I often get called a lame-ass for that, but I don't really care. It's not lame to be smart and prevent myself from falling into the wrong crowd. Falling into the wrong crowd can ruin my life. I'm not going to do that.

Ah, I see. Then they definitely should have slowed down for you. But I don't know them, so who am I to judge. Just sounds like things weren't going as planned, and it always sucks when that happens.
