I have played the Star Ocean Series but am currently replaying them. I just got a PSP and am playing Star Ocean 1 the First Departure. So far the game still retains it's charm and is awesome. Anyone else have any thoughts or inspirations to share?

I love how the stories can change based on your decisions, kind of reminds me of Chrono Trigger.

Star Ocean 2 is an animated movie as well look it up on youtube.com

My favirote was Star Ocean Till the End of Time but i didn't quite understand the fact that the whole universe was a 3d game that the 4D inhabitants played if i recall correctly and my Fav character is Albel Nox.

I never got to the end of the game because my memory card erased. It was definitely a very cool game. You have to play the first two Star Oceans. They both follow each other, the first game features the second game main character's father. The story is awesome, but I don't like how you can only have eight in your party, I think you should be able to get everyone but of course little things should have to be accomplished.

After watching twenty-three episodes of Star Ocean 2 I really liked the show even though they dumb it down a bit it's still an awesome series. I didn't like how they made Rena so helpless, they should have shown her use her martial arts skills a whole lot more and use her powers.
I can't remember if Yuki, the pink haired first a shop keeper then a singer later in the series, was even in the game at all.

Yuki the jam girl is in the game, in one of the first towns you visit XD If I recall correctly, she was just not quite as interesting as she was in the anime or the manga.

I've played through most of Till the End of Time, but still need to finish beating it, and I've also got First Departure for my PSP, but I am not too far into it. I've been a fan of The Second Story for quite some time, though - friends and I even did a big cosplay group once upon a time XD; I was Ashton Anchors; he will forever be my favorite character~

I really like the item creation system they have going, though having to do it at workshops in 3 annoyed me somewhat.

Has anyone played Star Ocean: Last Hope for the Xbox360 yet? I'm considering purchasing an Xbox for that game, among others, but I have heard precious little about it =o

I have to buy Star Ocean two for the Play Station portable because I want to watch the anime sequences so badly. I have it for the Play Station One but I want the enhanced version. Are there any differences worth noting on it?
I have finished watching the anime series for Star Ocean The Second Evolution and definitely think they should have made Yuki a playable character as a bard type of some sort. I didn't like how they down played Ashton and made him look like an idiot. I noticed Claude's jacket was green instead of brown in the series. The series has renewed my love for the second installment of the series.
I also did not like how they made Rena so helpless, they should have had her utilizing her martial arts skills she had and not just her curative magic. I also think that they should have had Bowman use his abilities more as well. The series over all could have been done much better, and apparently there is a second season? Not sure on that one. I did like how they put all heroes in the mix together leaving no one out.

~ I kind of wish that you could obtain every character in the game at once. Now that would make it interesting, but I understand why they didn't so they could give it a higher reply value.

I never finished the third one, I got out into where they are in the four D world but lost all my data like I did when I got stuck in the mountain during the second game... so consequently, I never finished either one, pretty lame huh? Yes, the workshops are annoying to a degree.

I am playing through the first game right now myself.
(SPOILER) ~ In the secret cave in the Sylvan country if you make a decision to support Ioshua's decision to get his sister out of the crystal you get a really sad scene and you loose Mavelle...aka Iosha's sister Eyres.

I have the fourth but have only played seven to ten hours into it and three hours was spent leveling up. It looks interesting and looks like it has a lot of potential. I would definitely buy it, the price of the game has not faltered yet which is a sign that it is a good game and people are still willing to pay full retail price for it.

@Asahi Kumoru ~ You should definitely play the first two games. They are totally epic.

Star Ocean: The Second Story was my favorite of the series thus far. I can't even tell you how many hours I spent in that god forsaken pyramid. >_< Dias Flac was my favorite character for what it's worth. ^_^

For those unfamiliar, here's the wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Oc...e_Second_Story

Star Ocean Two: Evolution is probably the most popular of the series. They even have a mediocre anime on youtube you can watch that is about twenty-six episodes long! They call it Star Ocean X. I like the cartoon because unlike the game once you meet the characters they are all still around. Even up to the battle with the sorcery globe, everyone is present that you can get in the game. Dias is definitely a bad ass in the show, most likely the best fighter in the series. I like watching how Claude's abilities get better as each episode passes by. They really dumbed down Ashton a little too much/ undermining his character. Mainly the importance or the main four the show focuses on are Claude and Rena of course, then Celena and Ashton. Dias is kind of like a wildcard that shows up when he's desperately needed. The series doesn't show the destruction of Expell, but they said they were going to do a different series but I don't think they have as of yet. You really should five Star Ocean One: First Departure a look. Roddick, Millie, Ilia, and Ronyx which is Claude's father. I still have not finished the game yet, but the story is pretty interesting and like part two it has many plots and twists that give it a high replay value as well.

