Any tips for making gold and putting together my first outfit?

Welcome, games and posting are the only current ways of earning gold besides whatever contests you may find to enter. The game gold does have a daily cap to encourage you to venture into the forums and such. The shop 52 has the cheapest items except for a peasant shirt which is in hot gossip.

There are some guides stickied in this forum which would also help. :)

Well, the best thing for you to do, is to learn how to earn gold. You can do that in How do I earn gold?: A newbie Gold Earning Guide Its really very helpful!
Also, if you are interested in making 'stylish' avatars, maybe take a look at the Avatar Chat forum... It's where people go for advise on avatars etc.
