Anyone who thinks this whole "end of the world" is real is a total retard. Of course it's not! All the point proving that have already been said, so I won't yabber on about that right now.
I'll be sitting in my new house watching TV or being on the computer talking to old/new friends. I'm moving that summer to Ontario and I'm damn well pleased about it. No "horrible 2012" is going to wreck my life there.
I'll wait all the way up to midnight of the 22nd, and when nothing happens I'll put my facebook status to, "You see? It was all a hoax. And those of you who believed it are looking mighty stupid right about now :]"

I don't really believe anything awful is going to happen. Sounds like a load of crap. I know they've had tons of specials on the Discovery and the History channel but they have always LOVED to run those doomsayer and disaster sort of shows.
Regarding the stuff about the Mayan calendar, I don't think it's anything significant. I figure the mayans just got lazy or too busy and stopped. They were an interesting culture but I don't think they were superhuman or spiritually advanced and I don't believe future-predicting based on the stars is accurate beyond the occasional coincedence. I don't know who started the whole 2012 rumor but it's getting pretty damn annoying.
Sure, it would be interesting if 'Th3 st4rs l1ne up!111!' but I don't think that really means anything. Maybe some aliens will come or something. That'd be neat (or possibly, terrible) but I just don't think it's going to happen.

In my opinion, I think something will happen in 2012... End of the world? No. XD Maybe something bad will happen or maybe something good will happen. None of us know for sure but I guess it is fun to ponder it. I am Christian so I guess its fun to think that it will be the next coming of Christ but... I don't know. We will have to see what happens!

I don't know about you guys, but winter here has gotten worst over the years.
Global warming is not a problem here, we've gotten well over 50 inches of snow.

*puts on her Anthropology/Archealogy hat*
The end of the Mayan calendar is just like the end of ours. It just starts over again the next day. The Mayans actually had 3 calendars: The Tzolk'in (260 days long), the Haab (eighteen months, 20 days and 5 nameless days (sorta like leap year but all at once) total 365 days) and then the long count calendar. The Tzolk'in and Haab lined up every 52 years, and all three line up in Dec 2012. It doesn't really mean much other than that. Well, the Mayans thought it would be a new phase of man kind. They thought they were made of corn (hence human sacrifices in order to feed the gods), and the previous three phases had been made of rock, wood, and mud. They had all been distroyed by the gods, because basically they screwed up and didn't make them right.
They didn't continue the calendar because the last calendar was made right before the begining of the fall of the Maya. When you are trying to find food to survive you don't worry about making sure the calendar is up to date, especially when you have over 500 years to catch up on it.
So yeah, nothing will happen. The sun will rise and the world will carry on.

wellllll, if the world ever ends in 2012, it would be mankind's own fault for all the environment harming and stuff. I heard that it's, like, a race between Global Warming and the Ice Age that's supposed to come up in the near future.

I think nothing will happen. Well nothing NATURE-wise
I think the rate of crimes will increase, even by just a little bit.
Because some people might think "Oh, why not? I'll die in a few days anyway."
I've heard people who want to know when the best time is to kill their children. Because they don't wanna put them through the end of the world right?
It makes me so mad.

Doomsday theories are plain silly. First of all, relying on an ancient Mayan calendar for prophetic answers is illogical and based purely on superstition. Second, the 2012 "theory" is based on a misinterpretation of the Mayan calendar. Modern-day Mayans still use the Mayan calendar and they do not believe for a second that the end of the world is coming in 2012. No one knows when or even IF humans will cease to exist, and anyone claiming otherwise is just guessing without any convincing evidence to show for it. So sit back and relax, we still have our lives ahead of us ;)

I'd like to say- for most of the people mentioning Y2K- It /could/ have been a disaster.
The reasoning that Y2K was such a big deal was that at that point all the computers read the year by the last two digits. '88, '89 and so forth. So as you can imagine, the 'logic' that computers have would not have been exactly happy reading '99- and then '00.
After all, year zero doesn't exist.
It could have been a huge problem- but thankfully due to the panic a lot of computer programmers saved our butts by going in and changing /all/ of the old code to include all four digits of the year. Thus it read 2000 instead of '00.
The computers were happier with this- as it makes sense- and we didn't experience any ill effects of the year. Leading a vast amount of the populace to believe that the entire thing was a hoax.
Which it wasn't. Its due to the computer programmer's hard work that we still had (/have?) everything working in fine order.
That being said- I'm not really certain about 2012 myself. Personally I give kudos to the Mayans for making a calendar that went thousands of years into their future. I'm amazed they made it last this long- and not surprised that they finally ended it.
My christian friend doesn't believe in 2012 at all- apparently theres something in the bible about no one knowing when the Apocalypse will be. Since so many people are being "o.o omg 2012!!" She's happy to think that 2012 is the only year that she can be sure that the Apocalypse /wont/ happen. XD
But me myself? I'm not sure- so I can definably think of a few things that I'd /really/ like to do before then ^^;

Nothing is going to happen. I'll probably do everyday activities all day long, and at night maybe get drunk. Or maybe not since I don't like drinking to get drunk often.
When the next day rolls around the sun will shine down on all of us (hopefully), as a kind of in your face to all those who actually believed in the whole 2012 doomsday theory. Then all the believers will laugh at themselves, and the world will continue existing as it always did.

Well, at least it makes people aware of the climate changes to come if certain measures aren't taken to preserve the planet.
Personally, I don't think anything catastrophic will occur.
It will be just another normal day.

I have to say I think nothing will happen, Seeing how our calculations are the same as the Mayans I am a little amazed but I think we will all be alive in 2012. We'll just see for our selves what the future has in store for us.:)

Just because the calandars end, it doesn't mean that anything is going to happen. It could simply be that thay couldn't extrapolate the dates any further, or that they didn't bother for some reason or other. I'm pretty sure that in December of 2012, I'll still be alive, and still suffering through college (Unless I go to the CaHCoC, of course).

lmao, if anythings going end the world in 2012, its Sara Palin becoming president of the United States. I really dont think anythings huge is going to happen. But I think global warming will get worse, and as that goes on it will be more of a struggle for survival. And if anyone doesnt believe in global warming at this point should probably open there eyes. Its here and there's really not much we can do about it.
