"Oh um. . thank you," he said rather meekly. He put the money back into his pocket and carefully grabbed the plate. Jean felt small and could feel the man's eyes on him. He went over to one of the tables setting the plate down on it. He then placed his bag on the table as well before he sat down. He took a very small bite and chewed it very slowly. He wanted to wait and see if Kim would show up. He had made to sit so he could look at the windows at the people passing by.

Cael nodded at Jean as he left the front desk and went into the kitchen, he was working on making a cheesecake truffle and they were finished and cooling on a tray. He took the tray and a glass holder and placed the delicate truffles on a pretty circular sheet, placing it on the glass holder with a clear lid on top. He brought it out and placed it on th counter. He called to Jean saying, "Hey try something for me." He took a truffle out for himself and popped into his mouth and sighed in contentment as it melted nicely in his mouth with white chocolate.

Jean turned when his name was spoken. He was surprised but got up and walked toward the man. He wanted to be helpful but wondered if it was okay. He said softly with eager eyes on the truffles, "I-is it really okay?" He heard the sigh the man gave when he ate one and was even more eager to try one now.

Cael nodded and said, "Of course its okay. I am the owner so what I say goes." He took a truffle and placed it on a napkin and gingerly handed it over to Jean. "Tell me if it tastes good." He licks his lips and takes another one.

Jean took it without another word and took a bite of it. If stars could appear in someone's eyes they would have at that moment. Jean couldn't help but get a little giddy smile and devoured what was left. He looked the man and said, "That was really good." There were little remnants on his fingertips so he started licking his fingers to get every little bit off.

"Nothin." She knew she answered a little late but she did not really care. She smiled at him a nice smile and went back to her reading.

About two weeks passed since Kim repeatedly came to Sweet Delights, not necessarily inside but to just check if the beautiful and kind-hearted Jean was inside. Unfortunately there was no sign of the blue haired, golden eyed boy. Kim had been meticulous over the memory of the first time they had met. Had he said something wrong to upset Jean? No wonder he fleed so fast with the look of fear and anxiety in his eyes. Perhaps he had told his parents by now and they had feared the worst for their son. Because, let's face it, Jean was a beautiful boy whom somehow possed so much beauty, elegance and innocence that he nearly resembled the charming qualities of a young girl. Anyone with eyes and a conscience would see that. But if only they'd realize that Kim's pure intentions were to make a good friend, share a friendship he had been deprived of from a young age. From a haunting and elegiac childhood.

"Do you think I was too forward? Maybe I said something wrong? I reckon he fled because he thought I'd trick him with the money I got. Or do you think he thinks of me as one of those 'child kidnappers' who feed children sweets only to use them later on. Do I look like one? Please...I'm going crazy..." Kim had confided to a collegue the same morning, having looked a little too consternated. Of course, his collegue had laughed so manically that Kim's veins strained to the point of wanting to burst. How dare he laugh at such a crucial moment? He was so damn serious! But in the end, he did get to percieve his sudden infatuation and worry over Jean as a little too forward itself. And was indeed cleverly advised not to step over the line or let such thoughts intrude his new friendship. But the second advice he didn't favour so much, especially being told to stay away from Jean was something his mind and heart both didn't seem to accept.

Kim promised himself he wouldn't look for the boy, he promised himself that he'd let fate take its course because his colleague was right. He was too fixated and too worried. And even if he met the boy, he would keep a distance and perhaps be there when Jean needed him.

It was the same afternoon that Kim's sister finally sought him out after all these years and demanded in her sweet way for him to spend a day with her; to fill the void of sadness the death of their mother had left behind. As shocking as it was to see her so far away from home, Kim had agreed. And by some means, they had ended up walking past the same street as Sweet Delights was. That and this same street being the only route Kim took to his studio flat.

"Hmm...that looks delicious!" Kim's sister, Belle, had said having peered her head towards the Sweet Delight's cake display. Kim, having been nervous, had restrained her from going inside but allowed her to link her arm with his and drag him inside for the sake of her happiness.

Kim had stuffed his hands in his black suit trousers once his sister started ordering for a mango sorbet and buscuits and for Kim just coffee as he didn't feel like staying here for long. He felt every bit depressed by the thought and possibility of not being able to see that boy again. And when he turned around, as dashing as he looked with a strand of brown hair hanging over his brow and giving him a rather rakish look, his eyes were however filled with a sudden gush of sadness. But he maintained a smile for his sister which didn't quite reach his eyes yet.

