I looked around and didn't see a thread for grad students -- probably because there aren't that many? -- so I'm starting my own.
In a graduate program? Thinking of graduate school? All But Dissertation? Dissertationing? (yes, it's a verb!) Studying for Comps or Quals? Then here's the place to complain, bemoan, and whine. It's also the place to celebrate achievements ("I filed my dissertation!" "I passed quals!" "I got through an entire discussion section today without wanting to kill Mr. Smartypants Undergrad!") and come for support.
Go ahead, introduce yourself with as much or as little information as you like:
Name: anime_scholar
Department/Major: Musicology
Place/Years in Program: third year, plan to be ABD by the end of this year
Dissertation Title/Topic: something about anime soundtracks? Maybe the pentatonic scale and exoticism? Maybe Miyazaki films and Joe Hisaishi?
Something More?:I feel very lucky that my program is really flexible and understanding; we're treated like very junior colleagues, address our professors with first names, and have an immense amount of trust placed in us. But at the same time, the department's recently lost several senior faculty who, for personal reasons, are upset with the way the department's been going. I'm not sure how our school's reputation will weather these changes.
