Drake followed her and smiled at her catching the cheesy pun he had made. "Glad you liked that little pun."

"I'm surprised I caught it, frankly. I'm pretty...bad with that stuff." She decided to use simple terms instead of trying to make her speech seem fancy, which was difficult for her anyway. "It's nice when you manage to catch a joke someone throws at you once in a while, y'know?"

"Yup, I get what you mean." He said nodding. "Most times I don't catch them either." He laughed lightly and thought about one time he didn't and had to get it explained to him. "One time someone had to explain this joke to me, 'when you open a can of whoop arse chuck norris jumps out.' I had no idea who chuck norris was, so the joke in general confused me." he laughed.

"I don't get it either, personally," Chloe laughed nervously, completely lost by what was supposed to be humor, instead finding it to be similar to a school question that she hadn't learned. "Sorry. don't get it myself at all."

"It's just suppose to be that he's a tough guy or something, I'm still not even sure what it means entirely." He smiled, "Sorry I attempted at a second joke."

"It's okay. It'd make sense if I weren't so dense, I bet!" She laughed a bit, smiling easily to him. Recognizing it, however, she felt her cheeks grow a slightly red hue, causing her to stare at her lap as she continued to wheel herself.

"You're not dense." he put his hand on her shoulder, "it was a stupid joke." he laughed lightly then noticed her stare into her lap, "what's wrong?" He stepped in front of her chair and put his hand under her chin to tilt her face to look at him.

Her hands moved to wave in front of her, a feeble attempt at hiding the red in her face. "I-It's nothing! Nothing!" However, she couldn't keep up the act for long, causing her to put her hands down in her lap again. "It's just... I don't remember the last time I was able to really relax around, well, anyone, like I feel I am right now..."

"There's nothing bad about being relaxed." Drake smiled at her, "No need to be shy about it."

"But I never relaxed around, well, anyone before really. I'm barely really relaxed around Janny half the time, and she's my little girl..." She stared at her lap again soon enough. "To be honest... I-I've always been afraid of getting too relaxed around others... I was always afraid that if I let the wall break... Then the bad stuff that came in the past would come again..."

She tried to stop there, shaking her head and smiling to him. "Ah well, that's not important right now! Let's keep going, 'kay?" She had to try to put on her strong act, she'd decided- it was what she felt was right, even if it wasn't truly so.

"I won't anything bad from the past come and get you, I'll protect you, no matter what it is, I won't let it get to you or Janice."He said this strong and sure of himself, he didn't want to let anything or anyone harm Chloe or Janice, he liked them too much to let anything negative get to them.
Drake wanted to know more about what Chloe was talking about, but realized she didn't want to talk about it. He reached out to take her hand and continue walking to her room.

Her face deepened in color even more, and she couldn't help but wonder if that was even possible anymore. Still, she had to fight it. Looking up at him, she let out a small bit of the information. "Drake... Do you get along with your mother? What's it like?"

Drake looked at her with care in his eyes for Chloe, "Yea, I do get along with my mother, quite well, we have our disagreements, but no one gets along perfectly. I go to her if I have a problem I can't solve, or I need advice on anything." He wanted to ask her the question in return, but it didn't seem like it would be a good idea so instead he asked, "How do you and Janice get along?"

Chloe smiled weakly to him, seemingly not finding the question all that simple. "I don't really know to be honest... I don't know how a normal mother and child are supposed to get along, and even then, we aren't really normal. But... Janny's always worried about me... I feel horrible when she claims she's fine, when I can see her looking like she's about to cry..."

"It's natural for her to worry about you, and you to worry about her, you just have to be more of an authority figure to her." Drake said nodding, not really sure what he should say to her. He bit his lip and thought for a moment, "When she's about to cry, comfort her, that's the best thing to do."

"I try to do that, but..." Chloe looked at him simply. "She's always trying to pretend it's not the case, and most of the time it's because of me that she's even crying." She stared at her lap. "I don't really know how to be a mother conventionally... My mother was sickly, so I basically took care of her instead of the usual way around. That's why I clung to Janny so quickly. It was because I could relate... And after Mama died, I needed someone to take care of..."

"Oh, I'm sorry." Drake frowned and stopped in front of Chloe going down on his knees so he could speak face to face with her, "You mean you're not Janice's mom, by birth? and you need someone to care for you?" He paused and put his hand on her knee, no sexual meaning in the gesture, only genuine care, "I'll take care of you and Janice." He looked into her eyes showing sincerity.

She laughed slightly, waving her hands in front of her. "I think you didn't hear my correctly. I need someone to take care of, not to take care of me." She smiled simply to him. "It's true that Janice isn't my daughter by blood... I've never had children, nor have I met the requirements to do so anyway. But... It sorta just clicked the day I had her come over for a bite to eat. It was just after Mama-" She cut herself off. She decided she'd already revealed too much. "A-Anyway, enough about that stuff! I'm actually starting to get hungry. The kitchen's nearby, right? Let's have a snack!"

Drake laughed nervously and spoke carefully, "The kitchen is back down the elevator and straight, if you want, sure let's go get some snacks." He smiled, confused slightly and started walking towards the elevator.

Chloe watched him for a moment, thinking, then tugged on his hand before he got to far. "Hold on a minute. I have a question for you." She smiled simply, though strangely serious in her eyes. "Is there a reason you're so nice to us? Even when you didn't know our names, you were already trying to help us so willingly...But... It seems like your wanting to help has only grown, so I'm curious as to why you care so much already."

Drake stopped when his hand was grabbed, "I wanted to help originally because you are beautiful and you were in distress, it was natural for me to want to help you," he paused thinking for a moment, "Now I want to care for you more because you've grown on me, I have a bit of a crush on you...." Drake's sentence faded as it reached the end and he blushed.

Her face turned red- for once in her life, hearing the last part of the sentence didn't make her feel scared at all. She was confused, yes, but that was natural for the oblivious girl she was. However, for her not to start to show signs of fear from being told someone had interest in her? Well, that was not known to man as possible until then. "Why me though...?"

"I don't know why you, I just like you, I find you attractive, I'm not sure..." He laughed a little, "I find your daughter adorable and I thought maybe you liked me too." He smiled and turned away almost positive she doesn't feel the same.

She giggled a bit, smiling. "What does it mean then? 'Cause, strangely enough... I'm not afraid to admit I feel similarly." She tugged on his hand lightly to try to get him to look at her again. "After Mama died, I was too afraid to get close to people, but somehow I'm not as scared when it comes to you."

Drake smiled when she spoke, he turned around to face her again, "I don't know what it means, but I like the feeling." He came down to her level and cupped her face in his hand,"I'm glad you feel that way."
