This Boy's Life. It was a memoir book, and I didn't even watch the movie--I watched the trailer, and I was so disgusted, everything was wrong with all the characters--I was heartbroken and couldn't watch the film. -_-
Eragon. Oh god that was awful. It had the single redeeming value of at least being fun to watch, but they made NO attempt at making a good movie (either in regards to movimaking in general, or in regards to being a good, accurate adaptation). Terrible Terrrible Terrible
I was highly disappointed in Ella Enchanted, just like others here have said. It didn't seem to follow the story, in fact I couldn't really remember most of the scenes, that happened in the movie that happened in the book as well. Although I adore Anne Hathaway I honestly don't think she fit the part for Ella, she was a little too old in my opinion.
Oh too many to list! My brain hurts trying to think of them all.
-Eragon
-Percy Jackson - Complete crap compared to the books. They cut out like 75% of the story, screwed up characters, and added things that weren't even in the book.
-Twilight - Yes I admit I read the damn book and saw the awful movie okay.
Top of my list has to be: I am Legend. Yeah that stopped following the original story 1/4 of the way through the movie. Plus he's supposed to be the BAD guy, not the hero. If you haven't read the story, it turns out in the end the Vampire/zombie monsters, who are still quite human like (They sit outside his door and taunt him all night saying "Hey it's just your neighbors, come out and talk to us!") have re-set up society, how to live with out human blood, and he's been sneaking in during the day and killing them in their beds. They finally capture him and he realizes that he's the real monster of legend, not them. Hence the friggin title! :illgetu:
Twilight was a very good book. The movie was shit though. They could have done wayy better, but they just came off as under-budget.
I agree 10 thousand percent!!!! I loved the books they are my favorite books in the world and I was so happy that they were going to make them into movies but when I went and saw the first one I thought that it was the worst presentation of the books ever! Everything was wrong they ruined some of the best scenes threw in scenes that weren't even in there didn't put in scenes that should have been in there I think they should have made it much long also and they totaly ruined the ending they made Edward fight with James when Edward didn't fight at all with James and Bella didn't even see Edward she just heard his voice cause she was near death before he even got there! I just think they totaly massicured it and I refused to see the second one until it comes onto cable.
Twilight
Harry Potter 3 (I enjoyed every single other movie. I was appauled by the third one, though.
The Lovely Bones (where was the dog scene?!!)
Jumper (the book was SO GOOD)
Eragon was an amazing book. I wanted to cut my eyes out after seeing the movie. The movie was rushed and completely disregarded the fact that Saphira had to grow over time, not magically in under two minutes. My sister saw the movie and hated it too, and she never read the book. -.-;;

The first movie actually had that plot line. I never read the book but I did see the movie "Last man alive" with vincint price. that one was much better.
Worst book to movie conversion was by far Queen of the Damned. It smooshed not one but two books together, got elements of the plot flagrantly wrong and left out the entire subplot that made the end of the movie make sense. Do I own the dvd? Yes I do. Why? Because I really like the music and prefer Jonathan Davis singing the songs he wrote for the film which he wasn't allowed to sing on the cd for some reason I think do to conflicting contractual issues.
I'd have to say, Narnia. It just for some reason ruined it for me. I loved the books, the movie just wasn't as good to me. As when I read the books, and the fact that they skipped the magician's nephew both in the cartoon and the narnia movie.
I was more in awe of the books.
Have you ever watched the BBC verision of the Narnia tale? It was done quite well for the time and although I did not enjoy the book I can still say that the BBC version is more to the book then the new version.

Mine has to be The Lovely Bones I never did like the book but the movie left too much out and alot of the imagery would not have been understood unless you have read the book.
I find it impossible to have someone be so important in the novel and cut them out of the movie basicly all together. Buckley and Lindsey were very improtant to the story line and glanced over in the movie. Sure you can't put everything into a movie I understand this but the important parts need to stay important.
I'll have to say Harry Potter, Order of the Phoenix. I remember crying after I read about Sirius's death, it was so sad. When I watched the movie, the whole part about Sirius's death just looked silly.
Narnia; the books were way different. I still like the movies but they could have done a better job.
Twilight; for obvious reasons if you've seen it.
Harry Potter; good until I started readint the books. I do like, however, that it MOSTLY goes along with the books.
i think the WORST book-to-movie was The Devine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. i LOVE LOVE LOVED the book and as much as i like Sandra Bullock it was not her best role.
