Basically, I tend to get kind of annoyed when people put a two word response to something you want serious concrit on. So, in order to combat that, I'm suggesting A Honest Concrit Movement. Yeah sure anyone can give you some concrit, but I think it would mean more if it came from a "Movement Member."

If anything we can just be an writing advisory club. ^.^ how boring does that sound?

If you think I'm totally insane just put *bop* in you're reply.

Otherwise, join the movement =D

Basically, if you get a reply from any of these Menewshans, you can be sure that it's good concrit. :)

Update:

I really think we should make this a sort of club or group. Anyone agree?

That would be so refreshing. I hate how everyone's always worried about delicate feelings because some people just can't take an honest comment. Even if it's constructive criticism aimed to help them improve. I'd love it more people did that!

Last week I had some idiot go through a bunch of my stories and leave "loved" on each one. That's it! Just "loved"! No capitalization, no further explanation of what they loved. It was so annoying. I had to resist the urge to go through and delete every comment. :headdesk:

People who just leave "one word comments" totally defeat the purpose of putting literature on a forum. It's for people to read and share thoughts about. As in, multiple thoughts, not just one word. :| I think those of us who hate that kind of thing should somehow band together and if people don't really want actual concrit then make sure they know to say so in their post. Actually, if they don't want concrit, they shouldn't post at all. :/

You guys are more hard-core than I am. Heh. I can stand a few one-word comments. I mean, really, I like ego-boosting. I won't lie about that. I like to know someone has enjoyed something I've written.

However, that doesn't mean that I don't want some good concrit. And I never leave one word comments myself because I feel like I'm cheating the writer.

If I still qualify I'd love to be a part of this! I like writing advice groups.

@hayzel - It wasn't even on a forum. I have a livejournal account where I post most of my writing and it's there mostly just to read. I don't need feedback or anything, I just want people to be able to read it. So this person easily could have read it and moved on. But they made the effort to comment...and yet left one of the most unhelpful comments ever! Over and over and over! >_<

Anyway, I'm totally with you on the "If you don't want concrit, don't post in a forum" bit. Forums are for discussions! They're not really archives. If you post your fiction in a forum, it stands to reason that it's up for discussion, not just there to get ass pats for being able to spit up a wall of text.

@Nolori - I am totally hardcore! Rar! XD While I enjoy comments, I really don't like one word comments. I don't need a paragraph, but I prefer them to look something like this: "I like this story because __insert reason__." I want to know WHY people like something? It's great that you like it, but why? What am I doing that's so great? What am I doing right? I can't do it more if I don't know what that special thing you really liked is! That's how I leave comments on things. I know how frustrating useless comments can be, so I try to inject a little life into them and at the very least tell them what I liked about their work.

@Nolori - Ego boosting is okay when needed but it just get's annoying when that's all people do, or want. As far as being part of the movement, welcome! As long as you can give some good concrit you're welcome to join.

@For-Chan - I understand you're frustrations, and I think being hardcore about the concrit is great. As far as I'm concerned, if I read something I will always post some sort of concrit or if I don't see anything particularly wrong with it, I'll tell people what exactly I liked. I think it's just helpful. =) oh and send me a link to you're livejournal, I want to read more of you're stuff =)

Huzzah for clubs!

I am curious as to what we'd actually do though. I mean, other than what we already do. That being stalk the forum and post critiques.

Well I tend to go through all the forums looking for pieces that haven't really been given any concrit or no replies at all and read them and tell 'em what I think.

I actually have a folder on my subscriptions that I labeled "to edit". Heheh.
I'm just finding that I have less and less time to do it. =\

True, and the less time is an issue with everyone. So I don't we should worry about it and just do it with the time we have. It's not a life or death situation.

And that's a good idea =)

The real question is, will the forum be able to handle our brutal honesty? D:

Muwhahahaha. We could be like super villians! Flying around and critiquing in brutal, hard-hitting manners! We shall be feared and respected!
And We Shall Take Over the WORLD.

Or, you know, just make the first critique more or less simple and then if they are willing to go back and edit you get progressivly tougher.
That's what I do anyway.

You know why I can't give honest critiques around here? Because I can't force myself to read through half this stuff >_> I just left two comments about giant walls of text. As if I don't have enough trouble trying to read some of these stories, I simply refuse to read giant walls of text!

I'm such a picky elitist. D:

I would love to help out on this, both to give and show people how to take proper critiques. (Because nothing is more annoying than genuinely trying to help and giving advice and being yelled at in response. Aside from just getting a one word comment, of course. x.o)

When I read something I always try to point out the strengths and weaknesses in the writing style, as well as discuss my opinions on plot, characters, etc. I do my best to say what would make it easier for me to enjoy and what they did right. That's why it drives me insane when people just leave a comment full of the positive nonsense. I like the ego boosting, but if nobody points out my fatal flaws, how will I fix them and improve?

It just seems like people would rather be mediocre than be criticized, and they think everybody else is the same. >> Stoopid people.

@Bleak Banter - I think I love you. Will you carry my babies? XD

I'd have something more constructive to say since I totally agree with you, but I'm rather sleepy. My brain isn't functioning at it's best right now.

D: I'm sorry, For-Chan, but I already have borne so many of my friends' children. Besides, you wouldn't want me to have any control over the kids. I have a tendency to sell them to the glue factory for some spare cash as soon as times get hard.

Also, it's fine to be tired. I'm sitting here guzzling coffee, and I'm thinking of taking a nap before I have to attend 6 more hours of college. >> Arabic and Algebra, no less, so there'll be no mercy. I know what you mean.

Aww Snap. I was gonna make you have them because I don't want to carry any. I just flat out don't want any, but you made me want some with you XD

It sounds like you could use a nap. D: I still have not succumbed to sleep. Or rather, I'm fighting it. I'm attempting an ultimately futile internal clock reset. They never work for me, but sometimes I try it to get back on "normal people" time.

I only critique pieces that specifically say 'Hey. Help me' or something to that extent. Otherwise I don't usually even read it, no matter how good it is.

As far as reading through it, I usually copy and paste it into Word and go from there. It seems so much easier that way. I break things up myself so I can read them.

I think the reason I don't have a problem doing it is because I know I'm so far from being perfect in any way that if I refuse to help when someone has asked it makes me more of a hypocrite than I'd like to be.

Guh, I need more time for editing again though. My 'To Edit' subscription folder has eleven stories in it. D=
