I haven't seen this wonderful role playing game mentioned yet and it kind of surprises me. There are two different versions of this game and one of them is on the X Box Three Sixty and the other is on the Play Station Three. The one on the Play Station Three is the better deal because it is enhanced with more items, more characters, more outfits for the main three characters, and has more story line involved. The game is about Frederick Chopin, a Romantic Era composer known to us as the Poet of the Piano who is on his death bed somewhere in his own little musical world between life and death. Chopin is actually the main character of the game, but shares the spot light with Polka, a fourteen year old terminally ill young girl who can use magic as a result of her illness and represents Chopin's real life sister Emilia, who died of turberculousis at the age of fourteen. Both terminally ill in the game with the ability to use magic and the other two main characters Alegretto a sixteen year old who takes care of his younger brother Beat and eight year old photographer want to be. Allegretto who has a hard time admitting his true feelings for Polka decides there must be a way to cure Polka of her disease(one of the sub plots and the mineral powder issue) and set off on an adventure of a lifetime.
Game rating one out of ten? I give it a 9.75, Chopin should have gotten another outfit as well, and it would have been nice to see the items change they hold(Weapons.) I love the story and the characters as it is endearing and will stand the test of time I believe, especially for musicians/and those who love classical music.

10/10 I have the PS3 version and I'm in LOVE with this game!

I don't know what it is about Chopin's voice, but I love to hear him talk.

They chose great voice actors for the characters, I love the emotion that and the depth they put into each character, the writers of the game covered just about every base. I love the game too! I wished you could have had Solfeggio, Polka's mother join the party too. There was something special about her mother that I didn't quite understand the connection there. Right now I'm trying to bring Claves back and it's really hard! I have everyone at level seventy plus!!!

Good lord, at level 70+ you should breeze through the Mysterious Unison. What party members are you using?

I'm level 53 and I keep on dying against Legato and Count Waltz, the second to final boss. Ugh, I really want to beat the game but I'm not motivated to grind again.

On the other hand, the mysterious unison is a good place to grind. :P

Particularly since you can warp close to the bottom once you've beaten it and run amok on the big enemies with chain combos. There are a couple more very useful special attacks that will make Waltz and Ruined Body a lot easier.

Fighting Rondo the second time in the labrynth and then the boss after her are the hardest in the game. Everyone including Claves are at level seventy-one to level seventy-three.

What party level are you at?

Edit: I also realize that those are the "hardest" bosses in the game, but they were still a cakewalk at lvl 70 for my party, which is why I was curious.

I'm at party level six, maybe you're just really good. I'm waiting until I get everyone at level eighty, then I'm going to try again. I'm wondering if the ending is different if you have Claves in the party?

I've played the ps3 version of the game and loved it! Although at times I was a little annoyed by the overall cheesy goody goodyness of the game I thought that for a "historical" video game it was really fun, cute, and worth the play. The characters seemed to be well thought out, its definitely a game that I would recommend to anyone.

Cheesy is not always bad, sometimes the world needs a little cheesyness. Polka was a girl with a pure heart who had a pure astra (soul) so that was why she was always so good. I would have loved to see several years later when Polka and Allegretto get married and the whole, as cliche as it may be, living happily ever after. The ending made me cry, with the whole death lights or Heaven's Mirror. It is a game filled with powerful music and emotion that will make the story an instant classic. I would buy an anime of this game if they had it as a movie as well. I liked being able to play as Serenade and Prince Crescendo. I wished you could have gotten to play as Solfeggio too.

I totally agree on the wishing to see Polka and Allegretto years later that would have been awesome... I'm pretty sure now because that was mentioned (I thought about that as well when the game ended) that I'm going to be looking for fanfictions lol. The fact you got to play the story through many of the different characters was part of the appeal.

Yes, being able to play as twelve different characters was a huge appeal for me. I hear they will make an Eternal Sonata but with what composer I have not heard. I have played through this game at least twice already. I'm doing the third time trying to get Claves back, but it is really difficult.

lol I haven't bothered I rented the game and busted through it in about 4 days of just constant playing, but after I read some stuff on it I missed a lot so I was debating buying it and going through and trying to get all the extras. I think it would be worth it for them to continue the Eternal Sonata ..theme... at least with the different composers, it is different and if they're all executed as well as this one was then I can see it selling, I know I'd play it.

I really, really want to play this game, but I don't have a PS3 (or an x-box, lol).
It looks adorable and it's very unique.

*sigh* I guess I'll just have to wait until some more Shin Megami Tensei games come out for the DS to play something different.

I wouldn't have been so critical if I realized you were in a third playthrough. :)

Oh it's worth having in your collection. I have played through it twice already and trying to finish a third time. This is a game I would play a year down the road, if I have the time of course. The music was a huge factor too, especially since I am a musician myself. The little snipets of extra stuff are really nice. More dialogue and story and harder bosses too! I love challenge!! I'm hoping they do Mozart next time because he is my other favorite composer!!

@Siri ~ The play station threes are coming down in price, investing in one is so worth while. You should do it or ask Santa to get it for you for Christmas!!

@Kinmotsu ~ It's ok man, I like to grind. It's the whole fun of being able to destroy enemies in less than few blows.

Kole: do you just make all the japanese rpg topics around here lol? This is the only 360 game i own. I dont even own a 360 to be honest yet i own this game. I was playing it on my friends 360 but i never get a chance any more. My save is finished im not quite sure how far i got into it.

From game FAQ i think i was at the end of Wah Lava Cave, i remember going though a cave that had fish and lava. So that seemed to be about mid way?.? Anyway ill be getting a play station three soon so im going to rebuy the game for that. I like the nice shiny cover for the play station three version anyway ^^.

I also have the sound track on my computer along with a nice Eternal Sonata poster, on my bed room wall back from the games release.

Is this connected with Ephemeral Phantasia at all? Just curious as some of the general ideas seem similar (although I could be way off as it has been years since I played EP).

Either way it sounds very good and I am adding it to my list of must have PS3 games. Sadly I won't be getting my PS3 until January, unless I get real lucky in December and can afford it somehow.... but with xmas presents for everyone else I don't think that will happen lol.

Apparently so, I love Japanese role playing games. They are some of the greatest in my humble opinion. They also have it on Play Station Three which has considerably come down in price, I know you know that but just saying that is the best version available. Wah Lava Cave is about the midway point in the game. Make sure you have good party for when you meet The Pirate Dolce and her crew, because she is a real challenge!!
