He shook his head. "When i set my mind to work, i usually work until i drop. the only reason i came in when i did was because i heard you in here. it sounded like you were upset. i'll be fine. i just didn't sleep well last night."

She knocked him on the side of the head softly. "You idiot," she said in an almost affectionate tone, "sit down." She poured some lemonade into a glass and held it out to him. "Drink it slowly, it'll help your body absorb it."

He sat slowy and took he glass, sipping at it. "Thanks. it tastes really good."

She looked at him more closely. Why hadn't she noticed the dark circles under his eyes before? "You're drained," she said, "is there a certain reason why you didn't sleep last night?"

He shrugged as he sipped slowly. "not really. i tried. i laid there forever trying to even get tired and i just couldn't fall asleep." this was half the truth but the only half she needed to know at the moment.

She frowned at this. "That must have been my fault," she said, "all the excitement of bringing me to the hospital must've gotten your adrenaline pumping and then you couldn't sleep. I'm sorry."

He blushed madly at this, though didn't realize it. "N-no. really. i just have a hard time sleeping some nights. it's fine." he looked away.

She frowned a bit more deeply, looking over at Colin for a moment. "We're going to make cookies," she said, "you sit in here for a while and drink your juice. You're done working for the night."

He looked up at her. "but..." he wasn't sure what to make of this. "is there anything i can do?"

"Nope," she said, turning her back on him and making her way to the bags on the counter, "you sit." She pulled out the items and laid them over the counter, then rolled up her sleeves, looking at Colin over her shoulder. "I'm counting on you," she said with a grin, "I can't bake for the life of me." She pulled up her hair and tied it into a stylish knot at the back of her head.

He giggled and scampered over to her. "these cookies are really good! mommy used to have a fancy glass and she'd push the bottom into the cookie that would make a prett pattern in it. like a snow flake! they're called Royal Sugar Cookies."

Andrew said nothing but as he sat there he felt quite dizzy. Something about this scene and that child seemed so familair to him.

Eva smiled at this. "After we finish with the mixing, I'll see if there're any interesting cups in the cupboards we can use, okay?"

He nodded and began instructing her on how to mix everything together. "this is so much fun! i'm smart!"

Andrew couldn't help but to smile at this. he was indeed a very smart child. but some things weren't adding up for andrew and it was making him rather worried....

Soon the mixing was done and Eva was looking through the cupboards at the glasses. She held one up to the child. "Erm... the only one that I can find is this one with a maple leaf design in the side. Do you think it'll work?"

he nodded. "well, it is october. i think that'll work. we used to make them at christmas time so the snow flakes made sense. that'll be pretty."

Eva smiled and made her way to the sink, still not trusting anything that had to do with the former owner of the house, and rinsed it off. Then she looked over at Andrew. "Come over here and press some cookies," she said, "you look bored... and you have a more normal color in your face now."

He snapped out of his thoughts and stood, making his way over to the counter. "What do you want me to do?" Somewhere in his brain he understood her, but at the same time he was unsure. lack of sleep rarely effacted him this way and he didn't like it.

"Just roll the glass over the cookie," Eva answered, putting the glass in his hand, "it's not that hard, just don't squish the cookie flat."

He nodded, and soon every cookie they'd already made had a neatly printed maple leaf in exactly they same spot, perfectly. "i think they'll be good when they're baked."

Eva clapped with joy. "Now you," she took the glass from Andrew's hand and set it on the counter, taking him by the shoulders gently. "Are going to take a nap. Colin and I can take it from here and I'll wake you when we're done." She steered him toward the living room. "Your choice of the couch or one of the spare bedrooms.

He looked around the room, not seeing either angel or demon. then he noticed all the light and sighed. "Bed room. you pick one. there's way too many for me to really care..."

She pointed to the stairs. "The best one I've seen so far besides the one I chose to be my room is the one next door to my room. There's no buzzing in there either. The curtains are plenty thick and the bed looks like it's brand new but seems like it hasn't been used in a while."

He nodded and trudged up the stairs, vaguely wondering what she meant about buzzing. she only seemed to hear it when Akane and Malichai were around.

Eva and Colin put the cookies in the oven, Eva then grabbing a pencil and some plain paper from somewhere. "Now for another fun something," she said, "I need you to help me design my Halloween costume."

Colin blinked a minute but sat on the counter beside her. "okay. that sounds fun. do you really think i can help?"
