Hm. I didn't know that.

@Alexandra: Yup! We need some unification. :)

Yes. Yaoi refers more to the smut filled doujinshi than the actual manga that people like Youka Nitta and Kodaka Kazuma produce. And you know how touchy some Japanese can be.

Wow, I didn't know any of that; thank you for the heads up! From now on I'll use Boys Love to be safe.

It's ok. It's just something that bugs me. I like to read up on the things that interest me, so I know all this useless stuff about the genre and it seems that nobody else bothers. The internet makes it a sort of word of mouth culture. You learn about shounen ai from a fic or something and everyone just calls it shounen ai or yaoi or whatever and nobody looks it up and it just perpetuates the misinformation.

If I sound a little mean or bitter, I don't mean to, I'm just a lot older than most of you guys XD

I never thought to look it up before, it never really popped into my head that I should. I guess I just automatically assumed that it was the correct term.

@ For-Chan Cookie: You didn't sound mean or bitter at all; in fact, I actually reall appreciate the correction on that :) I'm twenty-one, and man do I feel bad that I didn't catch that eariler :/

I like to know what I'm talking about. I tend to research stuff before getting into discussions about them, so I know all sorts of random things.

Well that's good. Some people don't take correction well and I've had some fans start unholy arguments with me because they didn't want to be wrong. Oi, such a headache when dealing with that.

@For-Chan Cookie: That's actually a very good point. I'm going to have to keep that in mind from now on to do research about things so I don't accidently hurt someone's feelings or worse.

I hate it when people do that, espcially younger teenagers *rolls eyes* I personally like it when someone's taking time out of their lives to help me understand something better :)

I just don't like going into arguments blind. It's bad enough to have to argue on the internet, but I like to be able to make an informed point and get out of the way. XD

This is where my crotchety-ness comes out, because mostly it's the little tweenie raving yaoi fangirls that are like that. Completely misinformed and rabid. They're like piranhas, ten of them will gang up on you and try to drag you down and you have to get out a cattle prod! D: Ok, maybe not quite like that, but sometimes it sure seems like it. Especially since fans are getting into the genre at younger and younger ages.

Hello ^_^ Love your idea of this thread.
*subscribing*

I haven't read any actual 'yaoi' though.

But I do have Descendants of Darkness, Loveless (can't wait for the next one XD), and others that I can't think of right now at five in the morning
Has anyone read Aoi House? It's not yaoi but it's about yaoi fan-girls that have a club/dorm building and two straight guys end up joining because the flyer forgot to mention gay guys only. It is a hilarious series :XD

@Cloudwalker: That sounds insanely familiar...I think I have heard about it before. Does any of the girls try and get the two to get together?

I don't think so . . .
All the girls thought they were already together. The boys never said otherwise so they wouldn't get kicked out since they had nowhere else to stay while in college. The girls of course figured it out though.
Hmm, some key things. The one boy has a very perverted hampster XD And everything that goes on in that dorm in filmed and . . . I think aired on the internet, the girls know about this but the boys don't.
Does that sound familiar?

It's sounding more familiar, yeah. I remember hearing about one anime about a couple boys being in an all girls dorm, so that could be it. I can't remember where I heard about it, or even seen it for that matter. Either way, it sounds interesting; maybe I'll check it out some day :)

I've read Aoi House. I think you can still read it online at the website, here. I hated how it started to devolve into a gibbering pile of timeskipping nonsense. It seems like it just fell apart at the end. It was very disappointing. =/

Amaya-- there is a lot of series about boys being in an all girls dorm or school. And it wasn't an all girls dorm,k it was a girls adn gay boys dorm, even though they were the only boys.

For-Chan-- thanks for giving the link ^_^ Yeah it jumped a lot, especially at the end, how many years did it leave out with no explanation. Even though it jumped from one event to the next I still liked it because it was funny.

P.S. This is Cloudwalker :)

@Cloudwalker - No prob. It was just disappointing how it fell apart. The humor didn't save it for me. I'm just glad I read it online and didn't buy it.

@Oscar - Maybe touchy isn't the right way to put it. Sensitive maybe? I know that Japanese people are really sensitive to titles and status and such. So I supposed to BL Mangaka being called a yaoi mangaka is like accusing a five star chef of being a mere burger slinger from McDonald's.

I can't blame them for being sensitive. XD Especially that poor chef.

Well I'll be sure to stick with BL when I refer to any of the genre now.

Aoi House was good in the beginning, but I kinda stopped reading it after they got to the con. I just stopped keeping up with it and suddenly it was over.

I have no idea! Considering the amount of yaoi role plays going on in the RP section, you'd think this thread would be hopping! But it died.

I do like role playing. I haven't really been keeping up with current yaoi mangaka though. I like some of the classics like Kodaka Kazuma, Youka Nitta, and such. They're lovely
