Yep, you read the title right. I don't want fluffy romances, cutesty high schools or romantic vampires. I want to make something that will send a shiver down the spine of any who walk in and read it all, and still uphold a good plot. I want something dark and eerie, where you genuinely get glued to the page and want to write more and more.

That means that you and I should create:
-A dark, dangerous setting, full of grim despair.
-Characters that are either twisted or have twisted enemies. Preferably both.
-A plot! -legasp-
-A fun, fun roleplay.

Note: I can make up the setting, plot, etc. I just figured it would be more fun if you helped me out. That way it's not all my idea, and we can plan out how everything works out together.

Before we can begin...

-No whiny emo characters, unless you can somehow make it interesting towards the story. (Yeah...good luck with that. xD )

-I need from you a roleplay sample, which you will preferably send via PM. I want proof you're literate. All too often someone says they're literate and then throws one or two paragraphs per post at me. I don't demand a novel, but on average a larger post covers more details and helps one make a more prepared response. If you want a sample from me, feel free to demand it and it shall be sent. In respect of saving space, however, I will not put it here.

-I don't care if we have a romantic sub-plot, but please, let's keep it at a sub-plot. I loathe having to write strictly about how pretty so-and-so thinks your character is. It's just not interesting to me, I'm sorry.

-Cliches are acceptable in small amounts (they became cliche conceps by being overloved, after all) but try to avoid it on a large scale.

-Steampunk. God, steampunk. If you want to make our roleplay steampunk, I will love you forever.

-Understand that I'm a soon-to-be employed college student living with a human being worse than your darkest nightmares. That means that my schedule is wonky, and I'm not going to get on at sane hours. I'm sorry for that, really I am, but it means that I may not be able to post every day. Just a warning ahead of time.

-Because of my insane schedule I can only accept so many roleplay offers, so don't be sad if I turn you down! D: I would take you all on for a good roleplay if I could, but I'm busybusy. I hope you understand!

-Have fun with me! I don't want to roleplay with you if you're bored as hell. (Or worse: you just plain hate the roleplay.)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'll be glad to answer them!

Hm, dark and steampunk? I have been wanting to play around with some non-Victorian England backdrops for a steampunk setting, and so I must inquire, how does the thought of steampunk Aztecs make you feel?

I shall PM you a link to one of my current RP's, I think, so you can get samples in context.

Steampunk Aztecs? I am surprisingly comfortable with the concept.

In fact, one might say I am beyond comfortable, and more into the 'eager' zone. :3 I have read your samples, and I give my full seal of approval. Then again, it was pretty easy once you chucked that idea my way.

So is it a date?

Are you still interested, m'dear?

If so, I would be glad to send you two or three paragraphs from my darkest character.

Yay =D I look forward to it! However, I really need to get to bed for tonight; I shall think more on exact plot ideas and such, and get back to you on that on the morrow <o/

I'm interested, but entirely too exhausted to link up some examples. Heh. So I'll just earmark this thread, and see if you're still interested. I'm not completely clear on what Steampunk really is, but I think on a very basic scale, I've done it before. Just throwing that out there.

And I do have twisted characters. I love dark roleplays with violence and little to none of that lovey-dovey crap.

Hmm, a few thoughts and things to decide - do we wanna do something with like steam conquistadors coming in? Or maybe ones without steam? Or shall we just play with maybe opposing tribes and some steamy garland wars going on? And if we have steam Aztecs, do they still practice human sacrifice, or do their gods maybe demand oil or coal instead of blood? =O *ponders*

Let me try and hit everything one at a time, Asahi:

Quote:
do we wanna do something with like steam conquistadors coming in?
If there is an age I rawk the socks of knowledge in aside from the crusader era, it's the conquistadors in the age of exploration. 8D So that would be a fantastic idea.

Quote:
Or maybe ones without steam?
So steam-Aztecs versus regular conquistadors? It would be a slaughter house of awesome, but Idunno. :\

Quote:
Or shall we just play with maybe opposing tribes and some steamy garland wars going on?
This, my friend, also sounds just plain awesome. It would cut out the middle man of the conquistadors and help us centralize the plot more. The unknown element of the Spaniards would be fun, but it may wind up making the plot just a little too thick. Making it strictly Aztec may be better.

Quote:

Well, they could always do both. -shrugs-
Who says the gods have to settle for one or the other? O: I think they deserve better than that!

