It's just..... rude. =/

Older people used to be honored, but not anymore in our society. It makes me not look forward to leaving behind my teen years, because every step i take after that will be a step towards "uncool-ness" and disrespect.

Just look at your average show on Nick or Disney. The parents, especially fathers for some reason, are portrayed as goofy old idiots who dont know anything, certainly not as well as their kids.

But on a lighter note, I usually get called "The Old Geezer" already, by my younger circle of friends. I was the first one to turn 16, and now the first to turn 18. I also like knitting. So it's kind of an on-going joke with them. xD

Who knows but the older you get it should be that people start calling you seasoned because you really do learn alot more.

On a lighter note as well, maybe they are called old farts because the older you get the less you can control your bodily functions, sad but true.

well, the word "geezer" actually means a queer, odd, or eccentric person and is usually associated with elderly men. the term actually came to be used around the 1880s, so people have been saying it for over a century. it has nothing to do with disrespecting old people.

"Old fart", on the other hand....I have no idea what's up with that. but i have never really heard it used in a negative way toward older people. i always hear it used in humorous conversation.

I do agree with Madam that "old fart" is used more humorously in conversations.

It is sad that older people are getting less and less respect today. I work with a few of them at my job and they're the nicest people to work with, instead of the younger people there :stare:

There's a song on the Spongebob Yellow Album called "You're Old". The artist of the song did a good job composing it XD

It's okay to like knitting. I do crochet and I've been doing it for half my life.

I agree that it is sad that older people start loosing respect from the younger generations. Kids these days are pretty much disrespectful to anybody older than them, especially the elderly. I never really called an old person an old fart or geezer. But just talking about old people in a joking way I've used "old farts". Mostly towards my parents. Usually say something like "they are like that/do that...(or what ever else) because they are old farts." :P

I totally agree, we need to respect the elders. I don't call them Old Geezer or Old Fart, I call them Elders. It's the nice thing to do. =3

People who think or talk bad about the elderly like that are horrible. The Elderly had the better era, look at ours now. It's sad, people who think like that are dumb kids. :sarcasm:

I noticed they closed the thread we all talked in...i'm sad >_<

but to answer the question,...uh...i would imagine it is because they are old, and people disrespect elderly people and say they smell....in a mean way ^_^;

I have no idea the back story behind that...but yeah, that's my two cents worth

do you think that gay marriage shoud be legal?

well in my opinion,
i do think gay marriage should be LEGAL becuase its the people's choice to choose whether or not if they want to be lesbian or gay or bisexual.
and it's not like..y'know,, they go around like gangs and be like' i want to be gayso..imma kill you!' y'know?
and yeah..PLUS!!
in my opinion
i think gay people and lesbian people are collie you trick!! :]

Let's see, I don't know that much about the topic, simply because i don't know all the reasonings behind why it is 'illegal' at the moment. But I would say...I agree, i think it should be legal. I think people should be able to decide their own lives with someone that makes them happy. Law have adapted over time, so i think this would be a fairly easy process. But that's my uneducated mind speaking ^_^ I like the thought of having a 'choice' so i think it should be extended to the people who wish to have it be so

farts are smelly and old people are, too?
i'm not really sure.. haha.
it's like an 80's or 90's phrase, not really sure when it came around.
but i do wonder how it was ever brought up.

As near as I can figure, "old fart" is a retaliation that the younger generation came up with to get back at the older people who were referring to younger people who irritated them as "young punks".