Twilight- NOTHING like the book. I HATE ROB PATTERSON >_<
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants- AHHHHH D:
Ella Enchanted- EPIC FAIL. Where was the bird scene? :( You know, with the birds that speak different languges? THAT'S MY FAVORITE SCENE EVERRR <3 And there was no real FEELINGS in the movie, like the book.
The Vampire's Assistant: What's wrong with movie-makers these days!?
The Golden Compass- ...THEY MESSED UP THE ENTIRE ORDER OF THE BOOK! :(
I was so disappointed with this film. I realize that they couldn't have possibly fit everything from the book into the movie, but they could have done a lot more than they did.
The film lacked substance, left out the most profound parts, and absolutely ruined a good thing. Suddenly major characters and major plot points became minor footnotes in the movie.
I understand the book must be hard to adapt to the screen. In fact I understood that long ago when I started the trilogy. However, I firmly believe that if you can't do it correctly, then you shouldn't do it at all.
Differences:
SPOILERX
-They changed the whole scene in the beginning. In the book it was the head master of Jordan college that tried to poison Asriel, NOT the man from the Magistrium.
-Mrs.Coutler did not just barge in on the dinner, she was there with woman scholars who wanted Lyra to attend their schools.
-The head master didn't enter Lyras room and give her the Alitheometer, instead, in the book, he secretly beckoned her to his study.
-Mrs. Coutler was throwing a party at her house, and by talking to guest Lyra was able to figure out that Mrs. Coutler was involved with the G.O.B., which played part in her running away.
-Lyra did NOT sneak into her study or climb out her window. Instead she cleverly snuck out of the party.
-The whole thing with Bolavanger was crap. None of what happened in the movie was the way it happened in the book. Not one thing.
-And the ending... Oh man, it got my blood boiling.
I mean what was the point of them even mentioning the witches prophecy in this film? It really holds no weight. Where as in the book we find that everyone is deeply connected and the role Lyra plays is absolutely central to everyone and everything. What were they trying too leave room open for a sequel? They would never do The Subtle Knife justice. Not if it's even half as horrible as this poorly conceived film.
Ugh!
(On a side note, I actually preferred the Twilight Movies to the Twilight books.)
I hated that movie. They added characters and weird plot elements to a perfectly alright story. And... why, exactly? The character they added was useless and took away from the book, where Coraline is this super-independent, lively young girl that got herself into trouble, and got herself out of trouble on her own. In the movie, she's saved by her annoying neighbor.
I'm another of those rare sorts who found the movies better than the books when it comes to Twilight, I guess.
I mean, they're both awful, but considering the source material I have to give the producers of the Twilight movie their due. The cinematography was absolutely beautiful and had a great feel to it, and I liked that the characters sort of stuttered their way through their lines and interactions the way that teenagers do. I just wish the lines were actually better and the characters were more than these one-dimensional dream-puppets of Stephanie Meyer.
Plus, good lord, the less I have of Bella's purple-prose narration, the better. She only narrated a few lines in the movie. She narrated hundreds of pages in the books.
Haha, bad movie adaptations? Maybe Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. This was my favourite series as an elementary school-age kid, and the movie just ruined it for me. They didn't even finish the series! Yep, to this day, I cannot bring myself to forgive the directors xD
Eragon, the worst I've ever seen in my life. It was like they took the book and put it through a paper shredder, chewed up the pieces, spit them out, and then turned whatever was left into a screenplay. Not only did it not do justice to the book, it wasn't even a good film in and of itself. >:I
The first one that came to mind was "Queen of the Damned"
I saw the movie first and I thought it was a decent movie. Then I read the book and it made me not like the movie as much, lol. Bad conversion for sure.
T*Witches. Hands down. I loved those books when I was in middle school and occasionally I might reread them (even though I don't generally like rereading books). I didn't know they made two movies out of the books until recently. The books and movies have just enough in common that it makes you want to scream. Other than that they are completely different. They made Cameron into a babbering moron, or thats how I viewed her, and Alex into an irritation. Not only did they murder their personalities they looked nothing like how they were explained in the books. Alex was no longer the 'punk', among other things, and not even their skin colors were the same. The only thing I liked about the movies was Karsh and Ileana. They amused me even though they were different from the books as well. The whole thing was stupid but I watched the whole movie. There was very little of the original storyline present, just enough references there to know what it was about, but then what can one expect from Disney? I think if another company made the movie it would be better. I think anything could be better.
