Surprise! uh I didn't know if I was supposed to ask before entering, but here goes
---- Title: The sun
Drabble:
The sun is truly our guardian, as it is the guardian of all other worlds. It gives life to the plants that bloom in beautiful colors, then drop sweet, ripe fruit from their branches. It warms our faces and lights up our lives. And though it gives us life, It will give us death in the end. As the sun can no longer guard itself, it can no longer guard us. The sun is saddened as the light of the moon, it's lover will fade. The beautiful painting it created will be destroyed. Uncontrollably, unintentionally, by it's own fiery death.
Title: Greacous Guardians
Drabble: The Guardian, a messenger of God, to protect his children. But what if they were from hell and weren’t white and shiny, but black and burnt from sin with nowhere to go? What if we, his children, are guardian angles? How do we choose? Darkness or light. Is there a promise of heaven or are we doomed to go to hell. Will anyone ever know? Is it even a question? The ultimate battle of right and wrong, will it never end, the questions. What is the truth to life after death. Will we ever know what will happen to us?
Title: Daughter Drabble: "Hush little baby, don't say a word, momma's gunna buy you a mocking bird…"
These are not the words my mother sang to me. But in my head, she does.
As a child, she protected me, yelled at me, comforted me, held me. She was my shield from the outside where the wicked world lay. My mother never sang to me, but she wrapped me up in her words and held me.
Now I am grown and she is ill. But still she stretches her hands to guide me. Protect me.
yeah i agree that the 10 gold for entering is kind of redundant. Especially since on the last round only 3 people entered. Maybe we could make a banner to post in our signatures to advertise the contest, so there are more participants.
I'm glad you think so too. I'm going to drop it then.
A banner would be a neat idea and I really appreciate other people are willing to advertise it! I'm terrible at art things, so maybe I'll ask around. I have a friend who just came home from art college, so I may as well ask.
I like the way that it is now. Sorry I didn't enter last time. As my sig says, I've been noveling. I will definitely be here when it comes back up though!
I actually like having a 10 gold entrance fee, just because it reminds me to enter, otherwise I lost 10 gold for nothing. You could increase the amount to help pay for costs, I suppose.
An entrance fee? I'd feel bad taking money just for people to enter a contest. Maybe if the payout was far bigger and I had more than one winner I'd make an entrance fee. Otherwise I think it's pretty good bet I'll never make people pay to enter.
I was bummed you didn't enter last round, "Guardian" was done from your "Shield" theme you sent me.
Congrats on winning by the way! I was sad I didn't have time to do it this year. I miss Nano.
I wouldn't mind seeing the 10 coin entry bonus be removed. It is nice, but probably a bit silly. I think a 200 coin prize is fairly generous- you could also randomly give away items from time to time to spice things up. Maybe every month have a different little prize.
Maybe after every 5-10 topic, you could have a vote for the top entry out of the winners of those themes. That could have a larger prize and would give people the chance to vote on things even if they don't enter the drabbles. This way more people could contribute and maybe it would encourage more people to enter. it would also give a definate community feel to the contest.
I thought about a random item give away, but I'd probably only give away common clothing items. I suppose if the winner didn't want it, they could just sell it back, yeah? That might be something to think about.
I really like the idea about having a winner of winners every couple of rounds. Denominations of five would work well. I'll deffinately pick that up.
As far as the prize, my mind still basically works on the Gaia gold system, which I know is really wrong. Should I change the round prize to 100 and the "Winner of Winners" prize maybe 400?
You could also ask for winner item donations. I have some random things in my inventory that I would donate to your cause. I got some extra stuff from the Halloween event that in a couple of months would be nifty giveaways when you can't get them anymore.
I'm not really sure about other prizes. Maybe sketches? Or photoshops? I don't really know. I know gold is rare around here. I only have as much as I do right now because I won one of the writing contests from the Halloween thing.
Sketches and such would be great prizes, but alas my art skills leave more than a little to be desired. Something like that might be good though. I'll just have to think.
I'm going to make a mule for writing contest awards soon, so I'll probably see if anyone is willing to donate to that once it's set up. I have no idea what I'd call the mule though. Writing_Contest_Award? Hah. That might take some thought too.
Did you want us to pm you ideas for the prompt? I had a great idea that popped into my head yesterday. Does it have to be one word or can it be a phraze?
Sure you can PM me ideas! I keep them all in a list on my computer.
It can be either. I'd prefer it's not a long phrase, maybe a few words. I'd like to keep the prompts as short as possible, but send your ideas to me and if I think something is too long I'll tell you. =]
Thanks!
Drabble:
I looked at Seraph, my firebird, and smiled, we certainly did enjoy playing with fire, but then I guess it was part of our natures. I was, after all, a daughter of the inferno and his true form was a giant phoenix. From the start our relationship had burned hot and passionate; lust definitely made the flames scorch. Yet I feared Seraph would never love me, he would use me purely for sex then leave, and that broke my heart. When I witnessed the change in him and saw him fall in love then I found my happily ever after
on a side note i'm glad i found this thread, i look forward to participating.
Drabble:
Pontiac Firebirds are always flying along the roads. I'm watching them in their flights of fancy and daring, I'm weary of spooking them. To be one of a few, privileged to witness as the Firebirds migrate to San Antonio is, well a privilege. Even as I watch, two males are doing "doughnuts" and various other stunts in an attempt to catch a females eye, she's interested, this will insure the continuation of this make and model! In 5-6 months this female will have 3-4 mini-coopers, and be nursing for another 1 1/2 years, the minis will reach adult hood in 1-2 years.
I was inspired twice, so I'm submitting two. I hope that's okay!

Title: Ice and Fire
Drabble:
It has many names and many origins. It inspires both artist and writer. It strikes fear into the hearts of many, and hope in the breasts of many more. Its tears are said to heal. Or to hurt, if your heart is dark. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. And yet, in between those stages of dull and gray, it erupts in a fury of riotous colors. Reds and yellows, and sometimes oranges. And rarer still, are those in shades of blue. Ice and Fire are those rare ones. Contradictions in the flesh and beak and feather. And so beautiful.

Title: Fire Dreams
Drabble:
Often, I dream. I dream of many things, but most often I dream of flying. I stand, poised on the edge of a chasm, ready to plunge into the inky darkness below. The wind blows and I am ready. Ready to take the leap my heart demands of me. It is the first time, every time I dream. With no hesitation, my feet leave the earth behind. But I do not fall, oh no. In my dreams, my wings are crimson and gold, burning the sky as I fly. I become a Phoenix, rising from the ashes of my life.

@Mortegami: Hadn't though about multiple entries, but sure! That may change if the contest ever gets hectic, but I doubt it will be. Thanks for your entries!
Swan now? You're a bird person, arn't you? ;) I'm a dog & cat person myself.
P.S. I didn't think I'd win on my first try, so I haven't been logged in for like ever!
