I'm not sure about the other female characters, but from what I found on Wikipedia about Sakura...
Quote:
Although Sakura is the most recurring female character in Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto did not originally intend for Sakura to be the heroine of the series. Kishimoto attributes this to his being unable to draw good heroine characters, and fashioned Sakura as a girl who cannot understand men, the best example of a heroine he could come up with. Sakura's creation is a result of Kishimoto's desire to make a somewhat irritating character who was well-intentioned. Despite these elements, Kishimoto is fond of Sakura, as he feels that many of her personality traits are common among all people, thus giving her a sense of real humanity. When asked in an interview if there is something about Sakura's background that was never revealed, Kishimoto explains that he has never thought of Sakura as she is a "normal girl."
When designing Sakura, Kishimoto focused on her silhouette and created a costume as simple as possible. This is a divergence from the other main characters of the series, whose costumes are very detailed. The leggings are the most notable aspect of her design, as they are meant to show that she is very active. At the start of the series her leggings extended below her knees and closely resembled trousers. As Part I progressed, the leggings became increasingly shorter and tighter. Similar to his inexperience with drawing heroines, Kishimoto lacked the experience needed to make Sakura "cute" when he first began drawing her. Although he implies that her appearance has become cuter since then, Kishimoto and much of the Naruto manga staff agree that Sakura was "far from cute" at the start of the series.
...Maybe Kishimoto has trouble designing female characters in general?
I think that's probably right. There aren't really any strong female characters. the characters are there, but they're just not important. For instance, the characters which are "special", or prodigies or whatever are people like Naruto, Neji, Sasuke, Gaara, and the Akatsuki, I suppose. Including Orochimaru there are 11 Akatsuki (correct me if I'm wrong), and only one of them is female!
it really makes me mad. I wish there were some strong female characters.
Don't you think it's weird how every three-man cell has two boys and one girl? I always thought there should be more girls. And in the whole of Akatsuki there's only one female (no matter what people say about Deidara)
There are also only two female Orochimaru subordinates mentioned - Tayuya and Guren. And then there's all the guys, Kimimaro, Kabuto, Sakon (and his twin I suppose), Jirobo, Kidomaru and more.
I don't know much about the whole Pein and Konan thing ebcause I haven't read the manga, but I somehow just get the idea that the only reason she's in Akatsuki is because of him. Why does almost every female character's life revolve around a guy?!
lol Yes, the only reason Konan is in Akatsuki is because of Pein (and his ideals, I suppose) xD
I guess it has something to do with Japanese culture. Women are generally viewed as inferior there, so it naturally gets reflected in their manga too...*sigh*
Yes, that's what my friend said when I mentioned it to him. But no wonder they're viewed as inferior if those are the kind of role models they get!
Ah well, I suppose not all of the female characters are weak. Temari's definitely not, since she's a jounin while most of the main characters are chuunin.
So maybe he really is trying to sterotype girls. Like how school girls at least in mangas in Japan. Cept Temari, she was probley set as some sort of Tomboy becuse she was raised in the Sand.
OK, after watching the latest episode I hate Sasuke more than ever! How could he join Akatsuki?! And he wants to destroy Konoha! He was so sad that his brother died and now he's destroying the very thing that Itachi died for.
Haha. He's an idiot. When I saw that part I was like, "Wow, how gullible can you get? It's sooo obvious that the swirly-mask guy (I can never remember his name in English) is just manipulating you."
He is an idiot, especially for someone who's supposed to be a prodigy. After all, almost everything Itachi did was to protect Sasuke and keep him away from Madara/Tobi. Poor Itachi died for nothing...
When I first started watching FMA, Bleach and Inuyasha I didn't want to watch Naruto cause I couldn't stand the dubbed actors voice for Naruto. It was annoying. Then I saw a music video of Naruto and decided to watch it and loved it. Then I watched the first episode of Naruto and instantly loved it. So, I watched all 220 episodes and then started watching Naruto Shippuden. I've been watching the dubbed version and then went onto the episodes that are all subbed. So, far I'm up to episode 141 and it's getting good. I can't wait til they get those dubbed.
I hate watching them dubbed because American accents just don't fit those characters, but that's just my opinion...
I'm waiting for the next episode.
I loved that 8-tailed rapper!