Okay, so steamy garland wars it is, and then maybe save the Spaniards for later on if we start running out of ideas, if the RP goes on that long. Perhaps they can come to the New World in search of some black gold to fuel their European wars when the time is right plot-wise xD

And hmm, maybe they have a few new gods, then, who take sacrifices of oil. Like, all the old gods are still there, but there's also a movement to promote the new ones, who require the lifeblood of the machines to survive. I could see them building something like the Japanese karakuri ningyou, except maybe more battle-oriented, to add to their garland wars, or at least they would be a prized commodity for trade/capture, since they would be human-like machines for sacrifice.

Probably not something they would sacrifice every day, though. But I bet the artisans who construct the clockwork people would be the wealthiest, or maybe even considered among the priestly caste. Higher up than the ordinary tinkerers, building machines to harvest fields or move people or goods around.

Once more I'll break this in chunks. Mostly because I can. xP

That's a very good idea. When things get droll, that way we have something to throw in there! 8D Me gusta!

That's...a surprisingly good idea. It would actually help a lot with the reasoning behind the wars. One sect could be pro-old god and the other could be pro-new god. How does that sound?

Just adding on to a good idea, there. :3 Good sir, you are full of brilliance.

Of course. The most skilled mechanics would be held in high respect, up there with prophets. Or most likely considered prophets.
=P

I like the way you think.

Do you have any ideas for what we could do with our characters, at least to start with? I guess the easiest way to set up conflict would be to have characters from two opposing tribes, or at least competing city-states. Or we could always go with two characters from within the same locality, perhaps one high-class and one low-class? *shrug*

I am sort of interested in maybe playing a pochtecatl traveling merchant-type character maybe. Or a warrior. I could go with whatever, though, or multiples if we want to go that route XD

For now? Hmmm...I figure that somewhere along the line we're bound to throw in multiples, but that would be for later on unless you want more than one. If you have a preference for what you want to be, go ahead! I find myself driven to the priestly class for my character, for some reason. o.o

Unless that would be a bother to you, of course.

Nah, that's perfectly alright with me XD Would your character serve the old gods or one of the new gods? Perhaps if I play a pochtecatl merchant, he could be delivering one of the mechanical sacrificial dolls to the temple?

Also, I must say I love the quote in your signature XD

Asahi, you're full of good ideas. You're like a good-idea machine. xD In fact, you're so good at making good ideas I feel bad for not contributing as much ninja-skill good idea-ness as you are.

As your brilliantly good idea stated, my priest can very well serve the new gods. 8D That way we have a whole reason for our characters to meet in the first place instead of having to make up some backwards, insane excuse.

Heheh, thanks! I love it, too. Mostly because it's delightfully accurate.

Nuu, don't feel bad XD; I'd already had a few of these ideas sort of rattling around in my skull beforehand, aaand I always love me some good fake anthropology, lol.

Setting will be in a bigger city, I guess, if there are big temples?

Suresure!

8D I already pulled out a name for my character and everything: Itztli

I guess we have the basic plotting done...do you want to start it or should I?

Or should we try to put in some more detail before beginning?

I think we can get started now, and then if we find there's anything else to iron out, we can talk about it here? And I can start if you'd like; I'll do so then edit the link into this post.

[edit] Here you go~ [/edit]

Alrighty then. xD I was kind of hoping you'd start, honestly. I'm not sure why.

That's a good idea. If we need to add any more details I'll be sure to let you know.

Tag, sorry, had a bit of writing to do for a project yesterday and today. Writing up character bio/histories for a game concept and I got a little into it XD;;

Then I had D&D this evening, and the series premier for Stargate Universe. You into Stargate at all? *curious*

I used to watch it back in the day. :3

I lost a little respect for the series eventually.
(I'm going to make a reply, I'm just trying to figure out what to put.)

I'm a newb that way. I'm all "D&D? Well, I prefer second edition..." "Stargate? Well, I preferred the original couple seasons in the first show..."

Naah, SG-1 is still my favorite, though the earlier seasons of Atlantis were also enjoyable. I have seen all but the last two seasons of the former and the last twenty-ish episodes of the latter, but like, overall, Atlantis got to start to irritate me a little with the drama. So, while I found the pilot of Universe sufficiently enjoyable, I worry that it will end up being like, an uberdrama that happens to take place in outer space rather than a sci-fi show :<

Aw, man, I should dig up my rulebooks for second edition again, just for funsies. My game today was 3.5, and I run my own game in 4th, but I somewhat agree with the criticism I have heard that 4th Edition D&D is an MMO on paper. Not completely a bad thing but it's a flavor of "different" that I'm not entirely sure I like XD;

... So yeah, I am also sort of a picky geek, lol.
