Oh thread, how I have neglected you. xD
I didn't think it would get this far. 8D
Everyones story had made me lol, but for those few This is not about them "learning" the language, it's about them abusing it. Not bothering to actually, correctly learn it. It's not about the hobby either, it's about childish antics where you assume that you know what you're talking about.
@ JadeXHime - Asian men who have a heavy accent, and don't speak english well are so cute. They try so hard, and fail so miserably. Q__Q Just want to love them for their effort! (assuming they made effort)
Did you use your, "STFU-JUTSU" on him? Which consists of, punches to the face, and kicks to the groin. :3

Heh, I live in Singapore where everyone is asian anyway and in my school (and some other schools) people are allowed to take third language- French, German or Japanese. Some people, especially those who watch anime or read manga, take Japanese but I don't even though I like anime and manga (big mistake not to take it) so sometimes I find like I'm the one being the "weeaboo" though obviously I don't do the things that you mentioned. When I do meet people who actually type like that or talk like that though, it makes me want to slap them ):
Once I was watching Detroit Metal City at the cinema with my friends and there was this annoying fangirl behind me who kept screeching at every scene. At one scene a cat was walking past and she screamed "oh, KAWAII NEKO!" I was like durgh.

Just reading off that list to myself annoyed me. How can someone be that... dense?
I can honestly say that I've never had a run-in with any extreme fans like that (in real life, anyway).
Closest to that would be at the mall.
About a month back I went into a japanese based store called "Zen Garden". It's basically a weeaboo's wet dream. I had given the owner some of my old manga I didn't want anymore, to see if he could sell it. So I'm checking in, seeing how the sale was coming along, only to learn that the owner wasn't in that day. No biggie. So I looked around for a bit. And, I swear, the chicks sitting in there were annoying as hell. One was on her cell phone. And from time to time she'd randomly shriek like a hellbat about something of irrelevance. I've never wanted to smack someone that badly for quite a long time. D:
And then there were the kids who'd bring their manga to school. And I don't mean just one book. I'm talking a backpack full. Like they were a necessity. It was... absurd.

I am Japanese myself, I was really just seeing it someone here spoke it, guess not. It's a generic reply of me saying "They annoy me...I at least try to ignore them." That's the jist of it. I'll speak English now since it would seem no one here knows it.

it only shows up as the kenji on my end. i've learned to recognize some characters but not very many at all. if it had been in romanji i could have figured it out. i'm a little better at it. but then i'm also still trying to learn the spoken form.

The only place where you're allowed to speak other languages is in the Menewsha Nation forum where the hangouts are. Everywhere else you're required to speak English.

I can't speak Japanese and I like to watch English dub anime. I hate Naruto and Bleach... I prefer old anime like Slayers and Magical Knights of Rayearth. The only reason I like English dub is because it pisses me off when the subtitle are lagging behind on what the people are saying. I know the difference between Japan and China. I don't think of Asians as midgets or Lolita... and personally i don't like yaoi or yuri... Japanese are actually very good at speaking English. I don't like sushi... but I do like pocky. I like saying Nya... but only cause it pisses people off and I think it sounds cute... I respect their culture and I love how they are so tolerable of how most Americans treat them.

oh, I used to be one of those, but not nearly as annoying. I never threw in Japanese words when I was talking and I knew the difference between Yaoi and Yuri. And I read a lot of different manga, not only like Bleach or Naruto or Inuyasha. (Although Inuyasha was my first!) I also overused emoticons SO MUCH. It was a problem. I couldn't express myself without attaching a FACE to the sentence... erghh. But yeah, now I see other people like that. It doesn't REALLY bother me that much, I mean people can do what they want, but it's true it gets irritating when its krazy.

That's cool! I was able to pick it apart and do a rough translation. I use to study it, but years ago. And I only know pretty basic stuff. ^^;;
Do you get a lot of foreigners who come over there and are annoying in that matter?
Retro - I guess I was "kind" of like what is being described. I was really into Japanese culture and probably went a bit overboard. I wanted to decorate my room in Japanese stuff and I spent a lot of time playing videogames and watching anime. I went to Japanese club, held Japanese Anime parties...yah you get the picture. I never used Japanese language in speech, unless it was on an anime chatroom online and then we use to greet each with Japanese phrases. We were amongst each other so I didn't think it was too obnoxious...

