Yow might want to edit your post there. It posted twice with the same thing XD

I find it funny how Meyer didn't fully create a world, and the one she did create, she botched up and broke.

Definitely Potter.

Rowling didn't just create a story, she created a complete universe. She created rules and laws, procedures, an entirely new sport among other things. Her story is so faceted and meticulous. Plus she's an excellent writer, and her ability to convey her points and provide imagery were on point.

It's not that I'm a twilight hater, I just don't think that there really is too much to the book. I think that Meyer is an "okay" writer, but she's nothing special. I think the plot for twilight was good, but it could have been executed a lot better. I found reading it to be a bit painful, tbh, and I didn't go any further than the first (I tried to, but I really just could not do it.)

Harry Potter. i could relate to the characters more and i actually felt sorry when some of them died. i cared about the characters. loved the Weasley twins? <3
though, i didnt really like the end. just hate Harry with Ginny.

Twilight. just no. the writing reminds me of something a teenager would write and the fact that Bella was such a Mary-Sue? and the relationship with Edward was soo not healthy. and the end? no. just, just never. and vampires should never sparkle.

I can't get over the fact that everybody always wants to compare Twilight and Harry Potter, even though they're both two completely different series with absolutely nothing in common, other than being very popular young adult novels. :\

But I can talk about both of them, as I've read all of the books and seen all of the films in both series. And I've been to Forks, WA.

Harry Potter has characters that you can actually relate to and they make mistakes and they act like humans, and it's sad when they die. The books go over actual issues, like racism and government and the media and propaganda and war and family. The universe is huge and elaborate real and it draws you in and leaves you feeling kind of empty at the end, when you've finished reading the books.

Twilight is horribly written and the characters are all one-dimensional and flat. Bella is a whiny Mary-Sue who can't do anything for herself and is obsessed with Edward to the point that it's scary. Edward is just as whiny as Bella, and he's a creepy stalker and emotionally abusive. He watches her while she sleeps, he won't let her choose her own friends, he tells her to lie to her family. Why does everybody think that's romantic? It's not. It's creepy and psychotic. Robert Pattinson himself put it quite nicely: "If Edward wasn't a fictional character and you met him in reality he is like one of those guys who would probably be an axe murderer or something."

But Jesus, don't even get me started about the sparkling vampire thing.

I think that's a pretty strange comparison. It's my opinion that they're too different from each other to really be compared. Besides supernatural elements, one is a pseudo-epic tale about good versus evil, some social issues such as racism, loss, and the transition from innocence into adulthood, the other is about a co-dependent, obsessive teenage girl with various different mental complexes and her emotionally abusive, self-loathing boyfriend who happens to be a vampire. One appeals to people of all ages and genders (though females of ranging ages are probably more common, as is such with most low-fantasy stories) while the other appeals almost solely to tween girls and bored housewives. One is, as I said before, a tale of good versus evil and love versus power, the other is a romance restrained by its author's own modesty and moral beliefs as well as her limited writing ability and lack of an editor.

Now, I am not saying that Harry Potter is high literature or should be lauded as such, but comparing it to Twilight is just... off. They're not really that comparable.

well see how the whole Bella/Edward relationship is just a huge ripe off the Angel/Buffy and it makes a mockery out of every other vampire on the planet......and see how Harry Potter is a pretty original story line im gonna say....................Harry Potter kicks ass

James, if you're signing every post it's actually against the rules...
That being said, I never watched Buffy but Twilight is just so unoriginal and cheesy x.x

I always used to be a huge fan of Harry Potter. I never liked Twilight. For some reason, Vampires never interested me very much. I always thought they were kind of over rated (no offence to those who like Twilight,) but Harry Potter I can stand to read/watch if I was forced to. Under my own will, nawh (: There's my opinion.

One's a semi-original and very well written series addressing many topics such as coming of age and racism, the other is a horribly written threat to gender equality.
Any questions? :3

None at all, sir XD

People are like.."But Alice can read the future!"

One semi-decent female character among many crappy ones is no justification. That, and her power isn't even as good as any male character. It's uncertain, whereas the male vampires' powers have certain effects.

I think hands down, Harry Potter is way better. I never read Twilight or even seen the movies, but I don't ever plan on it. I hate the series alot. The way vampires are portrayed is highly disgusting to me. So I would rather read, Harry Potter, like I already have.

I started Harry Potter first, but finished the Twilight series first. I think that i prefer the Harry Potter series more. I don't really like the plot of the Twilight series much and found that the Harry Potter ones are better.

I am a hardcore Harry Potter fangirl XD I can't help it. I was fine with Twilight until it became blown out of proportion. I read the Twilight series before it was popular, and I liked it. Now, I'm not such a big fan. Here's my reasoning for liking Harry Potter more than Twilight:
Harry Potter is about doing what's right in the face of adversity, facing your fears, and finding inner strength.
Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.

I don't really think you can compare the two, as the only thing they really have in common is that they are both fantasy series.

Either way, Harry Potter is a better series in my opinion. J.K. Rowling put a lot of detail and background into her story and she created a whole world. All in all, she is a better writer than Stephenie Meyer - and she has a better editor.

I like Twilight, but I love Harry Potter.

Well that's an easy answer Harry Potter. Twilight is a poorly written story about a stalker and a depressed girl. The firs book is total crap the only way to get through that bundle of crap is to shut off your mind. Which is why I think so many preteens love it, they have no mind to shut off. I will admit to reading all the books, which gives me the right to say how crappy it is. I am not just merely repeating what others have said about the book I am stating what I have personally seen. First complaint how can a girl find a pasty, sparkling, and emo guy attractive with out thinking he is gay? or at least bi? Second a werewolf that is not a werewolf! seriously WTF! how can you call them werewolfs the first 3 books then go and say that they really are not werewolfs but shape-shifters that shift in to wolfs. Come on thats not right! Oh and the last book was more bs then the rest of the books combined. That right there my friend is a lot of bs. First off to try and explain why Jacob was so wrapped up in Bella is because of the fact that he's imprint was her daughter! first off how the hell could the Stalker and Bella have sex? There is no blood pumping through his body in order to even get a boner. So how could she have even gotten prego? Well I'm tired of thinking about the book so I will stop here, even though I could come up with more things to say about it. Oh and on a last note I did enjoy the books but realize that they are not the best in the world, and because of the fan girls that clam other wise is why I tear apart the book.

Harry Potter was written for my age group...when I was in the third grade. It's a plot that grows up with you (which is what made it so amazing in the first place). I suggest reading the series. Once you go Rowling you don't go back.

Book one (or most of it) contained the only logic in Breaking Dawn, IMO... Didn't like it, but at least there was logic there.

So the fact like Edward is abusive is not going to change your mind about the series?

Support for this argument includes the following (and this is just a quick list):

Quote:
1. Edward is controlling and domineering
2. Edward has an unequal share of authority over the relationship
3. Edward threatens suicide
4. Edward manipulates Bella into marriage
5. Edward actively attempts to prevent Bella from seeing her friend (removes engine, has her kidnapped)
6. Edward encourages Bella’s isolation from others

If you copied this directly from the Twilight Sucks forum you might want to put it in quote boxes. Just saying this list sounds disturbingly familiar.. xD
