Has anyone received it yet? They are giving free shots to employees at my work. I'm not sure if I want to get it. I think it was a rumor but I heard some people got sick a day or two after they received it.

Actually, to be honest, I would not get it. My mum is a teacher and last year someone she knows did a poll. Turns out people who go the shot were out sick for longer than those who did not get it (by several days).
Here's an article about the shot too that you might want to read, there are a lot of things in that shot you probably don't want in your system anyway (like mercury, yes that toxic metal is in fact in those shots) : http://drbenkim.com/flu-shot-ingredients-dangers.htm

I don't trust the flu shots.
I work for a company that has made it mandatory that we get the flu shots. We are PISSED off because they've taken away our choices.
First of all, I have never, and will never, receive a flu shot.
Secondly, I don't trust them. Influenza is one of the most virulent viruses out there, one of the ones that can mutate in the blink of an eye and form strain after strain after strain. Just two years ago, the vaccine for the flu didn't work because it only covers 3 different strains, and the strain that attacked wasn't one that the flu covered.
Furthermore, all this bullshit about H1N1 is ridiculous. I would NOT inject myself with something just thrown together like that, pushed out as fast as they can because OH MY GOD IT'S THE FLU...FROM A PIG?!?!?!?!?!? It's so freaking annoying. :stare:
Besides; I take a shitton of vitamins every day. I'm set. I just can't stand all this bullshit about freaking out over the flu. Well duh it can kill you if you don't take care of it. Ugh.

@ Miechan- I just find it amazing how much people freak out over Swine flu. The regular flu kills more people a year than the swine flu (so I've heard as of late). Like you said, I think people just spazz over it because it came from an animal first.
All the same, unless my immune system was extremely weak (because of a genetic disorder or something) I would not get that shot. If I had a baby I wouldn't even let my baby get it. So many kids are getting autism these days and people think it's because of all the shots baby's are forced to get (and these days they make the infants get the shots faster than when I was newborn in the 80's - vaccines against TB and the lot). When I have kids I'm making damn sure they give my kids their shots at a slow, but reasonable pace. None of this "we're saving you trips to the doctors by doing this faster" crap. I'll pay the extra money to go to the doctor more if it means my kid will be safe and healthy thank you very much.

I think its just the media being over exaggerated on this whole swin flu. Maybe its just a filler to talk about. Although why don't they talk about the bad stuff more, like about the side effects that the shots can give you rather than how many shipment of vaccines they are taking over to an area.

@Erailea, Yeah, I totally agree. The only difference between it and the regular flu is that it underwent zoonosis. I mean, seriously. Can't people see that the regular flu mutates and changes EVERY YEAR to something different? If it didn't, do they think that they'd still have to create a new vaccine...every year? I mean, if they would just look at the big picture, Mumps and Measles vaccines have been around for YEARS and they haven't had to be changed except for maybe a few modifications here and there. Granted, I haven't done research on that, so I don't know for sure, but regardless...you don't get a new vaccine for things like that every year. You may get a booster shot every 10 years or so, but regardless.
The flu is a virus. It just irritates me that so many people think the world is going to end because it came from a pig.
People can get rabies, can't they? That comes from a dog.
God, stupid people just kill me, you know? All this hype about Swine Flu is just a load of crap. If there was anything I learned in Microbiology, it was that using purell or other hand sanitizers and washing your hands frequently will keep you safe. So I carry purell on my keychain, wipes in the car, and I take vitamins every day.
I'm glad to see someone agrees with me, girl.

I'll be taking it later on after finals which end Nov 6th.
And the usual side effects should be normal. Seasonal flu shots have always had side effects for certain people as well such as swelling or headache. Totally normal.
What I am interested in is whether the vaccine is of dead H1N1 or weakened. If it is weakened I might be slightly worried. Other than that I will take one next month. Australia has a vaccine ready for everyone (we only have 21mil people afterall) so that's good. :D

@ Darek Khort- vaccines, as far as I am aware, are never made from a dead virus. It has to be living so your body can learn to combat it
@ Miechan - I know, seriously. And the flu shot, especially at the beginning of the season, isn't even for that years flu, it's for the year before. And because the flu changes every year, like you said, if it's a huge mutation the shot isn't going to do you any good at all.

I refuse to get the flu shot. The whole idea about injecting a dead virus (or semi alive or whatever) isn't appealing. And the whole thing about swine flu is absurd, I have had friends that got it over the summer, and guess what, they are alive and kicking, it lasted about 3 days and was like a normal flu for them, if you treat it you should be fine, all this crap about these shots is ridicules.

@Erailea, EXACTLY. I was just talking to a friend who's heading back to Virginia Tech today (we live in Maryland), and she doesn't want the shots, either. She also thinks it's RIDICULOUS (which it is) that my company has made it mandatory for employees to get the flu shots. Regardless, I'm not getting it. x.x

Yeah, don't get it.
Any time they want to give you a NEW kind of shot, just say no.
Cause my mom works at the hospital, and a lot of people have been getting sick and stuff from these NEW shots.
It can kill the pancreas and make people get diabetes.

I just got the shot yesterday, I do get it every year so the chances of me missing work decreases. It doesn't definitely stop you from getting the flu but it does reduce chances and make your case of the flu (if you do get it) to be less severe.

People get sick after flu shots, of course. It's how you're inoculated; they inject you with a small dose of the strain that's going around, which familiarizes your body with that particular pathogen. It enables you to ward off any future illnesses from that particular virus.
The injection itself is generally a "dead" virus, which just gives you the basic building blocks to read from.
Of course, these have to be created a year ahead of time, so it's tough to guess what strains will be out in public before it ever happens. This is why you get sick.
I'm not fond of flu shots. I have a good immune system, a healthy lifestyle, and I don't like the stiffness of my arm afterwards. I totally support them if you're all about getting shots, but I got all mine ages ago and I'm done for a while.

Just what I heard about the flu shots, those in the medical field are not truly that concerned about it. The media is hyping it up bigger than it really is. If you get H1N1 then you are sick just like with any other flu. Just stay home, get liquids in you, and your fine. Most people never experience severe symptoms. Even those that come in to the ER are only given liquids and tylenol, at least in my city that is the case. I don't think they are worth our time worrying over.

My friend had Swine Flu, my neighbor did. I think I had it too, and so did my sister. It was just like the regular flu. Nothing extreme. Unless you have a bad immune system, you should be fine. Just take some extra vitamin-C, or immune system boosters.

Nope, I haven't recieved mine yet, I need to go down next week and get it. My boyfriend got his last week and so far he has felt fine. If some people get sick afterwards its just because their immune systems were probably a little weaker to begin with.
I always get immunised against theese sort of things, I am also in the process of geting my cervical cancer jabs too.
If it can protect me agianst the most common of these diseases then I am happy. Plus for me and my boyfriend since we have an infant in the house shots are pretty inportant to us, I mean we don't want to pass any germs onto her.
