This is my go-to passage anytime I feel down. It helps to remind me that no matter what happens in this world, I cannot ever let go of the love that surrounds me.

Quote:
1 Corinthians 13

Love

1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I have read snippets of the Bible, but not the whole thing. I read a liturgical bible all the way through. The liturgical bible has all of the readings used at a Sunday Mass. I recently got a new bible with historical references, footnotes, and geographical maps. I also got a key chain with a quote from Psalm 119:114. Did you know that the word "bible" means library? The bible itself is a collection of books.

@alonegirl-rocks-the-world- I really like that verse too, but my favorite that helps me when ever i feel lost is Mathew 6:33.

@Kardra- My Grammy is very lacrative in the church here in town and I go with her after to help clean up, or for womens study, and I've seen one of those bibles there. I like being able too look up like, how area's look now compared to then. And I personally knew that the Bible was a collection of books, but I like to think of it as stories, because then it doesn't seem as much and doesn't make you look at it and go OMG THAT"S TOO BIG!! LoL.

I've read a lot of it, Kings. Right now I'm working through a daily devotional so I'm reading it more than usual. I don't read it enough though and I havent read it cover to cover. But each time I pick it up before I open it I pray for God to give me some understanding, that I might know what He means by His word :)

Innit? I've had some amazing messages, that's for sure. Truly amazing. Something about it makes me feel so light and fresh and weightless. Airy and free. My fiance says when he feels like that he feels like he could "take on Hell with a water gun," Which always makes me giggle. He has the calling to be a preacher and I'm always trying to encourage him.

That's awesome! The Water Gun thing reminds me of a movie from the 90's with Dennis Miller, called "Bordello of Blood" A Godly movie by no means but there was a Non-Denominational Charismatic Christian Preacher in there who fought vampires with Holy water inside a super soaker.

Of course. I have read the bible. And the times I did read it, I was forced to by my parents. You see, they're Jehovah Witnesses. And if no one knows what that is, someone who doesn't believe in paranormal stuff, witchcraft and wizardry, porn, birthdays, christmas, halloween, etc... But no, not me. Honestly, I want to be Christian. All my life, I've been forced into being a Jehovah's Witness. I DON'T WANT TO BE THAT! I want to go to church, go to chruch fundraisers! Gah! But I will in time. Once I'm old enough to get out of this hell hold. T_T

I think everyone should choose what they want to believe. A parents job does not involve choosing their child's religion, and it should never be as such. There is nothing more personal than religion. It's what you believe. So I think you should follow your own path regardless of what your parents say. My only advice is to research all of them before you pick one. Obviously that is your choice, but I always think it is better to be knowledgeable.

I'm a Christian, but don't really sit down to read or study the bible very often. I mostly get my bible fix at church.

The bible is an interesting thing. It has been translated so many times by so many people, and even translated from translations. It has to be taken with a grain of salt. The translators could have used certain words in their translations to shape the scripture to their own ideas. Some words just don't translate well (Ex: What has been interpreted as 'homosexual males' could also refer to 'male prostitutes'-- a different group). It also has to be taken in context. God is often represented as father, or a masculine figure in the bible. The bible was written in a time when women were seen as less than men, and was written by men.

If we all took the bible literally all the time, the shellfish market would not exist, and no one would cut their hair.

Oh My... Yeah.. You had it rough growing up I can tell. They are just like the mormons, who "use the Bible" but don't really believe what it has to say. Both very legalistic religions who expect their members to be "perfect" Jehova's Witnesses and Mormons aren't Chirstians. Real Christianity isn't about forcing people to conform to their totalistic flawed doctrines. I pray that if you really want to know Jesus Christ the way I know him, you call out to him and say, "Lord Jesus, I've been taught this way or the high way all my life but please reveal to me real truth."

Please my sister. Don't give up on Jesus. Because he Really is the way to God. -hugs tight-

Well If your mind has been regenerated by being Born Again, the Bible becomes much less of a Chore than for those who've not ever received Christ as Savior and been born again. Today I read a short passage about not boasting but to boast in my weakness. So I shall. I found it to be quite profound actually. I am not strong for I am weak but in my weakness Christ's power is made perfect. I'm but flesh and bone prone to weakness but Christ who's eternal gives me the power to make the best of each situation.

I've read parts of the Bible. Not as much as I should haha. But I've read Matthew, which I liked. And Hewbrews 11, the Faith Chapter, I like that one, too.