I guess you could say that i was one of those kind of people and in a way i still am but the only phrases i ever said were "Hai hai chii-su suki desu, yatta!" ((yes yes i like cheese horray)) and something else along the lines of crazy squirrels...??? o.O
I've never actually cosplayed but i've been to an anime convention with some friends and a few of them cosplayed. One of my friends did cosplay as Garra ((not sure on spelling, never been one for naruto)) and he was perfect for the part. I mean we got rid of his eyebrows and everything. twas fun.
But the only friend that i've had that acted so much like that description was a small asian chick my senior year in high school. She is the spitting image of that description. But on the other hand, she did do her research and she was born and raised in Japan for a number of years. But man, she could get annoying every once in a while...

I have a friend that sort of like that. But she's open to all love anime, and any funny mangas. Of course I'm like her in this aspect (but less love and more comedy/action). Sometimes we say japanese words that are easy to remember and try putting them in a sentence.
We live in Seoul and think that the only people who cosplay are those people at cosplay conventions. Americans cosplay too, but only a little less than japanese teens(who are the only ones who cosplay!!). California rolls are nice, but sushi isn't only healthier but also tastes good too.
Jap men are hard working, that includes a lot of the adult ages and some teenage years as well. If all japenese men were perverted there wouldn't be any with wives, now would there? Plus, Jap women actually look more mature than you think, whereas the Koreans over here are the ones look more cutie-like (maybe just teenage years, though). Yaoi and Yuri are off limits, 100%. It's just not our cup of tea, and we ARE still pretty young.
The japanese are as much capable of speaking English as anyone else. It's sort of disturbing to think that they can't just because of anime or manga. They don't even read manga too often or waste time watching anime. Namely all the more popular anime (One Piece, Bleach, FMA, CCS, Shugo Chara, etc.) are probably for the younger people. Manga is sort of a thing to read with extra time from the subway and such.
It should be common to assume the best way to learn a language by movies is to have the original voices with subtitles, but it isn't. Along with that you get the best voices possible for the characters too! ;L
Once again the post is long TT.TT

Oh i know many people like this lol. I studied Japanese at school and was very lucky to go to japan twice with school as well. it was almost a burden as i realized just how many people really have no idea what they're talking about when they speak of anime, manga and j-rock/ visual kei culture T__T Alas, i am glad that i know I'm not one of them lol They usually think that names in anime are real Japanese names also... quite often they're not... like spongebob isn't a real name and neither is mr fluffykins >_> though mind you with people calling they're children Sunday and apple they soon might be lol

I have met a few people like that before and I have also had discussions with some of my Japanese friends on the topic in the past as well. At first I was quite surprised to hear that they (I stress by they I refer only to my friends and not Japanese peoples as a whole) were quite pleased to meet people like this. They tried to explain to me that people taking an interest in their culture made them feel more welcome in New Zealand as international students.
Although after coming across a few people who have acted the same towards New Zealand (granted to a different degree), I must admit I found it quite pleasing to meet people who were passionate about elements of New Zealand. I took it as quite a compliment, even though their perception of New Zealand was a little removed from reality.

Surprisingly, people speaking random, conversationally inappropriate phrases of Japanese doesn't bother me a bit.
Unless it's really repetitive (IE: DESU DESU DESU DESU) or they're all in-your-face about it. Then I get ticked.
Now, what that really bothers me is when in a roleplay, everyone has a Japanese name even though they're WHITE and the roleplay is in a decidedly non-Japanese setting.

Lol where did they say that China was part of Japan? From what I read this was an example of what their friend said/believed.

Why does that bother you? My gf is not Chinese, but she has a Chinese name (granted she is learning Chinese and her lecturer assigned it to her). Although it is not just her, but I have met plenty of international students, who choose to have names in English.

Oh gosh, I really hate people like this. Well, not hate, but strongly dislike their actions and views. It's like, if you're going to be interested in something, KNOW about it. I'm was born in American, therefore I'm naturally an American, but I have ancestors of other races (Japanese, French, German, etc). I don't mainly embrace the Japanese culture because it's in my blood, but rather because I find the culture intensely amazing. The thing is, that can go for any culture really. I'm open-minded to different nationalities, cultures, traditions from mine and it's fascinating to learn about different things. I think it's okay to take things and put a little of America into it, but it's not okay to take one thing and make it so Americanized that it's nothing like it was before.
Thankfully I'm taking Japanese class (jap 2!) and I actually go out and actively participate in things. For example - the lolita thing. I'm a raver at heart, but Decora Lolita fashion interests me, so whenever I dress, I think "what would a decora lolita raver wear?" or similar questions. I don't just go to bookstores, read manga and then leave not buying anything, and claim I'm a hardcore anime/manga/Japanese culture kid - that's ridiculous and silly.
