Hmm.. that's kinda sad to hear. Sorry bout that Clair. But that pretty much goes on everywhere... even here in Afghanistan. Though... it kinda happens in a different way but being born into such a country makes your life expectancy much shorter than if they were born somewhere else. I feel bad for some of these kids. Especially this one girl that I met out in one of the villages. If I could adopt any kid here, I would have adopted her.

@ Clair - Well, I sure hope that the rumor isn't true, then.

And yeah, you seem to always be talking about deaths. A shame that so many people seem to be depressed there.

I don't exactly live in Afghanistan. I mean, I guess I live here for the time being because I'm deployed here but there is no way that I would live in this country. But if I did... I'd make myself a castle out of mud, cause they live in these mud/grass houses and they make them so small. There is so much dirt and grass here, they could make anything they wanted and have as many bedrooms as they wanted but I guess the only thing that is really stopping them from having anything that they want to have would be their own imagination. I'm telling you, give these people TV and they wouldn't want to fight anymore. Then again, it might just make them more angry about all the things that they don't have but it might inspire them tochange for the better and make everyone's lives better.

Ah. So you're in the military. Nice. Mind if I ask what section? Marines, etc?

Well, there are ups and downs to having things like that in societies.

I'm in the Army, a combat medic! Best MOS out there! Ha-ha! I like my job but if there was something else that I would do to stay in, I wish I could combine combat medic and linguist and combat photographer. It would have everything that I love all rolled into one ^^

They need something over here. Girls start having kids at about the age of 12, or whenever she "is a woman." They have absolutely no rights. The one girl I met she was so inquisitive and talkative. I hadn't ever met a girl like her out here. I wish I could take her out of here and give her a real education so that she would have a chance at a good life. The only thing that she can look forward to is having a lot of kids with an old(er) man... Being here makes me grateful for the rights that we have in the United States and everything that we take for granted. The way that some women just use their bodies when they have a chance to have a really good education and grow as a person... blah blah blah... sorry  I think I went off on a tangent on that one. ha-ha!

I'd do photography . . . not sure I want to be a combat one, mind you. >.>

I don't mind a tangent . . . It's really just a matter of wether or not my attention span with last long enough for me to finish reading it. >.<

Would there be any way at all that you could adopt her, Zeph? Probably not, huh? :x
And yes, things like that are so horrible. In countries like that, old men always marry very young girls, and usually more than one, right? Its disgusting. D:

Yeah I don't think that there would be a way to do that cause she'd have to be given up by her parents and I'm sure that they would never do that. I'm sure there would be a ton of paperwork to do as well.

It is pretty gross. Men are just gross to begin with. But here their beliefs are that if you have enough money and can afford it you can have up to 4 wives. I think I would hurt someone if they thought they could do that.. or I'd run away if I was a kid here myself. I mean if you don't HAVE anything to begin with, it really can't get much worse.

It's an entirely different culture there, Zephi. And as much as I loathe personal attacks, you make yourself sound as if you have absolutely no idea what goes on in the world and remain ignorant in your own country's morals.

These traditions, while not always agreeable or to par with human rights, have been practiced for centuries before we even thought of exploring the lively East coast of the Americas. It's so deeply embedded in their politics, traditions, history, and culture that many don't understand another way of living. The values aren't the same; having a big house and a hummer isn't a value many in other countries have. Even worse is that the way we live, the ideas that you have for the perfect life; a 'proper' education and life outside of Afghanistan isn't possible without war and fear mongering somewhere else. It's one of the most heinous truths about our culture.