Despite slipping in and out of thoughts about Jean, Kim had managed to keep up with Belle's stories about her engagement, how she couldn't fully be happy without him at her wedding and how everyone else was doing. It was about then Kim finally managed enough courage to lift his eyes from his untouched coffee and notice a familiar petit figure over his sister's shoulder. It was him! And this very gush of happiness seemed to reach his eyes. At last, fate has done him justice. But who was that man he was with? Kim couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. Surely by now Jean would have seen him and would have perhaps waved or greeted him, right? Kim looked at the back of Jean's head, those blue locks he wanted to reach over and run his fingers through. And right at that moment, his heart tossed about uncontrollably. Wishing dearly to fulfil that wish. And his mind had instantly agreed and urged his body upwards. "Excuse me..." He softly whispered to his sister, with an edge of nervousness and stepped behind the blue haired boy.

"Jean?" Kim asked, shocked that his voice was even more calmer than usual.

Jean was enjoying the last bits of the truffle when he heard his name being spoken. He jumped a little and turned around slowly fearful it was Kent. It did not register that it might be Kim since he had not heard nor seen the man when he had entered. His face clearly giving evidence of fear till he saw Kim. It was as if the fear in his face seemed to just melt away and was replaced with a happy and relieved smile.

Jean wanted so badly to hug Kim but with the beating still quite fresh in his mind and on his body, knew it was not a good idea. Being face to face with Kim again made Jean remember just how handsome the man was. Jean got this instant feeling of comfort when he was around the man and now was no different. A faint blush kissed his checks as he thought about Kim.

Still smiling Jean said meekly, "I'm really sorry I haven't been around. I just really wanted to get your shirt finished to pay you back for the cake." Jean was sort of telling the truth but he still didn't like the little white lie. Jean looked down a little ashamed for not being completely honest with his friend and said softly, "I really missed you Kim."

Tanyon looks up from his baking and sees Cael return. He looks to him a moment before going back to his baking. Feels weird around him now and hates it. "He's my boss, nothing else, why am I getting all weird about him and that guy?? He didn't even come back with him... I'm just overthinking things.. at least he came back ok and that guy didn't hurt him..." He thought to himself as he poured the cupcake mix he made into the tray.

Kim gingerly took a step closer to Jean, nearly slipping out of his composure and nearly giving in to the urge of hugging Jean dearly. He just so wished to forever erase that flicker of fear across those innocent and pretty eyes. Thankfully, Jean had spoken and his voice had tugged Kim momentarily into reality.

When Jean mentioned the green shirt, the corner of Kim's mouth twitched up in a warm smile. "You really didn't have to do that..." He whispered, his jaw straining a little due to attempting to rein in his entire happiness over someone being so thoughtful toward him. He promised himself that he shant be too forward.

"It's really nice to see you too." Kim's smile remained until his sister intruded and linked arms with Kim again. Kim's cheeks suddenly turned a shade of pink, his eyes frantically attempting to explain that this was his sister and not a girlfriend or anything. It worried him that he should have to act that way.

"Oh how pretty!" She exclaimed, looming her face closer to Jean and studying the unusual colour of his eyes. "How do you know of her brother? I have never seen you this shy before..." She asked, her gaze returning to her brother whose brows snapped into a frown.

"HIS name is Jean. A-and it's none of your business..." He blushed, retrieving his arm back to himself. She alwawys did this, interfere with his personal life. But for a split second she looked at her brother and sighed, as if they communicated something eventhough Kim didn't attempt to.

"Anyway. I will call you later brother. I am sure my fiancé needs me as we speak. Your niece is quite the trouble maker. See you tomorrow brother." With that said went as far as humiliating Kim by planting a kiss on his cheeks. Which he accepted qith a defeated smile. "Take care..." He whispered as he watched her leave.

Once she was out of earshot, Kim quickly turned his entire attention to Jean. "I...I'm sorry. My sister, she can be very embarrasing. She only mistook you for a girl because..." There went Kim again, crossing that invisible line which meant he had to pour out all of these compliments he wanted to say to Jean.

