her.
"Your gonna have to do better than that!" She called as she danced away to get into a different stance.

Cho pouted slightly as she was ruffled and dragged off all gentle-like. “I’m working on expelling demons from people. But it’s a little hard when there are no possessed people to exercise.”
As they walked out toward her home Cho seemed to calm down more and more. The temple and talk of her duties always seemed to do that. “Father’s two day’s late now, I mean I’ll give him a few more, he’s been a week late before. But still, it worries me a bit. Mari doesn’t show it, but I’m sure it worries her too. Especially with the Dragon festival coming up, he promised to bring us back fireworks from the capitol.”

"Yeah, not too many possessed people...although that fruit seller acts kinda strange.... he charges way too much for his bruised apples...." he grinned at her having fun with her. he liked this town. He had been here almost two years now...in fact in a few weeks it would be the exact date he arrived.
"Hmmm he does tend to be troublesome, that father of yours..... If he get's over a week I'll go look for him if you like." He offered to her. HE liked to travel and wander, and anything for his good friends.
Ryuji stopped in his tracks. He scrunched up his face thinking as the words hit him. He looked like he had gotten a bucket of water to his face.
"Festival? What festival?... i was gone about this time last year, is there a festival going on?"

Then I perform the Dragon ritual. It's supposed to Summon a dragon to bless the town but I don't think I did it right last year, cause nothing happened."
She sighed and looked up at the sky, "Father promised he'd be back for the festival."

"You try to summon a dragon? Isn't that a bit dangerous? the idea disturbed him on multiple levels. He would have made plans to be away, but leaving now would be a bit beyond suspicious. he shook his head lightly wondering at the strange things people seemed to do.
