I was catholic all my life. I never noticed or experienced this guilt thing.

I was raised in a non-churchgoing household. My dad is a non-practicing Catholic and my mom is a cynical... Episcopalian, I think.

Neither of my parents were ever "practicing" by any means. :P Hell, we were looked at as a lost cause by the Catholic church, because my parents were unwed with three kids! Believe me, we've had our fair share of scorn, glares of disapproval, and downright nastiness.

I've never understood the concept of marriage. It's always seemed like a pathetic excuse to express your love, in my opinion. And if my parents had married, well... That would've been a mess of a situation!

Divorce happens too much for me to believe marriage is worth the price tag, let alone the rushed nature of most weddings. If I were ever to get married, I'd make sure I'd endured at least a decade and a half of unmarried life with the person. :roll:

Ahh, marriage. Now that, they do need to separate in truth into secular and religious/ceremonial. One institution has far too much influence on the other.

Common law marriage involves an exchange of words like, "I am your husband," and, "I am your wife." No such thing went down between my parents, especially since they're not together anymore. And haven't been for quite some time. :P