"S...so how are you Jean?" He managed after a few minutes of silence. What had happened in two weeks and two days for his usual 'cool and collected' self to diffuse into nerves and shiness? Kim didn't know exactly but he felt like he was reliving his childhood again. Especially the part where he continuously hang around his first crush and had managed to say stupid things like: 'you have a delicious hair' or something else too unfathomably stupid.

"I prepared a gift for you too..." He finally managed, scanning those golden eyes frantically as if to suddenly register something, "...of course you don't have to give me anything in return. It's just when I first met you, you made me extremely happy to have allowed me to be your friend." Goodness, he sounded much like some lonely criminal who had it drilled in his mind that he deserved no friend at all and they came so rarely.

He sighed, finally ceasing to speak before he uttered something foolish.

Jean heard a small voice behind him and said quickly in reply wanting to get his attention back on Kim, "Oh no um sorry. You can go ahead."

He turned back to Kim smiling and said, "I wanted to do it. I really like sewing and it was the first time in a long time that I got to make something for a friend. I meant a lot to me to do it for you." He was getting sort of nervous wondering if Kim would even like the shirt at all.

Jean's eyes went wide when a girl bounced up and linked arms with Kim. His face fell a bit and his eye not covered by the eye patch showed a hint of sadness. He tried not to feel disappointment that Kim had a girlfriend. It was only natural that someone as handsome as him would be taken. Then Jean mentally berated himself. What was he thinking?! He had a boyfriend! He felt ashamed that he would even think such a thing as jealousy for Kim when he himself was taken.

He blushed though with embarrassment when she not only thought he was a girl but when he found out they were siblings. He could not help but feel relieved and he gave an awkward smile. He wanted laugh a little when she said that Kim was acting shy but Jean didn't think so. Kim had seemed nothing but confident last time.

Jean felt a little flutter when Kim was so to the point about correcting his sisters mistake and then blushed. He was felt a little bad though when he realized he was happy Kim's sister had to leave. It wasn't that she didn't seem nice but Jean had wanted to be alone with Kim. When she kissed him on the check Jean did not mind at all in fact he was jealous but for a different reason. He himself had always wanted a sibling, a sister even, to dress up and play with.

Once Kim's sister was gone though it seemed he did seem to get a little less comfortable with words. He let out a small giggle and said to him, "It's okay I know I'm small and petite so it's nothing to be sorry about. Besides she seems nice. You're lucky to have a sweet sister. I don't have any siblings."

When he asked how Jean was doing he got a little downcast not wanting to lie but not wanting to tell the truth. He decided on telling as much of the truth as he could by saying, "Um well it's been kind of lonely but I'm okay." He bit his lip wanting to say more and even be comforted by Kim but he knew he couldn't. He looked up though not wanting to dampen the mood and said, "I'm a lot better now though since your here." Now this he really meant.

Jean gave a pout and proclaimed, "That's not fair Kim! I haven't even given you your gift yet. . .and I don't even know if you will like it. It isn't fair that you got me something." He looked at Kim with honest eyes and said softly, "You made me really happy too and you wanted to be my friend. It meant so much and then you even bought me really yummy cake. So every time you give me something I will give you something in return. Friendship is about giving and receiving. I want to do both." He hoped Kim would understand his feelings.

Kim smiled with relieve when the other finished his sentence. The one about how petit Jean was and such. Kim would have said a lot more than that, however. Petit wasn't all that complimentary but it suited the boy. He was far too graceful, far too beautiful and in everyway sincere.

Lonely? Kim didn't like it that Jean felt lonely. Kim was old, twenty five to be exact, and loneliness suited him because he was old enough to cope. But Jean? He didn't think he would and that was exactly why Kim decided to break through his barrier of keeping a distance and really be a good friend. Like he knew he could be. "Ah, thank goodness you don't have siblings. They can be a real pain in the ass." Kim chuckled, finally surfacing through his nerves. He felt obliged to make Jean smile again, and he wanted to see Jean's beautiful and shining smile again-- as selfish as that was.

