Apparently it's called a pipe symbol. I'd forgotten how to do a straight line so I was trying the wrong key (the one above Tab in this picture). Then me and my friend were curious as how to actually use it. I typed a vague search term into Google and somehow got the answer. You need to hold Alt Gr. ¦
