Teh Plot

In this world, there are children we call "Gifted". Those children have the ability to harness amazing powers. A medical company new in San Fransisco has taken it upon themselves to collect these "Gifted" and contain them for reasons unknown. Recently, though, a pair of Gifted have found the means to escape the company's facilities and are now left to hide within the streets of San Fransisco.

It's just how I roll...
A man of few words, in short. Alexi doesn't talk much, and is more of a listener. He isn't a rash person and puts careful thought into his actions. Really, though, the thought he puts into his actions is more like scheming. Instead of using his brilliant mind for academics and such, Alexi prefers to put his intellect to use making up elaborate plans either for escaping or pranking people. While still captive, Alexi was somewhat of a big brother to the other children as he's a very friend and caring person, though he doesn't make a big show of it. When fighting is the only time that you can see Alexi's temper, but it doesn't really flare up unless someone he cares about is in question.

These things are behind me now...
Alexi was born to your average family of regular joes. His dad slaved away in a cubicle by day, his mother worked close to home as a waitress- as salaries these days weren't big enough for just one parent to work- and his older sister did her best to be the star of her school. For awhile, things progress normal until Alexi started to talk. There'd always been something odd about him, like the way he knew first thing in the morning if he was going to get a shot at the Doctor's that day, but his parents thought he was just a crybaby and passed it off. It was only when he started predicting when his sister would come home late, or be sent home sick and such that his parents began to worry. Suddenly, his mother stopped bragging about her oh-so-cute son an began focusing all her public attentions on her daughter. Alexi was no longer brought outside, but kept within the confines of the house where he'd never be seen or have a chance to show his abnormality to others. Everyone just assumed that the baby had died and didn't push the matter further, leaving Alexi all alone except for his family.

Until Alexi was twelve, he lived like that- the black sheep of the family no one wanted to acknowledge. His sister had been strictly instructed to never mention her brother on the agreement he would sleep in the basement so she could still have sleep-overs. His mother took up the night shift at the place where she was a waitress so that she could home school the boy and not have to worry about social services. Other than that, he was left well alone, locked in their finished out basement. It wasn't a bad place, just a bit too cold in the winter. It had carpets, bright wallpaper and all of his sister's old toys, even some from when his father was a child. Still, he was sick of the lack of social interaction and- as he got older- the lack of things to do. Seeing her son's unrest with his conditions as a sign of bad things to come, his mother sold him off to Zypheria for enough money so that the family could survive on his father's salary alone. For his family, things returned to how they should have been. They had another baby to fill the gap he'd left and his sister didn't have to hide things from her friends anymore. And for Alexi, things didn't change much either. His life had never been normal, and so he didn't think anything of his situation until the other kids started remembering, talking about how life had been before Zypheria. Xander's breakdown was the final straw, though. Seeing that as a sign he was in a bad place, Alexi took the initiative and staged a break out, releasing the two of them to the streets.

The face in the mirror...
Alexi is a rather tall person for his age group at about 5' 10". His hair is a wiry mess of redish-brown, usually kept out of his face in a short, stubbly ponytail. His skin is rather pale, as he's never really been exposed to much sunlight, and sunburns easily. He has a muscular build, but nothing above average. His eyes are a deep shade of blue in a slate color that could be easily confused with grey.

Xander, orphaned at birth was taken into the care of a medical doctor named Ishito Yoshi. He loved the boy like his own flesh and blood. When Xander began to show signs of a Gifted, Ishito grew worried instead of excited. He knew with this stance in the new medical company Zypheria they would become interested in his beloved son.
Needless to say, he was right. When Xander was nine, Zypheria took him from his father and wiped his memory. Slowly, they made him into a fighting machine.
But, on the eve of his 16th birthday the memories began to flood back in on poor unsuspecting Xander. He snapped, and began to attack those he found nearest and dearest... the doctors who experimented on him. Due to his lack of control, Xander was placed in solitary confinement: a tube filled with a sterile saline solution with wires monitoring his every move.
Somehow... Xander escaped. And now, their longest run project is running the streets. Zypheria will do anything, anything to get him back.

((I've assumed Xander to be sleeping as the events of the post would be as their waking up; I hope you don't mind.))

"Did you see-" "I know was it-" "No way! I though he-"

Little clipets of conversation dripped through Alexi's sleep haze, easing his mind back into its wakeful functions. At first, he was confused- it sounded like the gossip he'd overheard as a child when his sister had friends over, but on a larger scale. There were the voices of tittering girls ranging in age from teen to young adult and the sounds of many many feet walking past. Business men in clean starched suits and old women in their frumpy clothes; that one's going to drop her bag soon, an unknown source informed him, but he was used to such updates. They'd been there as long as he could remember, and they'd ceased to make him wonder. As expect, there came the sounds of a grocery bag hitting the ground and, soon after, an old woman yelling at someone. A young kid on a skateboard; he bumped her and upset the bag. But Alexi could have cared less. There were more important things much closer to him, he remembered, and an even more dire task at hand.