When Kim recieved the reprimand how it was unfair that he was giving too much, Kim couldn't help but guffaw at the remark. And here he was, thinking he was actually giving too little. "Well, if you really do suppose that is true...I will accept your gift with great joy as no-one had ever handmade anything for me before. But it would still be my turn to give you something else in return." Kim smiled, his eyes holding a sudden glint of amusement. Oh how he was so inclined to feel curious as to what his shirt looked like. He knew it was green. But what type of green? Jean said it'd match his eyes. Kim had never possessed any other colour but white, khaki, light brown and black. He generally stayed away from colourful clothings because of his job-- one had to wear black and white suit whilst performing afterall.

"Do you have it with you?" He finally asked, his eyes faltering and accidentally lingering over Jean's lips. Wrong move, he thought, quickly looking at the girl who had asked if they were in the queue. That was enough distraction to calm him down.

"Still I would liked to have had one," he said in a dreamy sort of voice. He frowned though thinking of his time growing up and said, "But perhaps you are right. . .it's better I don't have any." If he would have had a brother or sister they would have received the same abuse he had from his father. If nothing else he was grateful he did not have sibling simply for that reason.

Jean realized he was being unpleasant again and tried to just focus on Kim so he wouldn't be so down. He was baffled though at Kim's statement about never having received anything handmade before and said, "Really? You've never got anything made by hand for you?" Jean smiled at the thought and said lightly, "So that mean's I'm the very first person to give you something you have never gotten before. I like that."

His eyes went wide a little at Kim's claim about gift order and he thought about it for a moment. "Hmm well I guess you're right. It would be your turn," he said knowing he couldn't get out of this one and that Kim had won. "Okay but nothing too fancy. I would feel bad if you spent a lot of money," he added quickly not wanting his friend to waste his, more than likely, hard earned money on him.

"Oh yes," he said with a start. He turned and started walking to the table. He looked back at Kim saying, "I brought it with me since I didn't know if I would see your or not." Jean grabbed the bag and shuffled his feet a little while he looked at the ground. His voice quiet he said, "I-I I really hope you like it. If you don't please don't pretend you do because I can always make you a new one. . .one you like." He pulled out the gift and said, "I'm sorry it's gift paper from Christmas but it's all we had. I hope you don't mind," He was embarrassed now but there was little he could do about it.

Jean thought about the shirt. It was a mix of modern and Victorian era style. There were no puffy ruffles or anything but it was tailored to hopefully fit Kim. The green was the exact color of his eyes with strips of marble brown cloth with embroidered gold thread that went from the lower sides at an angle up to the chest area. The buttons were also a marble brown with flecks of shimmering green. It had a sort of double collar and no pockets. Jean had wanted to add more but knew his own personal style was a little more flare than most people liked.

Jean waited with eager eyes to see if Kim would like it.

Kim's emerlad eyes lingered over the wrapping cooly when Jean had shyly explained briefly about it and its contents. "I merely care about the wrapping..." He couldn't help but muse, taking that final one step that meant he was so dangerously close to Jean. Why did he have to be so young? He was sure Jean was at least sixteen, he certainly looked it.

"Let's see..." He said, slowly approaching a chair and placing the gift between himself on the table. He had tried so hard to slowly unwrap the gift, but the excitment had gotten over him. And as soon as his eyes marvelled over the fabric and how very perfectly tailored it looked, Kim couldn't help but smile.

"You really made this, huh?" He couldn't help but question as he lifted the shirt by the shoulders, watching it delicately ripple whenever he turned it about to observe everything. This was certainly something so perfect. He had felt like crying but he didn't want to be a bad role model.

"It's beautiful!" Kim had gasped, slipping out of his control and wrapping his strong arms around the other; into a very thankful hug. This really was the best. Kim was already plotting when he'd wear it. It'd have to be somewhere special! He didn't want to have to ruin it by wearing it every other day. "Thank you...it's the best." He added, forgetting that the hug had exceeded a minute. Which was more than his limit.

Jean's eyes were glued to Kim wanting to make sure he could catch any sign of displeasure or disappointment for the garment. He should have been watching for excitement and pleasure but Jean had grown use to looking for negative emotions first and positive ones last.

He took a little breath in when Kim stepped closer to him. He could smell Kim now and that for some reason made him feel a little light headed. His attention, thankfully, was taken off the other man's scent when Kim's excitement started to show making Jean feel less nervous about the gift.

When Kim gave what appeared to be a genuine smile Jean couldn't help but smile as well. "Yes I really made it. I promise," he said hurriedly not wanting Kim to think he had lied and bought the shirt. Jean blushed though when Kim said how beautiful it was. Those simple words made him so happy.

