You know what? Anything's possible. I'm really going with "super close best friends" because the thought of puppets having sex is incredibly awkward.

Just kidding. They totally were.

Have you heard of Avenue Q? It's pretty much an adult muppets musical and they totally have puppet sex! It's a great musical. The songs are pretty addictive. They have Bert and Ernie-like characters and one of them is gay. XD

Avenue Q is probably the greatest politically incorrect large-scaled performance there is.

On a side note did someone say yaoi?

I really loved Avenue Q. The songs are awesome.

Yes, you may have heard us mention yaoi in here, being a boy love thread and all :D

Ahh, then I have stumbled upon a place where I will find great kinship. I'll admit that my first experience of yaoi was...unwilling to say the least, but as my rather insane and inane friends insisted and forced me to watch and read more and more, I realized that it wasn't so bad.

Now, I'm from a very VERY conservative family that is based in Texas, so I've grown up with the Christian ideal that same-sex relations are rather bad. As I started looking up yaoi, mostly searching for smut, I came across the random story that was about nothing but love...and I sort of came into the realization that it was alright for you to love someone of the same sex, hell, it was alright for you to only lust someone of the same sex. We're all equal, and if we're in an age where skin color, religious belief, and nationality can be overlooked for the person that's inside, why shouldn't the same open-mindedness be applied to a person's sexual orientations.

That and anime guys are VERY pretty ;)

Well that's not the best way to come across yaoi. I'm kind of surprised you didn't just run away. I stumbled across it naturally on my own and I instantly was fascinated. I can't say that I ever really had a prejudice against anybody. I was always so damn naive XD So when I really learned about gay people, it never struck me that it should be wrong. My parents had never told me it was. I didn't have any of those sort of barriers to get over. And though I was too naive to realize it, I have gay relatives on both sides of the family. I have a great aunt who is a lesbian on one side of the family and a great uncle who was gay and lived with his partner for years and years. He was the sweetest man.

So in my blissful little world, love was always love and nothing disabused me of this notion. And today, slashy stuff is one of my biggest hobbies. I write it, I read it, I really just enjoy it. It's ironic really that I hate traditional romances, but really love a slashy love story.

I would have loved to have been raised in such an open-minded family situation. We have never had anyone in my family tell us that they were lovers of the same sex.

Yanno, I wouldn't really say that it was an open minded family such as it was a state of ignorant bliss. My father worked off shore on oil rigs mostly and my mom was the parent at home and she's pretty crazy. There wasn't really any prejudice to absorb.

My relatives, I wouldn't really call them out either. My great aunt had "a roommate" and my great uncle lived with his "friend". My great uncle was very old school about that, very low key. He and his lover had served in WW2 together. The stories only become clearer as you get older and wiser you know. As you grow, the adults let things slip, you get more observant, get more information.

Either way, I don't think my family is responsible for my love of all things slashy. My mother thinks it's weird and likes to "forget" that it's an interest of mine. Not like I discuss it with her. But I let her know a few years ago. Even let her read some of my fanfiction.

My best friend has been obsessed with yaoi since before Jr. High so once I was broken in to the idea, she helped develop my tastes. I have found I have a certain draw to hard and almost unconsentual love between men, not boys. And I especially like when they actually look like dudes, not girls with no chest and a penis.

Being as I'm older than most of the people running around here and the internet as we know it didn't exist when I was your age, I was all properly grown up and able to ease into things at my own pace with no residual traumas from overzealous friends XD I really need to stop making myself sound like I'm 80. XD

Anyway, I prefer men in my stories/manga/whatever and non-con rape is a total turn off. Although, honestly I find that there is a strange fascination for younger fans, one that I've noticed they tend to grow out of. I run a yaoi guild on Gaia and it's the funniest thing. People will start threads on certain manga with non-con or whatever in it and talk about how it's such an awesome manga! Then a year or two later they'll poke at their own threads and go "OMG! Why did I like that?!" It always gives me a good giggle.

It's also frustrated me over the years that there's so much non-con in yaoi manga and then people lock onto that and write it in fanfiction and sort of get this rose colored outlook on the subject. It just bugs me. I'd really prefer consenting adults mutually pleasuring each other.

I can't stand rape of any sort, but I have always had a strange fascination with man/man domination. There's just something about macho guys who in normal stories would be all big and chauvinistic around their women but when put into a yaoi, have no choice but to submit to another male. I guess it's because I'm a non-combative feminist, but I find myself drawn to pairings, het and slash, where conventional relationship status is reversed, an example being like when a woman ties up her man and has her way with her or the same situation with two males. It's just one of my many strange quirks.

@Hippie - I know people like to refer to it as non-con, but for me, most of that stuff is just rape people are trying to pass off as being "hot" or whatever. But if someone's chanting no the whole time while someone else is telling them their body likes it, that's just not cool. Rape is rape.

I know women have a lot of reasons for reading male/male stories, but my reason is just that I think it's pretty damn hot. I admit, kind of shallow, but it is and I love to see their stories play out too. I guess no matter how much I fight it I'm just a romantic at heart. But don't tell anybody XD

@Hippie and zumbie - I do like assertive women. Women on top are also awesome. It's good that you can enjoy women, considering that there's this big set of slash fans that seem to hate females. So strange.

@Pexiloo - ....what?

You know, I'm actually surprised that this thread isn't more popular. I know there's quite a few people in the BL interest group here, not to mention the hundreds of yaoi role plays going on in the RP forum. So where are all the people that want to talk about it? Plus, it's multipurpose. Boy Love AND Girl Love!

Where is everybody? D:

Because nobody knows what Boys' Love and Girls' Love mean. D: The terms aren't quite as common as yaoi and yuri. Do you know how I can edit the thread title?

That's depressing. Seriously. How can people claim to be into this stuff if they don't even know the proper names? Ugh! Pet peeve, pet peeve, pet peeve! *is quite peeved*

Anyway, just edit your first post in advanced mode.