Blinking the sleep from his eyes, Alexi looked over to the sleeping lump beside him. It was Xander, one of the boys from Zypheria and the only one he'd been able to take away from there when he escaped. All of their nights since then had been endless hours of running, concluding just in time for them to find some damp little corner to hole away in until their exhaustion left and they could run again. It hadn't been that long- only a couple of days- but Alexi was already tired of running. If it hadn't been for his fellow escapee, he would have already turned chicken and returned to Zypheria, tail between legs. After all, what was there for him here in the world outside those facilities? The family he could barely remember seemed so far away from him now that it seemed impossible to him that he could reconnect with them so easily. But Xander- he had no reason to go back, as far as Alexi could see. So instead of heading back to where he'd know he'd always have three meals a day, Alexi had chose to keep running. The busboy is taking out the trash now; he's in the kitchen, headed for the side door.

"Rise and shine, kiddo," he coaxed the boy next to him with a soft voice. Since their escape, Alexi had been terrified of speaking above a whisper. If he spoke to loud they might hear, and if they heard they'd find the two of them and then- But Alexi's paranoid ramblings never got farther than that. He was just convinced that if kept a low voice and a low profile, he could make everything turn out alright eventually. Or so he hoped. What he knew for sure was that if the busboy stuck his head out into the alley to get rid of the trash and saw them, it would be over. He'd call the cops to come pick up some hobos and that's where it would end for them.

Xander groaned softly, curling away from the boy's touch. A can next to his head rattled and tipped over, a mouse scurrying from it. The lithe body of the teenaged boy was crumpled in a fetal position, his knees tucked close to his chest. On his neck, and on every neck of every Gifted taken by Zypheria was a tattoo. He shivered and his lips parted a little more, the sounds of the city not bothering him in the slightest.

The busboy threw the garbage into the dumpster, then turned around, walking back in, not payin them any mind. Xander of course was thankful for that, even in his sleeping state. He didn't want to wake up. He just wanted to stay asleep. Because of course, when he was awake... he felt hunger. The two hadn't eaten in over three days and the already frail Xander didn't need any help loosing weight. His dark hair falling over his face. He sighed, his lips parting slowly as his eyes slowly opened. He rolled over, stretching out and letting his eyes land on Alexi. "Nn." Was all he said to his friend. "I need something to eat Alexi..." He whined, his gentle looking face covered with a mask of pain.

The city seemed to grow louder now that Xander was awake, almost as if it had been quiet, knowing he was sleeping. He rubbed his forehead, staring evenly at Alexi before sighing and leaning against the side of a trashcan, holding his belly as it grumbled and roared. He'd reached his limit. He needed food now. Or he'd chew off someone's arm.

((Editing in descriptions to my profile~ Forgot to put it in. >.< Note: All addresses I use are approximate, but close to accurate.))

"And just where am I supposed to get food?" Alexi asked when the boy beside him finally seemed to have woken up. While his words may have seemed sharp, the tone was not. It was spoken more like playful banter, as if the idea of finding accessible food was somehow a joke and really, it was. If Alexi knew where to get food, it was a sure thing that he would have kept Xander well feed these past few days. To Alexi, watching someone else in pain was just as bad as being in pain himself.

Frowning a little, Alexi mulled over an idea he'd been toying with. He wasn't sure about Xander, but he knew that he himself had family still living in the city. While it was a bit of a stretched, there was the faint possibility that they might be willing to help out the son that they had sold off so easily. Most likely, they didn't know that he knew just how they'd gotten rid of him, and if he played ignorant, they might pretend to be hospitable. As long as he could get food and possibly temporary shelter until he an Xander could figure out what to do, then it would be a success. The only problem was, having never been outside his own home, Alexi didn't exactly know how to find it.

Closing his eyes tightly and tilting his head towards the ground, the redhead tried to focus. Though he'd been having his powers honed for accuracy while back at Zypheria, he'd never tried to gain information on anything this obscure before. Furrowing his brows, he thought back on any memory of his family, anything at all. Alexis was a brunette, though she'd always wanted to be blond, he recalled, receiving a vivid image of his sister, age 9, She'd be in highschool now... And there it was. Alexis Davis, age nineteen and just finishing up her high school education this year. Held back in seventh grade because she missed too many days. I wasn't what he was looking for, but it proved that he could find the obscure data if he tried.

As if by miracle, pure perseverance or the lingering connections he still had towards his family, an address popped into his mind. 1358 Webster Street. It was short, to the point, and completely useless. Well, that was being a bit too harsh. It wasn't completely useless, simply Alexi had finally realized that, even with an address, he had no hope of tracking down the place. Opening his eyes he sigh, rubbing his temples. It'd only been about a minute, but the extreme concentration required to get the data he'd gotten was enough to bring on a migraine, and he could already feel it developing.

"Hey, kiddo," he grumbled in a low voice, "What do you know about navigating around this place?"