Jean was about to say something when Kim hugged him. Jean let out a gasp of pain as each tender spot screamed in agony. He was not completely healed especially since Kent had continued to hit him around. He let out a little whimper and bit his lip trying to quiet himself. He knew though that Kim had heard and he got scared. What was he going to say now? A tear gathered in the corner of his eye.

Kim let out a soft chuckle that somewhat resembled a sound between a giggle and a smirk. Oh how embarassing. "Thank yo--" He paused mid sentence as he so wanted to adoringly repeat those words until they finally sank in. But a hiss, a gentle one that was more akin to pain. Kim had of course quickly pulled back and grasped the other's arm.

"What is it Jean? Did I hurt you...? I stepped on you didn't I?" Kim frowned, the thought of having hurt the boy already going to his head like bubbles from a champagne and making him all dizzy. Instead of backing away at this moment, he found that he needed to reassure the boy and apologize.

"I am so sorry..." He whispered, beating himself mentally for not being careful towards such a fragile and delicate boy. At this point, his hands slowly reached to the other's face, stroking those warm cheeks gently. "...I didn't mean to." He added, suddenly noticing the tears in Jean's eyes. Gosh, Kim was really born to make people cry wasn't he?

"Jean..." Kim's voice had a twinge of pain on its own, and something else entirely unfamiliar even to himself. Something like care and love, as if this was his own child that was crying. "...I really am sorry. I promise to be careful the next time."

The next time? What was he saying. For all he knew hugging would certainly be off limits. Ah gosh Kim, this is what happens when you cross the line. You hurt people.

Jean felt horrible when Kim jumped to the conclusion that the pain had been caused by him. It wasn't Kim's fault Kent beat him. . .it was his own fault. He felt so ashamed that he would ever make Kim feel like he had hurt him.

Quickly Jean said softly, "N-no you didn't step on me." He was in a panic inside searching and grasping for the right thing to say. Suddenly he felt Kim's finger's on his cheek and Jean broke. That simple act of gentle contact was so. . so . . so comforting. His tears could not be held back as he started to cry. It was a mix of feelings that brought the tears. He was happy, sad, scared, panicked and nervous.

He looked at Kim amid his tears, "It isn't your fault Kim. I - I - I um. . . I fell down the other day and hurt myself. . ." he paused his mind working frantically to keep up with what was falling out of his mouth, "and. . .and . it still hurts is all." It was by far the worst lie he had ever told and instantly he felt guilt for lying. He hated himself. He hated himself for getting beaten, for lying to his only friend and for being worthless. He hung his head not knowing what to say anymore. As he hung his head he had forgotten about the bruise he had been hiding with his collar and hair. The bruise was now showing without him knowing.

Kim felt a sense of guilt still. He had hurt the boy no matter, why else would he be crying? He should have been careful. The hug he gave to Jean was rather too sudden, too tight. With a soft sigh, Kim looked slightly up at Jean from where he sat, his trained eyes quickly registering several bruises already. Others would have settled for hickey but no hickey turned out to be that huge and that dark. Jean didn't really fall did he? How many other bruises were there on Jean's body. Kim felt so unsure all of a sudden and his eyes quickly flickered back to those watery and wandering eyes.

At that point, Kim slowly released the other with a look of betrayal registered on his soft contours. He didn't want to demand an answer, there was a reason why Jean didn't tell him. And he shall respect that. And at this point, Jean needed him more than he himself needed Jean.

"I shall take your word for it..." He slowly encouraged a smile to play across his face. Besides, he was merely a stranger. He can't just expect Jean to tell him everything. That would be entirely selfish.

"How about a cake? You'd be surprised what sort of wound it heals..." He urged, quickly standing up and pulling a chair for Jean so that he could sit on it. "...however, you have to smile in order to get a cake. Otherwise..." He drawled, his emerland eyes softly caressing the other's wound on his neck. He really hoped Jean would trust him enough to confide in him in time.

Jean was surprised when Kim said he would believe him. It sounded off though. Jean wondered if the man knew he was lying but was willing to just ignore the fact. Kim did not seem stupid and even Jean knew his lie had been horrible. Jean felt a gush of warmth for Kim that he would know he was lying and still not press the issue. At the same time it made him feel worse about himself.

