Okay well a few weeks ago I was in downtown Toronto, Canada with my friends[[obviously supervised seeing as we're a group of girls who are all 14]]. Well here in Canada when you go to Toronto you see alot of homeless people a.k.a Hobo's, and we were walking and talking when we saw an old homeless man sitting out side he was minding his own business and he was pretty much happy out side. Then these 16-18 year old come up to him[[there was about 5 of them]] and they started harassing the poor old guy and saying shit like; Oh look at him, hes so pathetic eh? No wonder hes out on the street and shit like that. The hobo pretty much ignored them and when they saw it wasn't working they just decided to leave but before they left one of the guys spit on him and the other one threw skittles at him. I was like...wow..bit*ches much? I was in total shock!

I mean sure people give them dirty looks and all though I'm not saying that is fine but that's better than being spat at right? But I mean I was totally flabbergasted! I was staring at them wide eyed. I was thinking how people are so much more in humane people these days and so inconsiderate! Have you ever seen something like that? Something that shocked the wit out of you?

Discuss;

Rudeness
Shock
Inconsiderate and in humane

What the hell? Seriously? Those kids need to get smacked. I'm 18, and man, I'd be to afraid to do anything like that for fear my mom would find out. Thats just plain rude. No if ands or buts!

Yeah, I know...those kids needed some sense. I felt horrible after I walked by the poor guy. I was all like...awww, I wish I could hug you and say sorry for what they did, but my friends older brother was their and he would probably tell my parents. And my parents have this strict rule against talking or coming in contact with another stranger.

A lot of people (like those teens) don't think; they think their actions will never have consequences.
The sad part about that is the poor man was probably so downtrodden already, their words and behavior were just like adding a few more pebbles to a wagonload of boulders.

But personally? It disgusts me how people can act that way...
We're all the same species. Even animals, if they come across a wounded member of the same species, and it is a different 'pack' will help if they can.
But they also know when it's useless...

Thats true, I mean some of my own friends are sometimes heartless like that and I ask them how the hell can they be so cold! I mean, its so disappointing, the way we were and now the way we are. It saddens me sometimes!

I've witnessed something similar as well in Edinburgh.

Except she was alone, pretending to kick him and what not, yell at him.
The weirdest though was that she let him have a drink of her coke cola before she left. Like wtf?! She makes up with her horrid behaviour with an act of kindness?

What the hell? If I were the homeless I would have a) spit in her drink then yell abuse really loud or b) I would take the coke spill it ALL over her and then kick HER while she was too busy cleaning herself up >___> I mean honestly..people these days seem to have less common sense than a monkey >___>

Extremely rude. D=

I've spent some time in Toronto, helping with the homeless problem, and I can tell you that a lot of the time the reason they're homeless has nothing to do with them being "pathetic." People get down on their luck, some of them have mental problems and couldn't afford medication, some of them are runnaways. And some of them actually prefer not having a house. They feel that it frees them from a lot of responsibilities associated with being a homeowner: electric, water, gas.

Also, you can make a living off of begging. There was a beggar in my hometown who suddenly disappeared one day. We were wondering where he went, and then a few months later we saw him in a nice suit. He'd bought a house. =D

That's really horrible. Those teenagers most likely don't understand why these people are homeless. They think just because they have no place to live that they are less of a person and that the same rights don't apply to them. They probably see the homeless people as an easy target to pick on and look 'cool' for doing so. Especially because the homeless people don't fight back from the abuse.

I really do think humans these days have less and less common sense. They don't treat others with any respect. They don't care for the environment or stop to think. When I was at the zoo I was disgusted at the stupid humans there. They were throwing chewy sweets to monkeys and giving muffins to them too. I mean, those monkeys are from the wild! Do they think our junk food is good for them? They'll go eat it, along with the wrapper and be sick and get ill. How can they be so insensitive? So I wrote before going out of the zoo on the sheets they give you to say what you liked/didn't like/suggest for the zoo, that they should put the humans in the zoo. Humans treat animals like dirt, and now humans treat humans like dirt. I can't believe they have the nerve to act like that. >.<

That's absolutely unforgivable. But I have to wonder what their families are like, for them to consider that behavior even remotely acceptable. I haven't seen anything that bad, personally, but I make a point to stand up for people whenever its needed. I don't care if its public or not, if I see someone being picked on, I've got their back. The why's and wherefore's don't matter. I think the only way the world will get better is if people start standing up for their values again.

