I'm very much a CastleVania fan (III, IV, 64, Circle of the Moon, and SotN would be my favourites), and it's hard to find a better game in my collection to put me in the Halloween mood. I love the music and the atmosphere in SCVIV; it's just a shame that when the difficulty bumps up upon entry into Dracula's Castle, my lack of skill begins to show through. Nonetheless, it doesn't take from my enjoyment of the game even if I have to face Paula Aghoul and Fred Ascare (lol, terrible in-game puns) over and over again to get it right. I accidentally picked up the axe and lost my cross in this stage, which is making this boss battle particularly irritating. All well! Practice makes perfect, I suppose.

Anyway, I thought I would offer my greeting here to fellow fans of the game/series, particularly the ones who grew attached to CastleVania through Symphony of the Night, and who may have never tried the games that came well before it for varying degrees. Nothing wrong with digging Symphony - there is a lot that made that game good - but, it was a far departure from what came before it - and needless to say, it wasn't Alucard's first appearance at all. (Though I'm sure those fans who are very accustomed to his flowing locks might not like the fact that he once bore a vague resemblance to a young Solid Snake in a dollar store cape, back in official art back in the day. :D Here's an image of what I'm referring to: http://www.castlevaniadungeon.net/Im...p18alucard.jpg

Funny no?

Super Castlevania IV was an awesome game, the music really makes the game what it is. Symphony of the Night was one of my favorites actually. I personally would like to see Castlevania II and III remade like Castlevania Curse of Darkness. Old school games upgraded with better graphics always make me happy.

Lol. Fair enough. :) I totally respect your opinion regardless of whether it differs from mine.

I won't lie, I didn't enjoy Curse of Darkness because it recycled a lot, it seemed, from Lament of Innocence, and the whole Innocent Devil dealie... it felt a little too Pokemon-esque for my tastes. It also was a bit disappointing that a lot of the IDs seemed to share similar anatomical builds (fairies, mages, and golem-type creatures come to mind). When I first saw official art of Isaac looking oddly green and 'reptilian', I thought one would be able to fuse with different Innocent Devils and become some humanoid creature - how completely off the mark I was, lol.

Environments could have used more interactivity, and Trevor's eyebrows weirded my friend out. :D I DID like item forging (even though the idea of Hector *stealing* felt somehow odd) and the Boss Rush mode, even if I played the heck out of the latter. Dang fire demons and their very short window of opportunity for stealing items... :/

Anyway, all things considered, I'm not sure if II and III would work out well in 3-D unless they kept a lot of the platforming elements intact - all that sweaty-palmed jumping and maneuvering of the character that made us bash our heads in frustration and shake our fists at Medusa heads. No running down long, repetitive hallways with Hector's sprint-speed at a turtle's pace. XD Speaking of Hector, he doesn't even blink in his idle pose, whereas Leon does... makes me feel that his design was rushed a little.

If you're thinking of a 2-D to 3-D conversion similar to how Rondo of Blood was released on PSP - a 2-D platformer but with 3-D enemies/characters, then I'd love to see that.

But anyway, that's just me rambling on. I'm happy that you like the music in Super CastleVania IV - when I was in an online CV group a few years back, my general impression was that people weren't too fond of the dark graphics or the tunes. Bah, I say. :P Simon's cool, even if he looked a bit like Fabio back in the day.

At times, I kind of miss the CVs that had no RPG elements these days, even if that does take away a little from the replayability, perhaps. Do you?

Ee, and you dig Simon's Quest! That's really cool. :) Boy, has that game taken quite a beating... (I say this with a very particular YouTube video in mind.) I'm ashamed to say I've never gotten far in it. I think I owe it to not knowing what to do - and at the time, I had no sense that a place like Gamefaqs existed. I'm slow.

Well that was a rather insightful reply which deserves an insightful response!
Curse of Darkness was interesting in the fact that you had Innocent Devils, but honestly, a faerie?! An innocent Devil?! Naaa!!! In Symphony of the Night Alucard has a faerie familiar which sounds much better, and the faerie looked much more attractive and sounded more like a faerie. I liked how the faerie screamed if Alucard died. The bat familiar was just boring, but helpful! I really liked the little imp, he was a bit dynamic like the faerie familiar. I liked his little grunts as he would poke enemies with his little pitchfork. Hector was an interesting character but he definitely could have been improved upon for sure. You should try playing through as Trevor Belmont, it's really difficult! I think they should have included Alucard, Sypha, and Grant into the story as well, to make it more dynamic. I like free roaming environments where there are potential secrets everywhere you go.

I really think Simon's Quest would be an awesome free roaming conversion. I liked the game for its time as it has three different endings. My only gripe is how easy they made Dracula in the end. There is so much potential building on to make this a great game in 3D, as for Castlevania III, it may be a bit more difficult to pull off I agree. Damn those Medusa heads!

I liked the game although I thought it was an alternate game to the first Castlevania. The music really inspired me quite a bit as I played some of it on keyboard.

I sure do like CastleVania babble, especially when the person on the other end is nice! I'm not dropping some cheap flattery here - I've just seen a fair bit of rude, swearing-prone, and even bullying CastleVania fans in online groups. Not all people who adore the series are like that, thankfully. ...But anyway!

Yeah, Symphony had some nifty little familiars, and there was nothing quite like watching the little demon poke away at giant, fearsome Galamoth's knee. Pffft, innocent devils. Even the name in itself seems like one giant contradiction, come to think of it. XD I liked the fairy, too.

Indeed, I was hoping for an appearance of Grant, or Sypha, at the very least. I think the plot could become a little too loaded with ol' Alucard there since he lugs his complicated backstory everywhere he goes; his ongoing albeit justified angst would detract a little from Hector's rage and 'steal his thunder'. Not that that'd be a bad thing... :D

How the heck did you get through Simon's Quest with all those cryptic clues, and that crouch-and-let-a-tornado-do-the-work randomness? If anyone figured that out on their own, back in the day, they must have had a lot of time on their hands. There's no logical explanation for that tornado. XD But hey, who plays a CV game for logic? Also, what did you think about all those dungeons with fake floors?

I agree - that music is spectacular. And that's so cool that it has inspired you to play on the keyboard. Truly the mark of a fine soundtrack... good music is good music regardless of the sound-quality. There's some awesome 8-bit/16-bit stuff out there which many people don't consider "real music". Bah. Then it can be said that tapping on glasses to play a tune isn't real music because real instruments aren't involved. My frustration's making me go off on a tangent, lol. Sorry.

Well thanks! Everyone should be polite to each other on here, it's the courteous thing to do. I liked some of the music on Curse of Darkness, I would have done things slightly a bit different on that game. I would have called them summoned spirits or something else other than innocent devils.

Having meeting Grant and Sypha would have made the game so interesting. I would have made a full roaming adventure where Hector could have went to towns and interacted with more NPCs other than Julia and that mysterious time master guy from the future(Looks like and English Victorian of the sort!)
I would have had Hector gain extra skills through a training system where he would train with not only Trevor, but also Sypha, Grant, and Alucard.
I would have had him gain special skills from Grant such as climbing walls after doing a task for Grant. Then Hector could have gained some spells from Sypha after completing a task for her. Alucard I say because since he knows his father so well I could see him training Hector in a battle asking him if he's really ready to take on the Prince of Darkness by challenging him.

Simon's Quest cliff? I actually was told how to do that. That was a really tough game because you had to know so much stuff. It has the potential to be a really good game done in 3D though. The fake floors were cruel I thought but another challenge in the game. The music is just as good when performed on real instruments. People just have to give it a chance, it is definitely goth and some people just aren't down with the whole goth thing.