I've played all three. I was upset when I made one of the choice and had to watch the ending where Ioshua loses both Mavelle and his sister. Seeing him crying like that was un-nerving.

I'll be honest, I like Star Ocean 2....but I don't like it THAT much. I prefer the first game over the second game -- then again, I've never beaten the second game (had to sell my PSP).

I loved the 3rd game though, but I was very disappointed at the limited endings. I watched it all and felt that it was too short...that they should've done the ending alot better.

I've never had the opportunity to play this game series. Though I would really love to. I know the series is fairly popular and finding an orignal copy may be hard. Yes I could get the rerelease for the psp as you said you have one. But I really do prefer to play the older games on their original consoles. It kind of ruins the point and the feel of the originalliy of the game to play it any other way.

Yes, I have made the same mistake and watched the movie and it was indeed really sad. Ioshua is such a tragic hero in his own right. I haven't beaten the game yet, I still yet have to beat the last stage at Farget world. I have played two and three but have never beaten them either because of one reason or the other. My favorite character is Ilia, and since I haven't beaten it I still don't know who is Claude's mother? The whole relationship points system is difficult, as Roddick I found out you have to protect Millie all the time to get the Relationship points with Millie to get another ending. I kind of wish you could have more than eight characters and just be able to get all of them. Someone sold me their PSP for forty dollars!! I kind of felt bad for doing it but, oh well....

@nette ~ Actually it is going to be way too difficult to do as you say for Star Ocean One, besides I have played One and Two and they feel the same, no need to get the original console, or if that held true no one would download eight bit nintendo games on the Wii console. The PSP does the game justice, and it is unchanged.

Ashton Anchors was by far my favorite character in Star Ocean Second Story XD I cosplayed him once upon a time - perhaps I can try to unearth pictures, if I still have any.

Ashton/barrel OTP ♥

Still getting really into First Evolution, but I am liking Ilia so far. Really, for RPG games, the female leads in Star Oceans 1 and 2 are pretty cool *also liked Rena* But I felt like Star Ocean 3 went back to the usual trend of the female lead whom Kumo cannot stand =3=;; Oh well.

Ashton is awesome, I hate how they dumb him down in the series on Star Ocean EX which is the anime series. When he does get serious it shows. I like Dias though. I need to play through Star Ocean Three again actually, I'm forgetting what happened other than Fayt and Sophia are the lead characters.

My dad has all of the Star Ocean games and he's been trying to get me to play them saying its a fantastic storyline but I haven't gotten around to it. I believe the first one was for the ps2? If so then I still have that game and maybe I'll try it out.

Actually the first one was on a different system and never actually came out here in the United States. The first was only out in Japan. The second one came out on the Play Station One which can be played on the Play Station Two. You should definitely try it out and watch a little of the cartoon based on that game on you tube, look up Star Ocean Ex.

The Star Ocean games have always been one of my favorite... Second Story will always be one of the best to me but I love them all.

I am currently trying to hunt down a copy of the very first/original one, but have not had much luck yet as it was only a Japanese release on SNES. Thankfully they redid the first two for PSP I just wish they would make them for PS3 lol.

I guess I will have to eventually get a PSP again if I want to play them, which I probably will.

I was really lucky one day when a college student who needed money more than his Play Station Portable came in and was trying to sell it. Gamestop would only give him thirty five dollars, I just offered him five dollars more and he jumped on that deal fast!! I gave him the money and took the play station portable and left before he could change his mind. That was not a very good deal for him, but it was sure great for me lolz!!

I know I did, was it right? Probably not, but the guy was in a hurry for some quick cash. Could he have went on Ebay and sold it for at least seventy-five US dollars? Yes, for sure! But did he? No, he went to a Gamestop store which was going to rip him off worse, I only padded the rip off by five US dollars more LOL!! Game stop is full of ripping people off, that's why their business does so well, some huge ethical issues with that company if you ask me. It's another example of capitalism. Do I agree with it? The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind. To me it's not just a simple yes and no answer.

hehehe kole, thank you for making me start singing blowing in the wind XP yeah is gamestop really big over in america then? they have like only 1 shop in the whole of this city. Compared to the countless games and gamestations that control the market. They may as well be the same company since Gamestation is mostly owned by Game now.

Cex shop have a better share of the game market in england than Gamestop what for i can tell.

Gamestop is huge, for a little college mountain town where I live we have two Gamestops! They are over in Britain but they aren't very prolific over there. If they have their way the will dominate the business there too.

hehe Kole, i couldnt seem Gamestop taking over the market form Game, they just own two much of it control both the main gaming chains in the county. Cex might be able to do that, but thats only because they sell alot of DVDs and CDs along with games. They also sell TVs and other none computer releated stuff.

International businesses are always a bit tougher. If they don't, maybe it won't be such a bad thing considering the business ethics they practice here. I'm not sure how they practice over there.
