I just arrived at this site less than 24 hours ago... and I got my first online infraction ever. I guess double posting here means something different to what I'm use to.

Now before you yell at me saying "omg you moron its right over there!" I've been looking for nearly 30mins and I haven't found my answer, which means I'm not sure where to look for it. This is why I'm asking.

So my question is as follows....

Is there a list of possible infractions and the infraction points for each? What is the maximum number of points you can get. Do they ever go away?

There is a list but it's not something that would be made public. What you received wasn't actually an infraction is was just a reminder. You'll only get an infraction if you do the same thing again now that you've been told that it's against the rules.

Joku the maximum amount of points you can receive is 1000, at that point you get banned, but you'd have to break the rules an awful lot to reach that point.

The system has 3 tiers:
  • If you do something wrong the first thing you get is a reminder. This has no points and is just a nudge to let you know your mistake and point you towards the rules.
  • If you do the same thing again you get an expiring infraction which gives you 100 points which go away after 28 days.
  • If you do the same thing again you receive a permanent infraction which gives you 250 points that never go away.

This is because we want people to have the chance to learn our rules and not pick up any permanent infractions from mistakes made while they're new to the site, but if they persist in breaking the rules even after they've been repeatedly told that they're doing wrong then they have to be permanently disciplined for it.

I was curious about this topic as well.

I have recieved one "friendly warning" (due to an FAQ misinterpretation), and then I received an official "0 point infraction" (due to yet another FAQ misinterpretation). What separates formal 0 point expiring infractions from the 'friendly warnings'?

0 point infractions are friendly warnings, just worded differently. Each mod has their own way of wording things, it just depends on who catches you. :P
