:cough: For the second time.
Ignoring the fact that I'm really too old to get away with an event typically associated with teenagers, I'm most definitely too poor for it.
Going to try and talk to T-Mobile and see if they can't cut the charge(s).
Would have been best if the 15$/month upgrade had just been applied back when I jumped on the (family) plan again (a few years ago >_>).
What are your experiences with this?

Damn! $400?!
Most I over did on my bill with my mom was $36.
I hope you can negotiate with T-mobile about it.

I rarely ever use my cell phone these days so I've never had a problem with any of that crud O_o Be sure to read your contract and know what you can and can't do and what your limits on talk time and texting are.
I used my cell a lot in college to call home, but I knew it was free every night after 9pm, so I'd wait until then to call, so I never used any minutes :P

Well, we go 20% over the plan- an 80$ or so plan, at that- and get an egregious charge of 400$.
Aside from being reprehensible, it is rather illogical.
And after the first time I learned all the limitations- I just had a rough month and apparently was more engaged in communication than I had assumed- or at least allowed recognition for.
But, going about 800$ in charges for an 80$ plan.. x_X

It sounds like you need to upgrade your plan. Clearly you don't have the one that fits your needs best o.o
I have a pay as you go phone so I never have to worry about fees or contracts or penalties. Some months I put maybe $50 into my phone, other months may need only $20. I just don't use it enough to warrant a plan.

Yep.
Somehow my cell phone bill was run up to $700.
My mom says it was me of course, but we're both on the contract, so I'm sure it wasn't all me.

Back when I shared minutes and texts with my parents we had phone bills like that. Now that i'm on my own my little brother is the culprit.
Good luck resolving it though. The phone companies exist on leeching off of these outlandish overcharges.

I had a $396 bill once because my internet accidentally got turned on for 200 hours. I was able to get it lowered to the original $90 that it usually cost.

My granddaughter went over about 3 months in a row about 600 dollars worth. I laid down the law. No texting no calls before 9 no internet. Or no phone period. The first couple of times we werent aware of extra charges and she didnt understand them but now she is good about it and I havent had any problems. We have cingular and have about 7000 saved up in case we need them. She can talk all she wants at night and weekends. The rest of the time no calls except nessasary.

wow. that really is over priced. ever thought of the "flex" plan? or switching to a different phone service? T-mobile might not let you make a payment plan with them. depending if this a reoccuring thing.

Oh wow...
I've never had it happen to me. I have the 450 minutes with ATT. Also of course unlimited texting since I do that more. I just hate that I have a ton of roll over minutes and I'll probably never use them by the time they run out since I don't talk all that often. :/

I didn't know Canada was not included in my texting plan when I told them I wanted it included and I got a $800 bill. I complained told them I want to switch providers and they lowered down to the $40 it was supposed to be a month. People that work at phone companies annoy me.

If it's the 2nd time that you've gone over that much on your minutes, you really should talk to T-Mobile about upping your minutes so it doesn't happen again. Usually phone companies will be able to backdate any changes like that so that the $400 charge will become less.

I have unlimited text, and some 500 minutes, but I never call anyone, so my minutes pretty much go unused.
So nope, never had that problem

The worst phone bill I've ever received through my own actions was years ago. I tried dial-up internet (this was way before the average person could get broadband), and I racked up a great deal in long-distance charges because of the phone number I used.
More recently, the worst I know of happened to a friend of mine. She has a cell phone contract with two phone lines, one of which she gave to a friend with the idea they'd split the bill. As you can guess, that didn't happen.
The second person racked up all sorts of charges and refused to pay, and it became difficult for my friend to get the phone back and sort out the mess.

Holy Lord, that's quite a charge. Learned a lesson, have we?
I hope that you can get that worked out! That totally sucks x___x
I have a pay-as-you-go phone, so if I run out of minutes, I can't call anyone. Can't receive or send texts, either. I can't rack up extra charges, it won't let me. That's kinda neat, I get the feeling that I could get myself into a bad situation with extra fees and overcharges.

I had a problem like that when i first got my cell phone... They didnt have unlimited text messaging then... and yeah that was what i used my cell phone for the most... So i learned real quick to keep track of it all. It was a very long and boring process!!
But now i have a cell phone where i get unlimited EVERYTHING for like 50 a month and then i have insurance and call back tones which brings the final bill to like 62 a month, i quite like it!

Well, twice in only the past 6 months, with an overall cell phone ownership of 6 years..
It's a mark of failure to recognize changes in environment and need to adapt- or ability to divert time and effort for such purposes- rather than any failure of responsibility.
At least, that's the general analysis- of course, I have been especially apathetic as of late, so perhaps not.
I've had my share of problems with cell phone companies- for example, previously, T-Mobile took over 3 weeks before allowing me to get myself a replacement phone when mine was stolen, despite my not having replaced my phone for 4+ years (hence missing out on a free phone, pah).
Some bureaucratic mess involving speaking to their branch office, their local office, their general office, and their online division. Seriously? And then it was shown that -every single branch screwed up at some point-.
Ah, well. I'll try and make the call today, hopefully it'll be cleared up..
..because, really, I can't afford to pay it. x_x
