Pennsylvania: A common-law marriage was established if, before 1/1/2005, a man and woman exchanged words that indicated that they intended to be married at the present time and they also held themselves out to the community as married (introducing eachother as husband and wife, filing joint taxes, etc.).
Quote:
Texas: A man and woman who want to establish a common-law marriage must sign a form provided by the county clerk. In addition, they must (1) agree to be married, (2) cohabit, and (3) represent to others that they are married.
And yes, I'd much rather finalize my relationship on my own terms. Especially considering I can't get married anywhere I want to at this point in time. :talk2hand:

----------

Woops, forgot to say that there's some differences between each state's definition of common-law marriage. Which is why I wasn't sure. :P

The way understand common law marriage is that if you live together in the same household for 6 years as a husband and a wife would then you are legally married in the eyes of the law.

and there we have it facade our states look at it differently.... i swear i read somehwere aobut 6 years though....don't remember where though

THE MYTH: There is a common misperception that if you live together for a certain length of time (seven years is what many people believe), you are common-law married. This is not true anywhere in the United States.
That's not true anywhere, Wings. :|

OH! And I lied, common-law marriage is no longer recognized in PA. :P
It was for relationships prior to January 1st, 2005 though, which would include my parents.

Eh, I figure, if I don't get married, I am damn well throwing myself an amazing bash that my wedding would have been like. Complete with outdoor dancing platform, live fiddling & tin whistling, amazing candles hung from every tree.

LOL!
My aunt has the SAME mentality! She's 34, and she's going to throw herself a huge 38th birthday bash, complete with registering for gifts at stores... Just because! :P
She never sees herself married, and has pretty much given up on the dating scene. :ninja:

I have a huge life plan. I want to get married to the right guy and have four kids hopefully 2 girls and 2 boys. I even have names though those are subject to change (Jason Michael, Justin Christopher, Amber Rose, and Isabelle Dawn (nickame Izzy)). I think i'm a bit of a freak for thinking like this though

It's a good mentality sometimes. I mean, I am the kinda person who has like, a couple of wedding variations planned out already. And, I am not going to waste some perfectly good Me celebrating!!! lol

You just have to love what cha get, even if it's yourself.