((I'm sorry it's so short. @[email protected] ))

Xander blinked. He didn't remember much of the city, but he recalled a few streets and how to get there from main streets. He exhaled and he sat upright more, his back pressing against a dumpster. The scent coming off of it was horrid, but it made Xander's stomach rumble. He was so hungry.

"I remember a few streets... Mason, Polk... Embarcedero." He ran his hands through his hair and looked at Alexi. His blue eyes wide and full of hunger and pain. Since his memories had come back, he had set his mind to wanting to find his father. His Yoshi. "But... I don't know how to get there..." He rubbed the back of his neck and let his eyes wander down the cement, which was cracked, and smelled of sour tar and urine.

The boy shifted and he curled his legs up, his knees pulled close to his chest. "Why?" He leaned closer, his hair moving in a breeze that wafted past them. It was cold and it made his skin break out in goosebumps. Xander bit his lip hard, his cheeks flushing a bright pink.

((Sorry for the late/slow reply. I'd typed one earlier, but my computer ate it... That and I haven't had my computer back till now. Sorry again. >.< This is all I can manage for now.))

Instead of saying anything further, Alexi simply watched the boy beside him. He seemed cold, to say the least, and his cheeks were flushed an interesting shade of pink. Though Alexi couldn't place the feeling, nor explain its prescense with it being cold out, there was a brief feeling of warmth that welled up from inside of his chest. Sighing a little, he leaned forward and pulled his arms from his jacket, passing the garmet to the boy beside him.

"Here, use this Xander," Alexi instructed the boy as he held out the warm lump of fabric to the cold lump of boy, "You look like you need it more than I do."

Xander looked at his friend, his eyes sparkling slightly. "Ahh... Thank you Alexi." He smiled and cuddled close to the blanket before he slid his slender, long arms inside the sleeves. He whimpered lovingly at how warm it was. His pale legs were exposed, since the boy only had shorts on. All of his hairs stood up.

Scars littered his otherwise pale skin and he let a hand glide over his legs, a sigh slipped from his lips and he leaned against the dumpster. "Well... we can't just sit in this alley for the rest of our lives." He rubbed his neck and let his eyes wander around the alley, then up to his friend. He looked over at a can, the thing floating for a moment before it fell to the ground. His powers still hadn't recovered from their massive use at their escape.

To be honest, he didn't know when they would be at their full power again.

A car sped by, a black van... which was clearly Zypherian. Xander gasped, standing. "They're looking. For us, Alexi. We have to run. We have to find a place to hide." He was panicking, and he stood. But his legs gave out on him and he crumpled back onto the ground into a puddle of Xander-style-freakout.

Alexi chuckled a little in response to Xander's reaction. Really, he hadn't expected the boy to be so delighted at having received a warm jacket but he didn't question it. The air was bitterly cold this early in the morning- at least to him- making warmth a much desired luxury. As he sat pondering this, there was the sound of metal clinking aginst the pavement. Turning quickly too look towards the source of the sound, he saw an empty can coming to a rest. Xander was playing with his powers; he wanted to know- but Alexi blocked out the thoughts. Xander's thoughts and motives were his own buisness.

Detecting what might have been a sad expression from the boy, Alexi reached out his hand and ruffled his hair. "You have a point there," he added in reply to Xander's comment. They really couldn't stay in the alley forever, much less on the streets. To Alexi, it seemed logical to go to the only place he knew- his home. Still, before he could formulate his plan, Xander began completely freaking out over something. As the boy crumpled back down to the ground, Alexi quickly looked towards the street to see a dark van. Closing his eyes briefly, he tried to ascertain if they'd seen them. They think they saw something, but they're not sure, the Well of Knowledge- an nonexistent source Alexi often credited as the source of his information- informed him, to which he added his own thoughts, If we hurry up and get moving, they might not notice we were every there.

Crouching and facing his back towards Xander, Alexi prepared to sprint as far away as possible. "Climb on quickly," he instructed the boy, peering back over his shoulder to watch the road carefully. If Xander was unable to run, than it meant he'd have to give him a lift. Though he was tired as well, there was no time for arguing or staggered walking. They had to get out of there and fast. Alexi wasn't sure just where to go, but he was sure that as long as that van didn't see them they could just wing it.

He nodded, climbing aboard the Alexi Express, clinging to him. As they began to run away from the place, Xander closed his eyes. "I'm going to make us invisible... by bending the light around us, no one will be able to see us." Because a pair of boys in hospital garb running through the streets of San Francisco would definitely stand out... even if it was San Fran.

He focused, the two of them changing colors for just a moment before they were completely invisible, and only a blur in the air. He panted, making sure he kept up their disguise. The van sped by them and kept on going towards the alley where the two boys had been.

"Where are we going?" Xander asked Alexi, his grip on him tightening and his frail and horridly fragile body pressed against him. It was cold and trembled slightly. The hands that held onto Alexi were as cold as ice.