When Kim mentioned cake Jean just sort of stood there stupidly. It seemed like a subject so far from the realm his mind was in. He saw Kim's smile though and was able to focus. He plopped down in the chair deciding to go for obedience and looked up at Kim.

He let out a small giggle when he mentioned smiling for cake. He wiped his tears away with his shirt sleeve and gave a weak little smile. "Cake might be good," he said in a little voice.

The man across the street had picked his spot well. He was good at finding quick hiding spots since his job required it.

This job he had gotten a few days ago was finally turning into something fruitful. He hadn't been able to follow the kid since the client kept such a tight leash on him. Luckily though as soon as the kid had gotten some freedom he went straight to his side dish. He was glad he had got the jackpot so soon.

He had got a lot of nice shots too. The kid giving the man a gift. The man hugging the kid and even caressing his cheek. Oh yes his client would be happy and would have to fork over the rest of the money.

The man put his camera away and got up leaving just as a crowd of people passed by.

"Wrong. Cake would be excellent at this moment." Kim smiled, slowly reaching for his wallet. He thought about it for a long while before he pulled out his business car with its address, his phone and mobile number and e-mail. He slowly crouched next to the boy, keeping a far enough distance for the other's comfort.

"Jean..." He smiled, "...I hope I am not being too forward but...I want you to have my number. In case you feel the need to be lend an ear. Or if you feel lonely. You can contact me whichever way. Alright?" Kim slowly handed the card to Jean, oblivious at this moment that a camera shutter was capturing their every move.

He wondered when that day would come that Jean would confide in him. He hoped really soon because he wasn't sure if he'd remain as calm as he was now. "Right! What flavour is it you like?"

Jean couldn't help but really smile at that comment. "Yeah excellent," he said will a small giggle. He couldn't help but want to take in any bit of happiness or comfort Kim would give him. Jean was feeling a little better and knew that Kim was a great friend for looking over the lie.

He watched as Kim crouched down and spoke. Jean whispered an, "Alright." He took the card and sort of looked at it before putting it in his pocket. He did not say anything but he would have to extremely careful with this. If anything the moment Kim wasn't looking he might throw it away. If Kent ever found it he would go after Kim. The last thing Jean wanted was Kim hurt. He was use to getting beaten so he didn't mind so much if it was himself, but not Kim.

As he thought about it he was pretty sure that Kim had some kind of idea what was really going on but was being polite in not bringing it up. Jean couldn't believe had found such a great friend.

He looked back up at Kim and said, "I like most sweets so you can make it a surprise." He tried to smile but it was a weak one. He glanced down to the floor and said very softly, "T-t-thank you Kim. . .for. . .for being such a good friend to me." He hoped Kim knew how much he meant it.

Kent heard the phone ring and answered it quickly shouting, "Jean where the hell are you!"

The man replied, "It's not the kid it's me, Bob. I got some pictures you would be very interested in seeing."

Kent's eyes brimmed with anger as he said coldly, "So he is with another man then?" More of a statement than a question.

"Oh yeah. I'll bring the pictures same time and place tomorrow. You bring the money k," the man said getting to the point.

"Fine I'll be there," Kent said with venom and slammed the phone down. He sat and plotted what to do with his boyfriend.

Kim was so glad that at least Jean was smiling a little. He wanted to make up for the two weeks and two days they didn't see each other. Far from that, he wanted to fill that loneliness and pain. But he knew that took time, which he was willing to sacrafice.

"Alright then...I will get two strawberry cheese cake as it is my favourite." Kim said politely, quickly slipping to the counter and paying with a cheque. The man behind the counter said something about how he got the same sort of cheque a few weeks ago and how gratified he was that he could afford the rent. Kim nodded, graciously tipping the man. What a thankful fella.

"Here you go..." Kim's voice drawled almost lovingly as he placed the plate of cake in front of Jean, also holding out for him to take one of the forks he held in his hand. "Thank you for giving me the chance to be your good friend." He smiled, his reply just as geniuine and meaningful.

"Now...bon apetit..." The green eyed smiled, having been religious thanking the higher power for giving him food and started digging into it.

{{ Yeah, if it suits you. And Kim can all be like: Since Jean loves him I can't hit Kent and ends up taking a heck of a beating. }}
