I'd have to say there is no age limit, especially if your doing something you enjoy. :)

Very good point! Explains it quite nicely :)

I think as long as you can be mature and respectful it does not truly matter what your age is. I just turned 22 last week and I greatly enjoy myself on sites such as these. But then again there are of course those people who decide to be disrespectful (and sometimes downright) creepy, but unfortunately there is no age restriction on Creepy. LOL.

Meh, I'm 19 an online and in real life everyone thinks I'm 14-16 anyway! And I act it sooooo, I'm not too old. And I don't think you can get too old as long as you can relate to the kids on here, like if you start talking about the great depression or whatever we won't care! But everyone on here is right

In my opinion, I dont think there should be an age limit to join Mene or any other online communities, whether they include avatars or not!
My Dad, thinks that I'm lifeless for joining such sites, when I consider them awesome!!! Even other games, for example on facebook... I mean, they were created for others to fill their spare time with fun, right?!

Though its become some sort of an "obsession", it's still much better than sitting around, not doing anything! It could also, be a source of distraction though... but in some cases, it's good, especially if someone's under alot of stress, you know?!

Whatever age that you happen to stop enjoying sites like that, be that 20 or 80, there should be no age limits to sites like these, well, apart from the 13 or older limit of course. Other than that it's up to each individual person.

Well, I don't think it's a completely unfounded issue. If you found a man in his fifties hanging out with a bunch of teenagers irl, you'd have to kind of stop and think, ...and try not to judge. Maybe he's a pedophile? Or an uncle? The majority of people on avatar sites tend to be young, and although older people have as much of a right to be on Mene, when they are, there is an age gap between them and the majority of the other members. And you can't ignore that. The age gap includes years of life experience and maturity that you can't expect younger people to have. And so it's seen as odd when older people are on avatar sites.
It's not like you always have to socialise with those your age, but there is a reason why people do.

avatar sites can still interest anyone at any age. However, to many in society, this is a disturbing thought as these sites are full of teenagers. I don't think there's an age that makes someone too old for these sites. But I do find it kind of weird when I see parent and child on the same site. I guess I am jsut not used to this kind of parent to child interaction

I don't think you can be too old, just as long as you're not flirting with the young-uns
Though at 40+ you should be spending more time with your family and not strangers on a forum.
So my verdict is- You're never too old for an avatar site as long as it doesn't rule your life and is just something to have fun with in your free time.
You could probably keep in better touch with your child (if the person has one) if you both go on the same or similar forum sites.
You can keep up with the newest slang, know what's considered cool to kids and teenagers. ect.
I would agree with this. It's okay for older generations to come on sites like this as long as they aren't over obsessive or they're not a creeper (i.e. pretending to be 20, etc.) Primarily, these sites are mostly designed for teenagers and twenty-year-olds, but I think it's okay for users to be a little over the age preference. I mostly like sites like this just to chat with other people and dress up a cute little avatar. I really like the events, and games, and it's fun to design outfits. As long as it doesn't run your life, like you mentioned, it's probably okay to come on here to have fun every once in a while.

I was actually genuinely shocked the first time I saw someone on Gaia call someone a "pervert" for being over 20 and on the site! I was confused about how just being there, without doing anything creepy, would make someone a pervert. I think it was directed at my male friend who is one year younger than me, and would have been about 23 at the time.

I think there probably is a double standard in the way people would see the different genders...
There is a lot of emphasis in the media about sexual predators online, and a stronger emphasis in general on male predators. Additionally the different values society places on men and women as they get older probably make people think it's weirder for a man who is 30+ to be on a site like this than a woman of any age. I've seen women in their 70's in message boards on casual gaming sites, which aren't that far removed from sites like these.

I personally see no problem with anyone of any age and gender being on avatar site as long as they aren't preying on minors, acting inappropriately or pretending to be a different person (outside of RP).

You're too old to be on an avatar site when you're dead.

but seriously my dad is 54 and he's on Gaia, AND neopets. my step mom is like 2 years younger than him and on both of those sites as well. It's something our entire family have in common.

So long as someone isnt being perverted it doesnt matter how old they are.
I, myself, am 24 years old.

I don't really think that is should matter. I'm enjoying this side and I'm 25 with a 15 month old son. As long as you are enjoying yourself then it really should not matter. At least that is what I feel. Your mileage may differ.

It's not like you always have to socialise with those your age, but there is a reason why people do.
The only reason is the common misconception that experience and maturity have anything to do with age. A 30-year-old that was brought up in a sheltered neighbourhood might actually be less experienced than someone half his age who was forced to grow up quickly by harsh circumstances - and a 15-year-old that was given proper education and a good upbringing might be more mature than someone twice as old that dumped out of school and has been living as a freeloader since then.

There's no gap between ages, only a gap between mindsets, and those don't have anything to do with age.

I've spent the better half of today playing on the Wii with my mother (who's well past 60), and I can do the same with a 15-year-old friend of mine - and despite the huge difference in age between those two, the experience is the same. We're simply having fun together.

Sadly, people still think that people should behave "their age" and that at a certain age their personality just "has" to change, because that's "natural". It's actually not, and that's what's so great about Menewsha - and the internet in general:

Unless you ask someone about their age/gender/nationality/looks, you can take a look at their personality/maturity without being restricted by those superficial first impressions and the false "rules" that come with them. And that's where a mature 15-year-old and a 60-year-old that's still young in mind can meet and have some fun together without being held back by the outdated social concept that older people are inherently different from younger ones.

My answer is one word: NEVER.

I think I'll always be on Mene.. just maybe not as much depending on how much time I have, but I'll always still be on here for at least 30 minutes a day. :3nod:

I really don't think it matters. I don't intend giving up any sites i frequent, based on the progression of my age. Admittedly, in sites where the user base is largely whiny 13 year olds, or any clique i find droll for whatever reason - usually a lack of maturity - i get a little fed up, and as it becomes harder to locate people that are of your maturity/humour/comprehension level, i visit the sites less frequently. I think that's how a lot of people end up fading out of some places.

Nobody is too old for a website like this. I met a nice grandma on gaia one time and thought it was nice to talk to someone older. I'm not sure why anyone thinks it's creepy to meet someone that is older. Yes, it is "different", but if the converstation isn't inappropriate, there is nothing wrong with it. If you were in a grocery store line and had small talk with an older person, would that be creepy? Usually it's younger people that make the conversation awkward (at least I find). I'm only 22, but now that gaia is overrun by kids around 13 and 14, I feel very uncomfortable being there (hence, why I found this site). I used to like hanging out with other mature people on that site, but now I can't ever go into a game room without a kid trying to hit on me or talk about inappropriate things. In these situations, who's fault is it really? The older person for minding their own business or the younger person for looking for trouble? I also think parents should try harder to teach their kids about what is appropriate and safe behavior on the web.

I am actually shocked at the mental age of some of the people here, I mean I know I can be considered immature at times and a little on the dim side *huge misconception* but really? There should be no age limit to sites like these. Just because someone is over a certain age doesn't mean that they should be horsed out of sites that they enjoy and is a hobby for them. Also just because someone is past a certain age does not mean it is acceptable for people to accuse them of being perverts when they have done nothing.

Seriously, people who think that at the age of 40 you should just give up on things you find enjoyable and take up the lifestyle of an 80 year old really need to grow up a bit. One day you will reach that age too and I don't know about you but I would hate to be considered old at 40.

For sites like these there should be no age limit, no age that when said person passes it they are expected to drop off the radar. Sites like these are made to be enjoyed by everyone, not just for those who are still in High School.