MINDBLOW. Seriously?! That's... incredible! :insane:

Now now, in my country, the children you see on the streets aren't homeless, they do have a "house" in shantytowns, but they beg to pay their mothers and their "guardians", women of other ethnicity watching over them. And hell do they get well-paid! Most get at least $20 daily, which is enough for 22 decent meals 8D;;

Now, going back to the issue of "inhumane" people [I actually think the word should have the total opposite in meaning x_x] I think these guys most likely come from awful, uncaring families. Otherwise, they wouldn't act as if that were a normal everyday thing. They need some mental help, seriously >__>

This is shockingly rude. I could see a negative reaction iif the homeless person was being a threat or a nusense.
Makes you wish one of these teens were to become homeless one day to see how it feels like.

The thing is, a lot of homeless people can actually sustain for themselves. They aren't "poor" in the sense that they don't have money, though that can be the case. Some people just can't live with others or have a mental illness. There was a story published a while ago about a millionare who lived on the streets, and then he would go home at night to sleep in his mansion.
On to the topic of the kids now. I feel sorry for them more than the homeless guy, because he more likely than not doesn't have a choice. The teens on the other hand will never learn how to be decent people, likely they're so spoiled that once their parents die they'll be the ones living on the streets.

Ugh, that's horrible...

At one point, my family and I were browsing through a restaurant only to find a man unconscious in the giftshop area. My cousin and I were really worried because, upon further inspection, his chest wasn't moving. So we tell the store managers, and they go outside the place to look. They come back in, we try to show them the man, and they completely brush us off. My parents kept trying to tell me, "Oh, it was just some random homeless guy who probably had too much to drink." Even so, he most likely needed medical attention. I ended up crying for that guy later that night. I felt awful because no-one seemed to care at all.

And for the people who looked at my post and said, "
Too Long; Didn't Read," please at least skim through my story. Thanks.

The teens just think they are on top of the world, they are selfish little pricks that don't know what respect and sympathy is. They were most likely raised with their parents not giving a crap and now they dont give a crap about what they do to the people around them. It's quite sad what our future is if they acted like that. >.<
Btw.... I'm 16. And those KIDS, and I say that because their maturity level was wayyyyyy lower than a 14 year olds, just need to find something better to do with their own lives, humanity is in trouble when they are the mass work force.

Now, that really gets to me.
It really does...
Even if that guy had a history of being an attention-desperate troublemaker, he still deserves the respect and dignity humans demand of themselves.
If this keeps up... well, let's just say 2012 WILL be the end; the end of humanity even pretending it cares about anyone but itself! >_<
Let's band together and fight back! Just like Vash the Stampede from Trigun; "Love and Peace!"

Sickening. But there are some teenagers who think that it is cool to harass/beat up homeless people and get away with it.

The sad truth is.. that the cost of living is just a little too high for some people. And for others to do that to a homeless person is absolutely revolting. :/

People are rotten

I would have told them all to piss off. I don't see a lot of that stuff in Edmonton, but sometimes things like that happen.

I was on a bus once, and it was a school special public transit bus. So most of the people on it were kids from my school, but this older lady got on and then she got off, but right when the door was about to close on her, she rushed back in, screaming, and slapped one of the girls!

Then she started screaming obscenities and nobody was saying anything. So I stood up and was like, "I've seen enough, get off the bus now." And she was all, "What are you going to do about it?" kind of thing, but as soon as I had said something, the bus driver and several guys got up and got her to leave.

So next time you see something like that happen, instead of watching it unfold, speak up. It's just as if you spit on the guy too.

I live in downtown T.O. and I see this kind of stuff everyday.

It's sad. It's disgusting. In the end however, it's no different from a bully in a schoolyard picking on a victim. Bullies will be bullies, and victims quite often never stand up themselves. You can blame it on how they were raised, lack of authority or whatnot.

I once watched a woman covered in quilts watch as her cardboard 'home' got kicked and flattened by a few drunk 20-something guys. I was on the streetcar, there wasn't anything I could personally do. I had to watch the whole thing through the window. The man I was standing next to me. He made a comment. "Shameful..." or something like that.

Unless someone is prepared to intervene ... this stuff will continue to happen.

Kids are jerks these days...

Oh hell, those dudes are seriously gonna receive retribution as a return for their stupid and foolish actions... I mean, really, who on earth would do such a thing? They're only asking for attention, and trying to act cool.... and I thought this was only done by school kids! Yet, these 'goondus' you mentioned here are still acting like children themselves.

I hope they get punished. Justice must be done, for the sake of the hobo too. Poor fella.
