Anyone ever heard of Don Bluth? Do you like his movies? Do you think they're better than Disney?
For those of you who don't know, some of the movies he and his crew have created are thumbelina, anastasia, all dogs go to heaven, the land before time, and an american tale. there are many less famous, but still good, films he has created also. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Bluth
And did you guys even know he existed or did you think all those movies i listed were created by Disney?

It's Don Bluth versus Disney! Who will win!

ooh, so he's the one who did those movies. everywhere i go, everyone thinks that they are also Disney movies, but they're not. i just didn't know who did them. i love those movies, especially Thumbelina and Anastasia. i see that he also did The Secret of NIMH. i love that movie too. i also see that he did a Troll in Central Park and the Pebble and the Penguin. i've only seen those once and would love to see them again.
i just read that he helped in some of the older Disney movies. that is just really cool!

yeah he used to work for disney, then he decided he didn't like disney so he and a few others quit working there and started their own thing. that's why his style is so similar to disney movies. and i heard that he puts some reference to the fact that disney is stupid in all or most of his movies, like something small in the background that most people wouldnt notice unless they're looking for it. :P

i love disney movies and grew up on both don bluth and disney but i like don bluths films better, i find he stays with the traditional 2D threw most of his movies where disney has done 3D and real life. so I'm don bluths side, plus i love Thumbelina and All Dogs Go To Heaven i watched those two so much growing up that my family got sick of them and hid them from me.

I don't really like to say which is better, because they're so different. They have completely different styles and have different strengths.

Like, Disney's great for a good old feel-good cheese-fest! They have better songs, and they're usually not too heavy. Even in the Lion King, which is generally considered to have Disney's saddest moment, the sad part is swiftly followed by chirpy songs and funny jokes.
But a Disney has never made me cry, where a Bluth can.

Don Bluth films are just so beautiful. The art is usually amazing. They tend to be led by the emotions of the characters, while a Disney is usually more powered by the narrative.

In a Disney someone is always either talking or singing, but Bluth films have these quiet, enchanting moments that Disney just can't pull off.
Like near the end of American Tale, where these brightly coloured little birds play in a bit of water. It has nothing to do with the story, it's just a lovely little piece of film.
There's a similar scene in Land Before Time, when some little "flappers" fight over a berry, then at the end one of them offers his berry to LittleFoot. It's actually quite moving, but not too over the top.

I think that's the main difference; Disney films are more fun, but Bluth films have more charm.

the older disney movies are really good, but what they're coming out with now isn't that great. that new movie coming out, The Princess and the Frog, looks like it might be good, and Enchanted was good, but that's about it. since they keep coming out with the 3D movies and such, it's just not the same. the old 2D movies i think are much better.
and one thing i noticed if i can remember right, Don Bluth movies seem a little darker than disney movies, yet they are still good. i think that's why i kinda like his movies more. it just seems more real that way, not so perfectly perfect like disney.

I like both... I never understand VS topics

Disney is long standing and can create likable characters and great villains. Though I did dislike how that one exec ran Disney into the ground. =_= the guy didn't even like animation.

With Bluth, it seems like he can't (or rather which studio he is working under) seem to figure out if he wants to create children films with mature subjects, or animated films for edgy kids.

I like Disney better but Don Bluth's movies are good too.

I love The Secret of NIMH, Thumbelina, A Troll in Central Park, The Pebble and the Penguin, and Anastasia.

Some of the great movies that made my childhood.

I actually prefer Don Bluth's movies over Disneys. Disney is good, but just something about how Don Bluth's movies are made makes me enjoy them a little more.
