Well, on TLC right now is the last six months.

Of Shiloh Pepin's life. The only surviving (well not anymore I guess) person with mermaid syndrome ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirenomelia ) that didn't have their legs separated. She died in October.

I just wondered:
How many of you actually know who I'm talking about
Do you think she made a good/bad decision on not getting her legs separated?
What would you have done in her position?
What do you know/think about mermaid syndrome in general?

I started crying during the TLC special (and looking at her facebook page)

She was strong even though her life, compared to (most of) ours, sucked hairy monkey balls.

Anyway, what do you think about all of this?

(And yes I know I cry too easily.)
I think I'm gonna cry again now that they're showing clips of the funeral.

Well she could have extended her life span if she had done the surgery, but then she wouldn't be the person she is if she had done the surgery.

I would of had the surgery, but then again it depends if there were big risks and what not.

Well I first heard of Mermaid Syndrome when I was thirteen or fourteen years old. It was about that case in Florida. I think she is twenty-one years old now. Mermaid syndrome is unfortunate, but it happens just like everything else. The surgery for that must be hard and a rough thing to deal with. Maybe that is why they they to have it done when the kid is a year old or under.

Shiloh was a brave and wonderful girl. It is sad that she died at a young age. :( At least she had a wonderful life. :)

I found out about Shiloh Pepin when my FH told me to Google "real mermaids" (I think he wanted me to see that freaky-ass picture of the old withered man that was apparently a "mermaid"--look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about). Her life sucked, dude, but she was so strong. =( It made me sad, too.
