neither option is bad. I depends on the person and the artist. I prefur manga over still life because I find still life rather boring.

I think both are great. Drawing pretty manga boys is fun, but at the same time I feel so great when I draw something and it actually looks like the real thing I was drawing.

It's really a matter of preference though. I think realism is much more of a challenge, and manga is more creative.

There are also a ton more art styles to choose from to.

I think the drawing style that you identify and feel comfortable with the most yourself is the best. I think too many people try to fit into a popular type of drawing style even if it's something they aren't comfortable drawing.. A drawing style should be like a voice, it should be unique to the person you are.

I am a person who started off drawing Manga style and am now doing a lot of realism and I think they both have their points.

If one is inclined to go to a professional art school I would suggest realism or at least some sort of established abstract because a lot of schools (though less and less and it grows in popularity) frown upon Manga.

Though as someone who can handle themselves at realism, but is still modest at manga and who has friends who can draw amazing manga there is definitly some jealousy there.

The BEST style is up to you not other people, after all its a matter of opinion. People like anime good for them. People like realism good for them as well. However you should not let others decided on whats best for you. Draw how YOU are comfortable not how others think you should draw, otherwise art will only bring you unhappiness. Its about freedom and expression if you are confining yourself to other's views you are doing neither of those.

The best art style? I would have to say a style that grows with you and you have fun drawing is a great style, pretty much a comfortable style. :)

I can't really say that one is "better"... However, it really depends on who the artist is. I, personally, have a bit of experience with both. I think that manga/anime style is fun, because you get lots of room for creativity. Realistic art always looks nice if you're decent at it.

I guess if you're trying to figure out which one to main when drawing, you should probably try your hand at both. Whichever one you feel most comfortable with, you should do.

Hope that helps!

Any! I love realism, manga and anything in between. I love unique/different styles. I don't think I've ever drawn one style completely. I always put something of my own into it.

Best? Well it depends, which one do you like better and which one is easier for you to draw? :)

I knew this would be "anime vs other" discussion D: Makes me frustrated!
If we talk about doodling and drawing humans or creatures who look like humans, my favourite style is the one that my friend uses! i don't know how to call it, really it's her own thing she has developed.
But if we take it professional im gonna say POP ART. Is it manga? Is it realism? Fuck labels. I also like surrealism. Is that manga? I know it sure isn't realism!
There's as many styles as there is people drawing things. Seriously guys.
I'm so angry now XDD sorry

There is no best. People have differing preferences. That said there is a difference between hobbyist quality and professional quality work in all styles.

Neither is better than the other, as most have already stated. I do like when the two styles are combined well. I can't really draw in either style, my style is something else completely.

There is no best when it comes to a preference.
Personally I am not into manga I prefer to draw still life from my favorite movies or tv shows or animals. I have some examples in my deviantart in my sig. I am a horrid drawer but I am striving to change that. My late father was once great at it and I want to be as well.

I have to say realism because there is such skill and detail in that style. I also so that because it is that one that I fail the most at and wish to do much better with. Manga is wonderful and absolutely beautiful for those who can truly pull it off, but the more that it approaches realism, the more that I like it. So, in the end, realism is my favorite.

There are tons of different styles in between. Realism doesen't limit itself to just one style and nor does manga, like many of the replies here have already stated. Personally I like all styles that are unique and beautiful...but I am a little sceptical about anime art since it's often very unoriginal. If we are going to put labels on things I'd say I prefer realism. It's harder and more detailed.

I don't think there is a definitive 'best' style, and there are a lot more styles than those two...Come to think of it, there are a lot more just in those categories! :XD Personal preference wise, I'm on the fence. I used to be really into manga, now I find I'm leaning towards more realistic artwork, it's really a period of artistic turmoil for me!

Just as everyone else has said, there is no "best" style. Just do what feels best for you. I have a general style that I stick with, but I'm continually changing it up here n there. I can never be satisfied... =v=

I don't think either is the best but I personally prefer Manga style. I think it's really fun drawing a manga character but I like the way it feels to draw something realistic and have it look the way you want. Even though I don't draw realistically, I'm sure the satisfaction would be fine with me. :]

I've seen beautiful realistic drawings as well as beautiful manga. I've also seen really bad art.

Personally I prefer art that it's clear that the artist spent time on. And didn't just slap it together in about five minutes and say they're done (Even though I'm guilty of those too).
