Ai fumbled with her own hoverboard. "I thought we were off the grid. These won't work, right?"

"They will in a bit. just run and jump on them theyll skid along then catch the underground metal, in the Dark Woods." she grinned at Ai.

Ai did as she was told and grinned back at Sami. "Is it just me or are you speaking from experience here? I did all the usual Ugly tricks, but I never went this far out with a hoverboard."

"out of experience" was all Sami said before she zoomed of and was soon entering the Dark Woods.

The woods, true to their name, were indeed dark, and it was difficult to see far in any direction, but Ai followed Sami's brightly coloured hair easily.
"Do you know what's out here? Or are we just exploring?"

"Well i know as far as the big oak we just passed." Sami shouted as they passed a huuuge oak, "Now i am lost. lets just be careful tht we dont fall we have to follow the metal on the floor."

Ai nodded. "K. What do you think we'll find?" she asked with excitement.

"I inspected the Big Oak the other day and there was something carved in it, it said something like... mind rain or sumtin... i dunno" Sami turned her hoverboard sharply to avoid falling.

"Mind rain? Isn't that that thing where we used to have cuts in our brains and they were removed?" asked Ai, trying what she had learned as an ugly.

"Urgh.. cuts in our brains? i dunno... to be honest i never attended classes. its a surprise they even turned me pretty." Sami said.

"Yeah, see the Specials put cuts in our brains to make us stupid, but then a group of people began giving out pills to get rid of them, and that was the Mind Rain," said Ai. "Since the Mind Rain, none of us have the brain cuts. but that was years ago. I wonder why someone carved that into a tree. If they wanted to send out a message, why not just put it on the feeds?"

Sami grunted, "Maybe they didnt have feeds back then? or maybe it was the rustics or watever they are called."

"The Rusties?" Ai scratched her head trying to remember history lessons. "The midn rain was after Rusty time wasn't it? Or maybe... no, that's not possible."

"maybe there were still some rusties, living a rough life... im not sure... anyway there's two paths which way?" sami nodded towards a rough left path and a smooth right path.

"Well if we're looking for rough Rusties, let's take the left path," said Ai. She wondered if there really were people out there, living a Rusty way of life. What was it like?

"Ok... i was thinking that too." she swiftly turned her hoverboard to the left path and sped up only to slow down again as the path was very dangerous.

"I can't believe there's this much metal underground," said Ai, awed. "What do you think we'll find? Barbaric Rusties, maybe?"

"im not sure whats out here, but we're about to find out." Sami pointed to a big clearing further ahead.

Ai came to a complete stop as soon as she entered the clearing, stunned and awed at the sight...

Sami tripped on her board when she saw what was a ahead.
something like grey air was spreading over the clearing it came from one single pit thing... Fire. and there were bowls made of rough material and strange clothers everywhere.
"What is this place." Sami whispered.

"It's dangerous to have a fire here with nothing to keep it under control! It could spread anywhere!" gasped Ai, gazing at the huge flaming mound with horror.

"Well lets put it out then." Sami nodded over at the fire and zoomed over on her hoverboard only to fall in a heap as there was no more metal.

Ai had taken off right the instant Sami did, so she also landed in a heap as she fell off her hoverboard.
She was about to get up when something prodded her in the side, hard. Wincing, she looked up into a pair of pale, pale eyes, boring into hers.
